New flooring in the kitchen went down thurs-fri this week. Left the 'good' biscuit box out for them.
Cheeky sods ate about 30+ assorted kitkats, timeouts, blue ribbands etc! 😱

So we went for it and sanded the beat up parquet in our living room..we were so so so so close to nailing it for less than 400 quid. Hired a floor sander Filled it with bona mix and fill Finished with bona primer and laquer But then disaster! Inevitably a few sections are showing scuffs and scratches from the sanding. Mainly due to not having one of those fancy planetary spinning sander things. We might make our peace with it, however I wondering If I tackled the worst scratches by hand going at individual blocks. Then finishing it again with the same primer laquer could that work? Might be a slight discolouration but we wouldn't have the scratches. Gutted as we so nearly smashed it Rent a buffer. Buff with a 120 then 150 screen If you’ve never used a buffer before start in the very middle of the room and prepare to shit yourself Re-read your post. As you’ve already coated it you’ll need to get that up first. So I’d use a 60 light and quick. Then an 80. Then 120. Then recoat The orbital motion buffs out and scratches from sanding. Wagering the worst ones are crossing the grain.

Decided to sort out the folder this morning that we keep all the user manuals in for things we have or no longer have (oven, fridge that sort of thing) came across a page for the kitchen mixer tap I mentioned needed fixing on the previous page. www.tapsandsinksonline.co.uk/product/howdens-lamona-hi-tech-tap3407-valve/Good job I did looking at that. I now think I know which valve to order but I need to take the old valve out to confirm it. That's a job for Monday morning so I can phone someone when I mess up! Why can't things just be universal. Oven and hob is also Lamona and the gas hob ignition switch has an issue in that sometimes it works and sometimes it takes awhile for anything to happen.

I've got a Lamona dishwasher (came with the house) and it's mostly been pretty good, but it's starting to develop some issues and no one local who services such things wants to remotely touch it.

Howdens might be able to help you out - that's where our Lamona stuff came from when we got our kitchen done. Here's the link: www.howdens.com/help-and-advice/aftersales/product-support

Howdens can FOAD imo. Their whole "we're trade only, we'll give your builder the quote" ethos can just get to fuck.

They are the reseller for that brand, so probably still good starting point to find an engineer if everywhere else is saying 'nah'.

Gang... I'm looking into Ring products for protecting my house from nasty burglars.
I'm weighing up the Security System (camera, contact sensors for windows, motion detectors, outdoor siren) vs just having some cameras on alert mode.
Anyone got any experience? We were weighing up when we moved in, but partly hastened by a friend in the area getting their entire house rinsed in January whilst on holiday with their newborn. Cunts got in through the extension flat roof on their terraced house... Which is also what we have. Oof.

It's 8 years old, they were pretty non-committal about even a paid service visit. Like, they didn't want to do it, but did seem to want say so.

I have installed a Simplisafe system (let me know if you want a referral...).
You install it all yourself, it's wireless (except indoor cameras which need usb power).
You need to pay a monthly fee.
It includes backup power and telecoms for if your electricity/internet is knocked out.
I have the door sensors on front door, both back doors and the garden gate (this doesn't trigger anything except notifying me and the cameras to take a snapshot).
Motion sensors in hall, kitchen, dining and living room + glass break sensors.
One camera inside pointed at front door, an outdoor camera on front covering front door/gate, one at back covering backdoors and garden, and one on top of garden gate looking into my alleyway.
The service includes an actual person going to the property to check if the alarm goes off and they can't reach me to check. If you have cameras and give them access, they can also check those, and if they see something suspicious they can call the police.

More details available if anyone cares. Our Alarm system is an ERA Homeguard Pro. It's unmonitored, but it has all the stuff you asked about and is modular, so you can use whatever you like of theirs. Can use fobs, app, remote, too. This is the 3rd time we've used them and they're decent. www.safe.co.uk/products/era-homeguard-smart-alarm-pro-elite-kit.html

We went with the wireless eufyCam’s a couple of years back and they’ve worked really well as a deterrent as we were getting quite a few people walking around the house to look at the view, now they clock the cameras and walk off. The cameras start recording as soon as people walk onto the driveway and alerts are sent to our phones. We do have one camera sat at the end of the balcony on the floor, it’s been catching some great night time recordings of a pretty little mouse who’s been coming to visit… I dread to think what it’s been doing to the decking’s single ply membrane though! We’ve got the older eufyCam 2’s, we have to take ours down every few months to recharge them but the newer eufyCam 3’ are solar powered and the recordings have been upgraded from 1080p to 4k, so may think about an upgrade as not taking them down to charge would be great. //edit eufys security tab link defaults to deals in the url, nothing I can do about it: uk.eufy.com/pages/eufy-security-dealseufycam 2: www.amazon.co.uk/Security-eufyCam-Wireless-Weatherproof-Compatible/dp/B081F32ZT1eufycam 3: www.amazon.co.uk/eufy-security-Integrated-Recognition-Expandable/dp/B0B7NLK2T1/

Funny how seeing embedded links just makes me think it’s a spambot post.
We’ve got a monitored alarm with ADT, comes with a nice big box stuck on the front of the house which is the best deterrent imo. I done know how much of a deterrent cameras are to the crims, a balaclava fixes that problem. A client of mine recently had his house burgled while on holiday, his Ring sent an alert so he logged on and watched 3 blokes pulling his clothes and stuff out of the drawers looking for valuables. He showed me the videos, I think I’d rather not have the option of seeing that take place in my own home tbh

//edit
Sooo... not on topic but being a long time eg & fg lurker are embed links a bit of a faux pas when posting then, would be cool to know for future reference.

Yeah, not a faux pas, just not used to seeing anyone make the effort apart from random spambots with ai generated essays filled with hyperlinks

Gone up a lot lately, used to be £30 a month for fire alarm, motion sensors and alarm when we got it 6 years ago. Think it’s about £45 now

I pay £24.99 for Simplisafe. You pay for the system bits and bobs separately and install yourself. They'll send you extra batteries for free if you ask.
They added the securitas guard coming to your house if the alarm goes off last year without increasing the price, which was nice.

I just bought some Ring bits and bobs on sale this week. We are moving house, so it's a blank slate. They've got a traditional alarm system, but it's also Year Zero on smart stuff, so I can put some thought into it, and not have the hodge podge of stuff we have at the moment. Not sure whether our buyers will want stuff left.
I was looking at Simplisafe, but they got a tanking on its sub-reddit. Other than that it looked OK, so maybe just moaners!

I've managed to scrounge a load of free wood from work, got a week off next week and I'm going to build myself a kitchen. This could all go horribly wrong.
