30p Lee's problem when he's trying to be funny is that he is completely and utterly humourless. He could tell the funniest joke in the world and not a single person within earshot would die as he'd be so shit at telling it.

I can't unsee the James Murphy likeness now. He just needs to grow some stubble for a few days and do his hair so it looks like he's slept in a bush.
Hopefully his tribulations are only just beginning.

Turns out there's another £5m donation that hasn't been declared yet.

I hope someone uses this new definition of extremism to mount a legal challenge that the Tories should put themselves on to it.

The Tories have caused more harm to this country than terrorists have in the last 14 years so they certainly qualify.

Rishi Sunak rules out general election on 2 May
Of course he does, he has to spend his £5 million "donation" on lunches and drinks no doubt. Sunak is running down the clock to get the most money out of the UK for him, his family and friends before the tories are kicked out
It shouldn't be up to the party in power to set the election date

WTF is wrong with this country part 675 As long as it was a proper Happy Hour with drinks, I could get behind that. Pretty sure I could come up with some plausible solutions to the mystery after a few beers. "She was injured while fighting crime under her secret identity" I've always wanted a wall with red threads as well!

I think he's stupid not going for it. It's the only way he survives before being pushed by his own party. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back on it if things get even tougher over the next few days.

Things can only get worse for the Tories as the year goes on. More people will come off of lower, fixed rate mortgage deals. A bunch of Tory councillors will get the boot in May and not be motivated to canvass in the GE. More of the Tory voting demographic will die and more young people will become eligible to vote. Small boat crossing will rise as the weather improves. Sunak has accepted they're fucked and is just dragging it out regardless of the potential long term damage to the party.
Unfortunately, if the Tories really get curb stomped in the GE. Then whatever crackpot regime they put in place can probably only improve their polling and they'll spend quite a while taking the wrong lesson from defeat. Ultimately, long term, unless the Conservative party falls by the wayside, we need them to find their way back to being the practical, pragmatic cunts, they were pre-referendum. If we're ever going to achieve the long term steps to turn the country around. IE, rejoining the EU, committing to long term investment and taking climate change seriously.

They're probably hanging on long enough to scrap National Insurance so they can properly fuck the Labour governments revenue stream after the election.

Westminster insiders have been saying May was never going to happen for months, with the recent nothing of a budget sealing the deal completely. The only people building up the possibility have been opposition parties, mainly to get donations going and so they can continue the narrative of Sunak being weak.
The Newsagents the other day touched upon the May election rumours and quoted a Tory MP saying along the lines "there are only about 3 of my colleagues that want a May election and they are fucking morons".
An incumbent party is never going to choose to go to the public when they are 20-odd points behind in the polls. They will grip onto power until as long as they possibly can, holding onto hope that things will improve or the opposition fucks up somehow, even if those hopes are illogical. I expect it will be October or maybe November post US elections, but genuinely wouldn't be that surprised if they held it out until the last possible moment of January 2025.

Still can be May 2nd, it only times out as possibility on March 26th. It won't be happening though.
Sunak wants to have to have more time on his record and he's so utterly useless he's not realising that if the local elections are fucking apocalyptic as predicted he'll be ditched anyway to at least try to get some new leader bounce going into the general election.
It doesn't matter what they do now they're completely fucked and there's nothing they can do to change that.

If I was in his shoes I can't imagine a situation where I wouldn't just call it a day and then bugger off to my Santa Monica beach house for an easy life.

I was referring to journalists, but you are probably more likely to know than them Having said, I would think having a plan for something doesn't necessarily mean it is particularly likely.

I thought they'd try and get a bounce post-budget to make May possible. But the economy flatlining gave very little room for big giveaways so now it's onto plan B. I haven't looked at timings but I would have thought conference season was a good time to launch manifestos and go from there.

Position was actually much more unexpectedly rosy and there was more (fake) space to do more announcements at Budget. Still overall a bit dire, of course
