Kate Forbes seemed to be reasonably competent as finance minister, although you never know what stories are lurking behind the party line there, but her religious views are most definitely a bit out there and would absolutely be a step back for a party that has been labelling itself as progressive.

This is quite a spectacular implosion. It’s also nice to see a minority coalition partner not just turn into happy-to-be-there boot lickers. It's exactly what the Lib Dems should have done when they were in coalition. They were so desperate to have "power" for the first time that they completely ignored the actual power they had - which was to end the Tory government at the time if they were doing something they didn't like. Instead they just let themselves be the whipping boys in exchange for Clegg getting to call himself deputy PM.

It is worrying yes, but it's all very cyclical and I would say that eventually a lot of these populist parties get found out eventually, if not for being unable to solve these incredibly complex issues but for being massively corrupt and enriching themselves at the expense of the public. That's why I get concerned when politics and complex issues get reduced to a twitter post or when people state proudly that they won't vote because change isn't immediate or all the parties are the same and then act shocked when personal liberties are stripped over time.

Yeah but all it takes is one psycho in charge of one large country with a large army and...
You could argue that's already happened.

Oh for sure, it feels like it's no coincidence that the fringe parties in France and Germany and Spain who are gaining more ground keep going on about leaving the EU and being separate nations. I can't even imagine where their talking points, and more importantly funding, is coming from. Can't imagine at all.

Spectacular unforced error. SNP spat their dummy out because they didn't want to compromise on green policies. They'll have to make exponentially more compromises if they want to be part of the next government.

What a fantastic bit of timing. I can just picture the absolute carnage tomorrow if when local elections don't go in favour of the Tories.
Knives out for Sunak.

Hopefully Yousaf is the only UK Muslim leader of a sizeable population that loses his position this week.

Lets hope the people of scotland get to pick someone as first minister soon rather than some unelected twat again (has not been great for the rest of the UK)
Maybe Hamza Yousef can take a holiday in nicola sturgeon's motorhome?

I think you'll find that was bought on purely SNP party business-based purposes. It was only resting on Nicola's ma's driveway.

Lets hope the people of scotland get to pick someone as first minister soon rather than some unelected twat again It’s funny, I’ve never really had a problem ‘we elect the party, not a president’ when it comes to PMs and whatnot but that has been sorely tested these last few years.

Yes I'm fine with the principle as long as the people who do choose the PM aren't Conservative party members.

We really should just let the conservative members decide everything imo.

I think it's the problem that the party has changed a lot every time the leader has changed, and it's never gone back to the polls to see if they're wanted. I've no issue with caretaker PMs but if the election is less than a year away but an election should then happen as soon as possible and sensible.

Yes I'm fine with the principle as long as the people who do choose the PM aren't Conservative party members. This is the crux of the problem. Regardless of various people's takes on "party democracy", it's not gone well lately. Letting the MPs decide at least makes logical sense of the actual system we have. Normal people elect MPs (picked by their local party), those MPs have some mandate for picking leaders/PMs. That's actually derived from voters not internal factionalism. It bouncing out to the membership for any party has worked poorly of late. Jo Swinson, Corbyn, Truss, Yousaf.... none of them have actually gone that well, or been able to manage their own parties reliably. Though Swinson there was barely any party left to govern at that point.
