Not quite, I think he was the one to pull out of the power sharing agreement. That sounds...worse tho? Why would he willingly do that? The Greens were intending to have a vote about whether to continue with the agreement (which was looking unlikely though not a full gone conclusion) and rather than waiting, he's seen the inevitable headlines of being beholden to them and dumped them before they could dump him is it were. Which is a fuckup in my opinion as it's played into the hands of the unionists and pandered to the right of the SNP/indy movement who either saw them as a distraction or opposed their policies with trans rights being the big one. My hope is that someone somewhere within the Greens has realised that if they vote with the tories then they will become unelectable and the worst they could do is abstain. If not then Humza is reliant on Ash Reagan who is a puppet for Alex Salmond and jumped ship from the SNP to his Alba party (think a more deranged mix of UKIP/Reform) which is far more damaging and could send the country backwards. Incidentally Kate Forbes (who ran in the leadership contest last time) name has cropped up again as his successor and is most notable for saying because of her religious beliefs she would have voted against repelling Section 28. So that is where we're at now and I'm not sure how exactly we got here.

The SNP just SNPing it. They've always contained these people, Alex Salmond was literally the leader and they spent decades known as the Tartan Tories. The Social Democrat set-dressing was always covering up the big divides inside them, losing the 2014 referendum and The Tories being clearly on the way out in England and it was always going to run out of energy and political capital.
Much like the various Brexit factions inside the Tories, they're not actually united by anything and were always bound to descend into bickering about low-tax, low-regulation vs Red Wall tories vs whatever the fuck Miriam Kates is.

Conservative majority has just dropped again, so that's two in a short period of time. This time around it's not someone resigning in disgrace but a former health minister just sick of the Tories (I know that feeling), he won't be standing at the next election so he's not causing any issues on that front for Starmer.
Dr Dan Poulter, the MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, who works part-time as a mental health doctor in an NHS hospital, announced he was resigning as a Tory MP and would be taking the Labour whip until the next election in an exclusive interview with the Observer.

Someone remind me how I’m supposed to vote for a party that just welcomes Tory MPs with open arms again?

He's going to be taking the whip for a matter of months at most and has thrown a hand grenade at his former party.
If one former Tory MP can switch so can Tory supporters, you don't tell people who may vote for you to piss off.

It doesn’t matter if it’s for half an hour, if you’ve been an MP for this government you shouldn’t even be welcomed to join Costco. It’s genuinely immoral. I’d be fucking fuming of I were a Labour mp.

I don't think he joined Labour, he's just said he's going to vote with them until the GE?

I very much doubt anyone in the PLP are going to be too miffed, a Tory crosses the floor just before the local elections saying how shit the Tories have become and they don't give a shit about the NHS?
Not going to turn down that opportunity.

Not going to turn down that opportunity. The local party usually says there should be a bi-election at this point. Can't see that happening though.

Good on him. MPs are supposed to represent their constituents, not slavishly follow the party line. I wish more MPs actually did their jobs.

Tories apparently now putting out statements about him being absent all the time and glad to be rid of him. This is a complete embarrassment for the Tories, less then a week before local elections that are likely to be a total disaster for them.

Alternatively, "Poulter? I don't even know'er!" (well, him, but...)

Not sure why he's allowed to suddenly convert to Labour after supporting austerity, the Brexit mad years, Bojo, austerity the director's cut, Covid failure, Liz bastard Truss, austerity: the LbT didn't do it week and Rwanda but I suppose it isn't a surprise.

Not going to turn down that opportunity. Streeting's expressed ideas for the NHS are indistinguishable from what is already been done/tried/happening, and Labour's fiscal policy overall is the same (other than vague hand waving "growth" promises which was the plan that was held by ummm Truss). From personal experience nothing happens in NHSE without treasury signoff, so without a change in fiscal policy or a radical shift in how you manage the NHS nothing will change following the next GE.

The SNP have already shit the bed given current polling, even without the latest VONC stuff, Labour are just ahead. Man tries to shoot himself in foot, misses, decapitates himself instead, Humza Yousaf resigning.

And bookies supposedly have Kate Forbes as favourite to replace him. For those that don't remember, Kate Forbes was the previous leadership contender who is a member of the Free Church of Scotland and opposes same-sex relationships, sex before marriage and most abortions.
Can't see the SNP being regarded as socially progressive for much longer if that comes to pass.

Ha. I was just going to type "so will get the return of that fundamentalist, what's her name?"
The *other* other front runner defected to alba, didn't she? And it was actually *very* close run between the two final candidates iirc.

That's right. Ash Regan was the other person in the contest. She always felt a bit like an Alba plant though and very quickly moved over after the leadership contest ended. She caused agro about the fairness of it and think there were quite a few stories about her being close to Salmond.

This is quite a spectacular implosion. It’s also nice to see a minority coalition partner not just turn into happy-to-be-there boot lickers.
