Lots of cope in the office today regarding turnout. Suddenly FPTP is the worst thing in history as well. Funny that.
Got to be honest I'm quietly revelling in the fume.

Just to bring this thread full circle to page 1, we did indeed fuck the fucking Tories into the fucking sun.
Can we temporarily change the thread title to ‘Sunsetting the Conservative Party’ please mods

Getting the new cabinet in is being run like a military operation. They’re flying up Downing Street

My election story.I went and voted at lunchtime. In the evening, wife and sons went to vote. One of the sons is told he's already voted... but I hadn't. So after some deliberation between the two people, one of whom remembers me voting, they decided to give him my ballot paper.
Voter Id working great 👍

None of my friends are full Higgy but the overwhelming number of political posts being shared by the ones who share political stuff today are essentially “the resistance starts here”. Like, lets see whats on the table first maybe? they sound "full higgy"
Sadly they will never listen to anything Labour says even if the party undoes a lot of the damage the tories did. They want to die on that hill like that Owen Jones
“the resistance starts here”. twats
My general view is that if Labour move the dial even 10% on social care or the NHS or schools or early years or unemployment then that is the lives of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, materially improved at a stroke. As much as I might wish the dial might go 50-100% I can’t deny that benefit.

Don't think there's any surprises but Starmer is building a really strong cabinet. Going to be great having people who actually have knowledge of their brief in the posts. And they're not going to be switched around every 5 minutes.

Feels like a parallel universe watching these cabinet appointments roll in after some of the staggering reshuffles we've had to witness over recent years.

Don't deny that even a slight improvement in health or social care will be something, but from everybody I've talked to in that sector the usual response "what, exactly?"
Everything Streeting has mooted as a proposal is something that already is happening or has been tried.
Both social and health care are dependent on funding and staff. Fiscal rules limit the former, immigration the latter.
Not to piss on anybody's chips here, but I really struggle to get buy in to them achieving much here.

The answer is investing in prevention and seeing the benefits in 5-10 years...

And they're not going to be switched around every 5 minutes. Getting to have a kind of continuity in the environment/energy brief in Ed Milliband is pretty damn useful, I think. Considering that people say it can take 18 months to fully understand how to run a government department.

Love that Lammy is foreign secretary, someone we can send somewhere and know he won't look like a complete tit. To be fair Cameron was a step up over some of the recent attempts as well.

Lettuce Lady claiming that the Tories were hamstrung by the situation they'd inherited from New Labour, including the Human Rights Act, perfectly embodies why it's so great that we're rid of 'em at last.
Enjoy obscurity, Liz! You sure as hell earned it.

Lammy is very switched on, his months of ground work got Starmer the D Day invite Totally. This work alone has probably escalated his power in government massively. A real stroke of genius. Kind of funny seeing the reporting of this being surprised about all the formerly Shadow cabinet members being shifted over to the same brief in the government cabinet. After years of insane reshuffles, everyone is shocked when people who have actually already been working in the field are appointed. Media is going to be even more surprised in a year's time when all of these posts are still occupied by the same people.

minimatt. I'm on the blue side so don't fancy my chances much. New MP is at least an islander, with a family here eyc so hopefully he'll try and do something. Which is more than Bob Seldom Seen Seeley did.

Nah, shuffle it around every few months so that nobody has a chance to settle or make a meaningful impact is clearly the best way to do it!

Tbf we did have a decent amount of stability at junior level. Which is almost more important. No idea if they're trying to do the same there though.

A cabinet based on ability rather than as a way to stop them going against you is nice.
We've got the Federation instead of the Klingon Empire as a government.

Let’s not forget that many Tory appointees had to leave their post because they broke the rules.

I'm disappointed by the lack of ex-tabloid journalists parachuted into jobs they are wholly unqualified for. WTF is this? Where are the jobs for school mates?
This isn't how you run a government!
