3 votes to go at for us. GM mayor, Salford Mayor and a local councillor all of who promise to do xyz in a different order and then do none of them because of cuts.

Same here. All of them have the same policy of reduce crime, and more police which I'm pretty none of them actually have the power to achieve that as they get the budget they're given. It's such a pointless non-position that having an election for just wastes time and resources. You actually know their policies? Don't think there has been any literature sent out around my way about any of them. First time I see their names will be when stepping into the voting booth (if I do). Well, all of their fliers have "MORE POLICE, LESS CRIME" in large writing so I can see it as I come downstairs to pick it up from the doormat and put it in the bin. I don't bother going much further than that but that was enough to know what they stood for and that they all have the same solution.

It'd be worth running for commissioner under a "MORE CRIME, LESS POLICE" banner, just to see if anyone notices.
I'd also include a promise to install a Batphone.

I had to google the candidates in my ward (which also covers Hampshire for the PCC). Only 2 (Labour and LDs) responded to the BBC request to interview. So one of them I guess. Hilariously, one of the parties standing is the Justice and Anti-corruption party. Which, without looking, I presume is an old man (likely racist) shouting at clouds party.

Council and PCC for me, my local polling station has been bouncing around for a while, it was a local primary school for decades, pandemic shifted it to a Portakabin in the nearby lido car park and this time around I'll be visiting the town's cricket club instead.
It'll be the first time voting without my polling card as that seems to have disappeared, I know you don't need it but I've always taken it with me.

Oh, BBC actually have statements from all 4 of ours. The independent doesn't believe that 75% of women and girls feel safe at night (doesn't say if he thinks the number is lower or higher) and that he knows "how to get things done". The Lib Dem is running to get the role and try and scrap it (seems the best approach, to be honest).

In Hampshire & IoW two of the candidates (LibDem and an independent) are both campaigning on getting PCCs scrapped, I imagine that the Tories may well win again because the current one has been so successful. /s

As far as I can see, all the job entails is line managing the chief constable. It seems like the ultimate Tory vanity post.

PCC and councillors for me. Honestly have no idea how the PCC candidates differ. I'll probably just vote by team colour.
I'm in a very safe labour councillor seat, and I'm fine with that. Does make the voting feel like like a literal tick box exercise.

yeah PCC is the one I've always spoiled in the past as it just added a pointless extra layer of expense with no benefit, but as our current Tory one spent his time, salary & office expenses wanging on about how electric police cars are woke I think I'll have to add to the electoral kicking

Police and Crime Commissioner is such a stupid name for it, do they commission the police and the crime? I can only think they added the crime bit so people weren't constantly comparing them to the American ones and making jokes about when is the commissioner going to light the Bat-Signal.

I have to admit I would've been swayed if one of the candidates was called Gordon.

I have to hold my nose and vote for the Lib Dems as they won by less than 100 votes last time so whilst it is predicted not to be close this time, I best not risk it and vote Labour. It stinks though as I can't forgive them for teaming up with the Conservatives when I had to tactically vote for them that one time.
Also have to vote for the GM Mayor but that is a foregone conclusion anyway.

Went to the poling station an hour ago. Looks like hardly anyone had been yet - the chap took a while to find me as he flicked through all the pages, and there were only a few names crossed out on each page. Perhaps most will vote after work, but normally expect to see more people having been at that time of day.

'He added that, if elected, he would offer the 34-year-old Forbes a “significant” job in government, describing her as “intelligent, creative and thoughtful”.'
(from the FT)
Not even being subtle about it. She was bought off.

Oh, of course she was.
I'd rather see her bought off with a cushy role than in the top job, though.
I felt the same way about Braverman, back when she was able to play kingmaker between Johnson and Sunak - not having them around at all would be ideal, but sadly that isn't an option.

Thing with that tho it's not the individual politician that's the problem, it the support base that allowed them to get to that far in the first place. She got 48% of the vote when she ran last. She represents a significant chunk of her party.
Bit like Trump in the US. The real problem is not the existence of Trump per se. You're always going to get unstable amoral arseholes like him. The problem is the sheer number of people who look at him and go "yup, that's what I want." He could fall down dead tomorrow, and all those people with those votes aren't going anywhere.

Isn't that a bit unfair? Admittedly, I don't really give a shit about Scotland but wasn't her problem that she was just a bit keen on Jesus rather than being as manifestly unfit for office as the average Tory?

I don't follow Scottish politics that closely either, but I did get the feel that the progressive members of the party had a bigger problem with her than just her religion. She was quite critical of the SNP's own gender reforms iirc.
TBH I'd be keen to see her run for leader, as I think its bad for parties' legitimacy to get a leader by way of coronation (hi Sunak!). Plus, you know: drama!

I'm not saying she's like Trump in her political views, by the way. I'm pointing out that she exists at that level in the party because she represents something within the party. The more progressive SNP voters and members seem to like to make out they're the only game in town, I feel.

Went with Rob Blackie for Mayoral vote, not particularly inspired by the last 8 years with Sadiq and Susan Hall has a touch of Boris about her. Likely a wasted vote in what looks to be a one horse race.
The rest where spread accross various parties even a Conservative candidate but he has been very good at at addressing local issues, fighting for green spaces and local art centre etc.

She also didn't believe in same sex marriage and only supported abortions in very limited situations. Being a fan of Jesus isn't really an issue, but she clearly followed out dated doctrine when it came to social issues and those would inevitably colour the policies she would be putting forward. I don't know the details, but her Wikipedia page also says she was quite fiscally conservative too.
