the timings after conference season get a little tight (assuming they'd want after to get the cash from conference) and run headlong into the US election which gets uncomfortable for both parties, prob more so for the tories with a signficant chunk of them stating support for trump - every other interview sees them being asked if they agree with the latest mad thing that orange twat says
i fear now he's bottled this he'll hang on to the last possible minute (need to check but i think that's shut up shop 12th december, election end of january)
as for why, everyone says - rightly - it'll only get worse for the tories but... it might not. That's all they've got going now. Losing all but 150 MPs or all but 80 MPs - one of them is much worse for the tory party, but both are equally bad for Sunak and he's the one who gets to choose. And by waiting something might happen. It won't. But it might. It's the same setup that plays out in betting shops up and down the country. This next horse will come in and get me out of this hole. But the next horse doesn't, and you're only in deeper.

They are just trying to get as long a runway as possible to secure those media jobs and seats on the boards of petrochemical companies and fuck what's left of the country up. Nobody in their right mind would think they can move the needle in any direction other than down.

Running close to the US election could be weird for Labour too tbh, they can't spend the month or so before calling him a cunt when he's probably going to win.
I mean they can, of course. Just might not be politically savvy.

A Trump win likely would be a boost to the Conservatives. I expect some are wanting to hold out until that happens.
Having said that though, I'm starting to wonder if the Trump 2024 campaign might just fall apart the closer we get. Biden has had a pretty good couple of weeks and is looking buoyant in his appearances. If he can keep that up, the age criticism could fall away. Cracks are starting to appear in the relationship between the US and Israel administration too and those opposing his stance on what is happening in Gaza could start coming back, even if that is a reluctant support after considering how much worse the other guy will be for Palestinians.

The "unbiased" and "fair" publications that those who make the age comments typically watch got enough stutters from State of the Union to keep it going until the new decade probably...

This discussion of our elections being close to the US election is a perfect example of how up their arses we are.
They don't give a fuck about us.

Not seeing how a Trump win helps the Tories, the arsehole is pretty much universally hated in this country even by Conservative supporters, the only ones that are positive about him are the fucking loons that are the reason Labour has a twenty point lead.
Edit : what typo?

They’ll wait in the hope of a bit of leeway for a giveaway fiscal event before the vote

But - you can't really hide prep for such an event, so gearing up for an extra one just after summer would make it pretty obvious an election was being called. Id also note no such prep is taking place currently. And buried in the Budget CX said the next Spending Review would be after the GE.

Sure, the loons aren't going to be won over and will still go on about the age thing (ignoring that their guy is basically the same age and clearly losing it much more), but there are plenty of normies who think he is too old and fragile. There will be quite a few of those that just won't bother coming out to vote. You are right that it won't completely fall away, but if he can keep the energy levels up then I think it could win over some of those that don't want either Biden or Trump. At the very least, it would give some positivity to voting Biden, instead of just voting for him because he isn't the orange wannabe dictator.

They are not going to hold the election the same time as the US one. It's just a minefield with no up sides. Anyone praising Trump will lose 90% of UK voters, the 10 percent are voting Reform anyway, and as likely as not Trump would just call Sunak names, racist ones, about 10 minutes after an endorsement. Making you look both weak and stupid.
Trump winning won't help either as the reaction will be to recoil and pick the less crazy party.

I'd absolutely love our road to be turned into one. It's mostly quiet apart from the white van cunts who seem to treat it as the national speed limit whenever they're using it to cut through to another road.
Minor inconvenience for much more safety and less noise. What's not to like.

Yeah, so you’ve got to make a slightly longer detour rather than go most directly through a load of housing. Put the big boy pants on and deal with it.
The UK has the second highest death rate from kids asthma. It’s noise and risk, but health too.

What a surprise that the BBC article doesn't mention this.

You need to get a few local councillors to move onto your street, then the whole area will magically become an LTN

It's weird that people who live in an LTN seem to be very happy but those who use their roads as rat runs aren't, I can't work out why there's a difference of opinion. It's most strange.

It's also basically GPS and satnav that made those roads through routes.
I am a big proponent though of camera based LTNs, like in some boroughs, that let residents of that bit in. Lambeth just blocks off roads, but our LTN area that does mean quite a round trip to get to our house when travelling from west/north. A final 1 min at end of a long journey becomes a 10 minute one, although of course we got rid of our car, given cycling has become so much more viable.
Last saturday, I did morning clubs (20 minutes cycle south east), McDonalds en route to Natural History Museum (25 min + 35 min), and Battersea Park (20 min), home (20 min), all with two kids on the back of the bike, and on one battery charged. It was bliss. Actually way faster than driving, no expensive parking, and a good workout for me!

Wasn't there a report recently that said LTNs saved the NHS billions because they improved the health of the people who lived in them, because they walked and cycled more?
I guess I'm used to living in Tokyo where I haven't had a car for over a decade, and we just walk, cycle or train everywhere. It's great, except in snow or typhoons.
