Reading about Rishi's pathetic, self-serving drivel brought to mind this little ditty:

After the basically far right tories have been intentionally fanning the flames of hatred and division for years, it's ridiculous for him to stand up and condemn it. But it seems to have worked in terms of getting headlines and pics of him looking somewhat presidential on the front of almost every paper. Sigh. www.bbc.com/news/blogs-the-papers-68453959

But the usual suspects is like 80% of the UK front pages.

I like to think that the farting horse is the Star’s comment on it.

But crucially not a massive spread in The Sun. It'll be forgotten in no time.

The newspapers really do exist in their own little insane world. All of the reporting last night I saw about his speech was a mix of bafflement, ridicule and fear. I believe it was Andrew Marr that pretty much was saying he should give his speech writers the boot as it was so meaningless.
Yet, you then have the same old newspapers claiming it to be a "landmark speech" and "what people needed to hear".

I listen to the Paper Cuts podcast most days, it's every day on weekdays going through the papers to see what they're saying, and they've noticed just how much The S*n has largely given up reporting UK politics news because it's clearly all shit for their side.
They don't do the weekends but I wouldn't be too surprised if they did a catch up on Monday for today's though with Sunak's bollocks last night.
Newspapers themselves are becoming a hell of a lot less relevant with their dwindling sales figures.

The Sun is setting up for a flip to Starmer. So they can maintain the pretence that they turn the political tide, rather than turn with it.

I have been 'amused' to read that Esther Mcvey apparently views a four day week as "socialist nonsense".
How dare the plebian British workers desire some semblance of work-life balance whilst still working their alloted hours.
This wokery must stop.
When will the tories fuck off with their utter bollocks?

Surely capitalism should embrace whichever has the highest output? And if the amount of work done is the same then the government should stay out of it.
How many days a week do MPs have to work?

It's not about capitalism. This is England, where the plebs and the forrins should know their place and be grateful for it.

I always hate the "what do you do?" question as people always answer with their job. You're not defined by it. My job is the least interesting thing I do.

It's got nothing to do with actual productivity but trying to appeal to the Tory crusties and their 'young people don't know the meaning of work' bullshit.

I recall seeing Corbyn doing one of the leadership debates in front of an audience and he mentioned the notion of a four-day week, which the audience responded to with a noise of derision. Seemed nuts to me that a group of people would immediately scoff at the idea of them having to work less! Surely you would at least be interested in hearing more about this rather than dismiss it out of hand.
And pretty much everything seems to point to it being a more efficient and productive way to work, as well as leading to happier employees.
But, we have been conditioned to believe our work is the be all and all of us. It is your defining attribute. Fear retirement, as it will be the end of your life, without the daily grind of lining somebody else's pockets!

I'm doing 4 day week from end of the month (change of plans from quitting!), but I do only get paid 80% . Feel like a bit of a mug talking to a colleague who does 4 days, compressed hours, but doesn't a really as she doesn't have that much to do.

The great irony is that I've seen a lot of the birth control is concern around working age population decrease so you'd think making it more attractive/ viable to have kids would be the way forward.
But nope. Continue working full time, unable to afford kids, etc.

The latest Ipsos polling is not exactly good news for the Tories, what a shame. “The Ipsos Political Monitor started in the late 70s and has never recorded a Conservative vote share this low – and the job satisfaction trends for the Prime Minister and his government since he took office are also heading downwards.
“Combined with Labour taking leads on issues of economic credibility to go with their traditional strengths in public services, this means the Conservatives face big challenges across a number of fronts if they are to turn the situation around.”
I'm sure the budget will turn things around Sunak, said no one.

Social media surprise of the day - Saul Williams sharing Galloway content. I assume and hope he’s ignorant of George’s past and its more that he’s swept up in the excitement of an “anti-imperialist” fringe candidate beating the real parties off the back of a single issue campaign that he’s sympathetic to. The replies are exactly the car crash you’d expect. www.instagram.com/reel/C4AsD8BIY_7/

been seeing a lot of this type posters not just in my home town of Cambs https://www.reddit.com/r/london/comments/1b64gl5/shepherd_bush_green_today/
tend to be put up by armchair "socialists" aka tankie keyboard warriors. There was post on the local subreddit about communist posters around town and of course they couldn't debate their point without "wrong kind of communism" or "you are tory" and down votes
