Noel Fielding as the Cat in a post-Boosh vanity project version is something I could envisage happening on one of these timelines too
I wonder who you’d use in a gender flipped cast these days. Diane Morgan would probably end up in there wouldn’t she.

Finally got around to watching The Promised Land last night. Only four years too late. As usual it was a bit uneven but there was some properly good stuff in there too that nearly harkened back to the glory days. What stopped me was never finding out where to watch it, but the Beeb have them all now! Which I think was quite a recent addition as I'm sure I looked late last year and they only had up to Back to Earth. I'm not ashamed to say I guffawed loudly a few times. The whole cat plot was shit but as usual stick the main four (and Holly) in a confined space and there's some absolute gold.

Yeah it's pretty good in places isn't it.
I *especially* love the bit where lister hasn't got the heart to tell the guys on the pilgrimage in the back that he isn't the one. So cat has a go, and he can't. And neither can kryten.
And Rimmer, walking ever so slowly, approaches Dave and lowers his posture and simply smiles.
Brilliant.

Thinking about anything after series 6 makes me feel sad.

And the classic interactions. “What’s our trajectory Kryten?” “Down, sir”

It's just the beat isn't it really.
One thing that always sticks out in series 3, backwards, is when rimmer asks Holly about what time it is, and she replies about lunchtime. Then rimmer berates her and asks what year. But she needs more information to calculate that, which rimmer asks what is.
"Well, this year's calendar would be handy"
Taking that to the grave.

Ha ha. My own personal favourite:
“Step up to Red Alert.” “Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.”

Red Dwarf adjacent but Chris Barrie is back as Simon the Sorcerer, 30 years after voicing him in the first game.

From The Bodysnatcher Collection, the "lost episode" of Red Dwarf I was reconstructed with storyboards and read by Chris Barrie. Certain lines of dialogue would make it into other episodes, and the central plot device eventually became the episode "Me²".
