The man pretended to be a cat on live TV, licking Rula Lenska's hands - in any other world he'd be forever mocked but instead, he gets to be an MP.

Can't believe Galloway has been more successful at being elected as an MP than Farage. What a crazy place British politics is in right now. Makes calling a GE right now even more pertinent. I’ve argued before and I think I still believe it - Nigel Farage has been the most important voice and the most successful in terms of influencing the direction of British politics since Tony Blair left office. Regardless of his baffling inability to get elected the narrative and ideology for which he is the mouthpiece has driven the Tories farther right over the course of 15 years and every decision Labour has taken has been as a reaction to the Tories rather than being able to wrest control of the national narrative themselves. Almost everything that he’s campaigned for over the years has become government policy and the EU referendum itself possibly wouldn’t have even happened without his voice causing Cameron internal problems within his party. Galloway is undoubtably a hell of an orator but he’s chased out of town at the earliest opportunity and his influence hasn’t been close to the mainstream since the start of the Iraq War. Very true. I expect the main difference is that Farage constantly is given a platform by politics talk shows and places like Have I Got News For You, whereas Galloway doesn't appear to get quite as much air time on the mainstream media, outside of moments like the past few weeks. I expect if you had of asked the general population a month ago to identify a photo of him the majority would struggle, whereas Farage is in the top 5 most recognisable political figures. Plus, the talking points that Galloway takes up are normally foreign affairs issues that only have a marginal impact on most people's everyday lives, whereas Farage had the assistance of about 20 years of media telling everyone that all their problems were down to the EU. I did hear someone (I think Lewis Goodall - it was The News Agents podcast) saying that previous iterations of MP Galloway were before the take over of social media and that it is likely his speeches in the Commons could end up going viral. There is the potential for him to have a bigger impact this time around. Not sure I fully buy it, but it sounds like a valid concern.

I don't think he will have that big an impact beyond a bit more screen time. He's stood on a single foreign affairs issue, that the vast majority of the UK (whilst they might have an opinion on it) don't see how it actually affects them.

I think he’ll undoubtably start getting viral moments among the former Momentum crowd but there’s quite a strong chance it’ll have a fairly limited impact. He’s got too much baggage I think. Someone like Corbyn was a relative blank slate since for all he’d been around forever he was also virtually unknown so a lot of people were able to project onto him. Galloway doesn’t have that luxury so it might get eyes on him but a lot of those eyes will belong to people who already think he’s a twat.
His biggest impact is what he’s already announced as his big priority, being a massive pain in the arse for Starmer. Even if its not a cohort big enough to lose him the election there are enough people still bitter about Corbyn’s losses that they will be swept up by Galloway’s rhetoric and Labour will end up fighting internal battles against them while trying to campaign in the general election.

Galloway isn’t going to make any impact on the National vote. He’s a crank and a fool. He isn’t going to get the racist vote reform/tories have that and isn’t going to get any of the left wing except for the extreme left. He has no media that’ll support him or spread his message.
Rochdale is a fluke of circumstance.

I think the anyone but Starmer faction of the left will share his parliamentary contributions. Lets not forget that there’s no end to the mental gymnastics sufficiently motivated people will make.
Same as Farage its disruption not electoral success where he’ll have his impact. Only it’ll just be limited to causing more left v far left infighting than shifting the national mood on any particular issue.

Not a general election. It's going to be about mob rule.

The irony of that cunt talking about protecting our democratic processes.
This, a thousand times over.
Hey Rishi - which "democratic process" brought you into 10 Downing Street? Remind us!

This the new strategy now? "You're not safe anymore, only we can protect you"?

I missed the start of this. What’s the twat prattling on about? Extremism is bad and Galloway is a cunt.

Extremism is bad but two of his own party coing out with inflammatory racist bile that Sadiq Khan is controlled by Islamists in order to rile up extremists, sorry, patriots, is fine? Gotcha.

Amazing. They've been fanning the flames of division for the best part of ten years while it suited them. Everything that's happening is just the natural progression of their culture war. If they want to help they should launch themselves into the sun.
And now we have Galloway smugly crowing over Sunak's speech like the absolutely massive TWAT he is.
I'm going to need a stiff drink tonight. Sigh. Somebody get me off this fucking island.

It was quite funny from the point that the sound engineer had to crank up the sound on Sunak to try and mask the person shouting something in the background so you could hear birdsong and other random sounds.
More interesting than the guff coming out of his gob.

Leaving aside the content, why on earth do this at 6pm on a Friday night? No-one is paying attention mate. We just want to enjoy our weekend.

I was thinking the same. I bet the Newscast team and other journalists are seething at having to go back to work at 6:00 on a Friday

BBC news channel just didnt know what to make of it. Kind of fluttered around a bit, and then went "and now over to the weather".

Plus, Tories have already laid the groundwork this week to start going on about it being proof of "mob rule" and "extremists" gaining power. So fucking predictable. Think I'm far more concerned about this gobshite and the surrounding nutjobs being in charge than the loudmouth in a hat spouting his hot air.

This Elvis Costello chap has caused a bit of a kerfuffle, hasn’t he? Well he used to have a carefree mind of his own, with a devilish look in his eye. These days, I'm afraid, he's not even sure if his name is George Galloway

As a country tries to slash the state, inevitably, it has to institute more authoritarian measures. We have had bill after bill restricting the right to protest and Islamists seem as good a target as the 'eco mob.' Not Farmers though, they're okay.
Not sure people, I mean ordinary people, are buying this shit. Outside of the Westminster bubble and people who are politically engaged to a certain extent. I think it's a bandwidth issue, most people are either trying to survive, or make their lot 'slightly better' for themselves to engage with this bullshit.
