Cant even eat a bacon sandwich outside your home any more without getting stabbed by an illegal immigrant with an inflatable boat on his back.

Yeah, but they were groomed by that shifty looking foreign rat. And they have foreign names. Probably fake birth certificates too, now I think about it.

"...And because my mortgage rises this month from Ā£800pcm to Ā£2,000, which I simply couldnāt afford to pay on a ministerial salary. Thatās political economy 2.0.
Weāre in danger of making politics something only Hedge Fund Donors, young spin doctors and failed trade unionists can afford to do..." Freeman, who has been the MP for Mid Norfolk since 2010, would have been receiving an annual salary of around Ā£118,300.
I really hate this creeping narrative that because politics isn't the best paid job in the world we're losing out on talent, that "only hedge fund donors, young spin doctors, and failed trade unionists can afford to do" - you missed one out, George, - people who want to serve the motherfucking public interest.
Yes you can get more than Ā£120,000 in the private sector, but if you need more than four times the average wage to motivate you to be a public servant, then public service is not for you and we're better off having people not so soley motivated by money running our institutions. You know who else doesn't go into it for the money? Nurses. Teachers. Environmental Protection Officers. Fucking Lollipop Ladies. Why is politics so unique in apparently requiring private sector comparable pay?
And while we're on the subject - you can't very well give quotes one day about how poor people should just learn how to budget properly and you can perfectly adequately feed a family of four on a tenner a week if you just bought a sack of potatoes, and then the next day say you can't possibly live on a hundred and twenty FUCKING GRAND.
Fucking boils my piss.

He is kind of accidentally right, though. Our current government is littered with people who are either an MP as a necessary step to a seat on board of directors or are an MP as a second job to enrich their primary source of income as either a landlord or a wealth fun manager. None of them seem to actually want to be there to serve the public.

Loose use of the word 'talent'. If you can watch porn on your phone without there being a noticeable drop in your performance then your function isn't one that you can fail at. Unlike 'nurses teachers etc'. Not that there aren't good public servants, but it definitely seems to be an opt in situation.

That dude has no idea what people have to pay in rent in London on much lower salaries.
Ā£800pcm for a mortgage to own the friggin house is peanuts (in London). My first place in London for my first job, a one bed, back in 2008, was 1300pcm, split between two. My after tax income was around 1700 quid.
My team has it much worse now - they are pretty worried about finding new digs if they get kicked out by their landlord.
Most MPs are on higher salaries than more experienced civil servants than me at a fair level of seniority (top folk will of course be paid more).

None of them seem to actually want to be there to serve the public. It's almost as if there should be requirement for potential MPs to do a civics exam and maybe provide actual proof of being an instrumental figure in one's community. You know, to show that they are actually able to do some work.

Going to an expensive school then doing PPE at Oxford is easily the best way to prepare for governing the country, actual experience of the real world? Well that's just weird.

My dad used to always bemoan that teachers had no 'real world experience' going from School to Uni and then back to school while steadfastly ignoring the Tory MP Factory Eton have got going.

On Freeman, this important piece of information was in the FT:
"Although critics questioned how Freeman could be struggling to afford a Ā£2,000 mortgage on a salary of nearly Ā£120,000, the Tory MP told The New Statesman on Monday that his finances were ānot what they wereā after āa very painful divorceā."

It's truly bizarre. It's like something you'd expect a 12 year old to do with their mates, not a grown adult who clearly has aspirations to run the fucking country.

After 2 years of feckless posturing while on full pay, the DUP picked their toys back into the pram and agree to go back to government. But only if the UK government fully agrees to the terms the DUP laid out and is faithfully enacted in full so I have no reason to doubt they'll pull back out again when the UK government doesnt do that as they're not gonna be dictated on what trade negotiations can be done with the EU by Unionist dinosaurs across the pond. DUP had no choice really, the talk of direct rule from UK and Ireland was looming and with Sein Fein going to be the elected party down South, then they'd have rule over N Ireland and the DUP couldn't do anything. 2 years of no government for nothing basically, we're back to square one.
Still, during the meeting last night, someone in the DUP, supposedly a senior, was secretly leaking what was being said to an outside source as it happens, who then started putting this all out on Twitter. Cue panic inside the building as enforcers were searching for the leaker, even wanting to get the police to come in and block phone signals (they cant)
