I mean yeah you think it wouldn't be hard for the leader of the country not to be a raving narcissist and look out for the benefit of the population without trying to fill their trough but here we are.

Thought that was a key requirement of wanting to lead a country.

ChatGPT would have made a better go at handling COVID than Johnson, it's not a high threshold to exceed.

Corbyn was suspiciously evasive on the vaccine issue and did quite a lot of ranting about the influence of Big Pharma. I suspect he’d have been disastrous in a completely different way to Botis.

I stand by the fact you could run around any town centre with a butterfly net and catch 20 odd people who would have done a better job with Covid than them.

Lincoln itself is a university town and fairly modern.
Rest of the county, though...

I never read the full 200 pages long form version no. I doubt anyone did including yourself. I do remember the £250bn number being chucked around but with very little meaningful explanation of where it would come from. The £250bn would have come from borrowing for investment and would have been spent over ten years, so £25bn a year. At the time at least, interest rates were zero or negative so in theory would have been cheap. Without Covid or the war in Ukraine disrupting supply chains, they would have remained that way. The current opposition are proposing £28bn a year (with caveats). I would agree on one thing though, they did shit the bed in 2019 by over promising. Late entries including free broadband and £50bn for Waspi women. The 2019 election was based on one issue and I think 'Get Brexit Done' (after three years of talking about it) appealed to a lot of people.

It's obviously the small things, long after the damage was done, but genuinely lovely to see BBC Scotland finally having to acknowledge the news stories around Mone after all these years. Their go-to, poster figure for the No campaign and Tory pin-up, whom they relentlessly platformed as representing the "voice of business" who was "on the side of the Scottish people". An odious, narcissistic snake, out only for herself and her own. Get in the fucking bin.

A couple of foreign friends have mentioned Instagram blowing up with a barrage of weird anti-UK posts, ragging on Muslims wanting to implement Sharia law, talks of a wave of murders and the like. We had people asking what was going on, were we safe etc.
Anyone seen any of this - I’m so out of the loop here.

it's only a rough theory but US relatives have seen it as a right wing troll kickback to "lefty" concerns about guns etc.
ie.
1) some fucker shoots up class 3b's school field trip (or "tuesday") 2) people suggest that maybe guns might be bad noting that UK has barely any gun crime by comparison 3) fox news starts spinning that the UK is actually stabby blood bath and if only they had guns to defend themselves
same thing happens with immigration - UK gets offered up as a largely progressive multi cultural society with all the benefits that brings, US build-a-wall types start up about sharia law no go areas and bollocks

Burn Instagram, tiktok, the lot of em to the ground. Or, simply classify these businesses (and all social media) as publishers/broadcasters, like they should have been all along, with liability for the bullshit and nonsense that gets posted on them. Never ceases to amaze me that the police waste time policing these platforms, when the sodding owners should be doing their own moderating, and then perhaps the police could do stuff like, y'know, deal with burglaries etc.

Birmingham a no go area for police Sharia law in many UK cities People refusing to work because of benefits
Tbf you see some of those headlines over here.

Cant even eat a bacon sandwich outside your home any more without getting stabbed by an illegal immigrant with an inflatable boat on his back.

The knife crime thing is particularly annoying as per capita the US still "wins" that too.
Also living in a fairly multicultural city (Bristol) I find the sketchiest areas are the incredibly white impoverished areas.

TBF a lot of foreign media just reports what the UK press reports, and if you look at the front pages of the UK press then you'd get the impression that that's kinda what's happening.
Imagine if your view of the UK was formed entirely based on Express / Daily Mail / Sun headlines.

Well I decided to take a walk up to my highstreet yesterday as it was a nice day. Firstly, the Waitrose was closed and completely gutted inside. Something about refurbishment but I don't buy it. Hopped over to the M&S across the street and the main entrance door wasn't working so had to use park entrance door. Then to Boots where one of the ceiling panels had fallen off. Then WHSmith didn't have a single copy of Retro Gamer.
Gails was full so had to settle for Costa but everyone in there talked funny.
I realise now that I'm living in a no-go area /o\

We had people asking what was going on, were we safe etc. Anyone seen any of this - I’m so out of the loop here. Most European countries are used as scare stories for elderly reactionaries in other countries. We get 'this is Germany now' and the rest of the world gets 'this is the UK now'. Its the extreme end of those seemingly benign nostalgia accounts that post a black and white photo of London with an implied 'wasn't this nice when we had no black people?' message.
