There is a line in one of them along the lines of "The power of the One extends all the way to the source" which I always thought was quite open ended as to whether he's in another Matrix, or the machines simply can't comprehend his existence on such a level that his mere presence fucks with them in real life too.

I just watched the first one again, neo dresses like those school shooter kids from Columbine. I only recently learned that this is what made it a 15 rather than 12 certificate (or US PG-13). Because it came out right after Columbine. I watched it with my older two kids, 10yo and 13yo, and honestly, the violence in the first Matrix is no worse than something you'd see in any of the cert-12 Marvel movies. However, I then watched Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions with just the 13yo... and they definitely step up the mature stuff. It's not the sex scenes that bother me (13yo didn't seem bothered by Neo and Trinity humping, she was on her phone). But there's some quite gory bits I'd forgotten that would probably have given the 10yo nightmares. I didn't know it came out after. John Wick as well, the whole gun violence revenge themes make you wonder about US Cultures relationship with guns and whether movies play a part

His power over sentinels in the sequels was a stretch, the fact The One was just a regular guy IRL was what made it interesting. Giving him a Huawei 5G brain chip to scramble robots and see fiery “code” with his eyes closed was the shittiest part of the sequels

Yeah, my daughter asked me to explain the third film to her after it finished, and I'd read the Wikipedia synopsis in preparation for this entirely predictable moment - but I still couldn't do it. Just had to go with Matrix-in-a-matrix maybe.

I’d rather they explain the sentinels blowing up as an elaborate hoax by the machines to make him believe he was even more powerful

I mean, we already know it isn’t given you see Neo with burnt out eyes from Revolutions in the trailer itself. I missed that this is now generally seen as a reboot / whatever you call it when you pretend the shit boys never happened. Great news!

Part of me wonders if this is actually set in the source rather than a matrix but probably not. They clearly aren't ignoring the sequels and they shouldn't. I think they are going to be doing everything they can to avoid stuff leaking and give out some false information.

The machines all communicated wireless with each other and by that point he’d started to blur that line.

I got lucky, I was way out of it for whatever reason around the time of the original Matrix so had absolutely zero idea what I was about to see on on my first viewing in a almost empty screening on a wet Tuesday. Obviously, blown away, and amazingly it still holds up till this day.
Caught the last trailer, but that is it for me, trying to shut myself off from anything else until I watch it.

Falls apart a bit when he can “see” agent smith just before he smacks bane’s head off after dodging him without any eyes. It’s just a bit of a shitty mcguffin in any case, why would they put WiFi in a human thats supposed to be hardwired for life

If you want the internal lore explanation it’s’s because Neo is a program/user hybrid and they showed several times that programs can exist outside of The Matrix

The programs existing outside of the matrix was equally guff though, particularly Smith. They should have gone down the 'they're in another matrix outside of the matrix' but I guess that would've baked everyone's noodle.

Got the place to myself, so watching 2. If I'm reasonably entertained I might have another bash at 3.

The biggest problem I had with both sequels is I just don’t see any need to give a fuck about Zion. Most of 3 is a shitty alien war movie except they haven’t blown up the Capitol, it’s just a cave, and none of the characters I’ve invested in are even there anyway. Let it fall, so what

Yeah Zion almost feels like its taking place in another film or tv show. Can’t fault the ambition but trying to fit a season’s worth of tv into one film (Reloaded) makes it hard to care about all the new characters before the feature length final battle in the next film.
That said they come very close.

Not since it first came out. Surprised Netflix didn’t pick it up with the movies.

Animatrix was alright, though I don’t think we really needed the backstory about how the war started, it ultimately added nothing to the main storyline and was a bit Prometheus in its answering questions no one asked. Flight of the Osiris was just kind of cringy nonsense (the lingering shot of a CG ass was a little neckbeard even for then) that could have been a couple of lines in Reloaded, but some of the other shorts were visually nice.

I think that they put neo back in matrix, to make him happier they made him a film star called keanu reeves who stars in a film called the matrix.

After watching the trilogy over the last few days I think the new one is probably the machines plugging Neo and Trinity’s bodies into the new Matrix and then their memories returning and then trying to escape to return to Zion.
Which feels unambitious but thats kind of what the trailer shows or at least in as many callbacks as it has.
I don’t know if I prefer this to Matrices all the way down Inception-style or not.
