No I didn't. I checked the state of it and it was fine. I cleaned and reseated it and put a test run on and it seems to be working. So far anyway.

Not house per se, but fixed a vintage chair today. Springs and metal bars on the underside, three of the bars pulled their nails out and one broke clean off. Fixed the three with screws, added a piece of metal at the end of the fourth and fixed that as well.
Also, I replaced the faux leather seat cover. Quite happy with the result.

Oh right, sorry. I'm a bit hard of thinking today (cold / pre-COVID). Yes, I put the seal back in. The seal tensioners are a bit of a faff.

That was my experience when I had to do it - if by “faff” you mean “motherfucking pain in the arse cunt that won’t fucking clip back into this fucking piece of shit the fucking son of a cunt YES I KNOW THE KIDS CAN HEAR ME SWEAR but have seen this fucking thing?”?

One end kept pinging off and the seal kept needing to be reseated. I wasn't the happiest person in the house while doing it. My wife's contribution was to tell me that she can get 10% off at AO with her blue light card. I'm not sure she had much confidence in me...

Just spent a good ten minutes up a ladder, swearing, whilst fitting the Wireless Siren for our new alarm system.
Mostly because it's really cold and I couldn't get my fingers to work on the plastic clips, tiny screws, etc.
Still, it is done and I have saved £200 on the fitting. Yay.

I’m currently lying in the bath ignoring the upstairs bathroom project. Put in new fan, just need to hang drywall over existing stuff. Which Is covered in popcorn coating.
Have cut drywall with holes for fan and light fixture. Then realized the length I’d cut makes the strip that fills out the gap left by 57” ceiling and 48” drywall too thin. It doesn’t land on a joist.
Left it for later. Currently it’s two days later

I don't want to speak too soon, but since trapping that mouse and blocking up the only access point I could find, I've not heard or seen a peep from my furry friends.
In your face, doom merchants! I got pretty lucky.

Under my kitchen sink is leaking everywhere. I don’t like it. And have no idea how to fix it.

Anything related to plumbing or electrical just isn't worth the risk. Get a guy in.
Pretty much anything else and I'll have a stab at it.

Plumbing is a bitch, if you start taking things apart old seals can give way and it's easy to damage pipes.
Unless you have all the tools I'd go with plumber.

I agree entirely. I was needing to remove a non-working dishwasher last week.
In theory I could have done it all myself - turn the water off to the little tap, disconnect the machine and the drain hose under the sink.
Really though it needs the tap end washered and capped, and the sink attachment sealed. I don’t have the kit and was shutting it to unplug the tap!

After a bit of experimentation and watching YouTube videos it seems it’s one of the joins on the u-bend thingy. Gonna take it off, replace the washer and put it back on. If that doesn’t work I’ll get a plumber out tomorrow.

Well done. I've replaced a few things under sinks and I'm no genius when it comes to plumbing. Turn off the main stop cock and dry everything off then run some water in a jug through and you can usually see where it is. There's not a lot to go wrong and it's usually a washer or just a joint that needs tightening. That said, don't force shit and it's probably an idea to have some of that white tape in that fixes leaking taps.
I've just put up a whiteboard... In my bedroom. My wife's turned a corner into her office (as it gets the best light obviously, oh and it's the shortest commute). I'm just finishing up now and vacuuming as no one else seems able to do stuff like that.

PTFE tape is amazing. You should be able to replace the u bend quite easily if needed. Should be a case of swapping out, just need to make sure the thread size is right.

Removed the p-trap (apparently that’s what a u-bend under a sink is called). Wasn’t clogged, cleaned it a bit, but still can’t get it to go on properly. Posted a job ad, it’s beyond my abilities now if it goes past a clean and tighten effort.

Yeah, I fitted a new washing machine the other day. All seemed fine, went to get something from the cupboard and it was a bit damp. Turns out the hose needed probably 1/8 of a turn more and had been dropping ever so slightly since. Seems fine now.

We found out when it started dripping through the downstairs neighbour's ceiling.

It's mandatory if you are doing anything involving threaded connections and fluids, home or vehicle. I used to skip replacement seals (if I didn't have the right size on me) and use ptfe to get vans with leaking cooling systems (outside of the rad) back to the workshop and it worked, just couldn't go over 20ish mph or it would seep and overheat.

I am not handy, but I've ripped out a rotten old sink and u-bend/trap and replaced it all in an old house when it was pissing water.
I've installed a new toilet as well, without the need for a plumber.
Go me.

Mrs Toast and I are thinking about getting another toilet room built in the house, since there's currently only one loo (in the family bathroom, we're in a bungalow).
The issue is that the preferred location would have the door to the new toilet opening directly off the dining room. I think that is icky, Mrs Toast does not. I don't think there are laws against it so far as I know, just doesn't feel right somehow...

Just feels odd to me that you can all be sitting there having dinner, then someone gets up and goes for a massive dump just the other side of the door before coming back to the table. Every house I've ever lived in before has toilets off a corridor, or an en suite at most.

Got our new kitchen being starting Thursday. 6 months after it was supposed to be started.
The cooker we want hasn't been in stock for months now, and the fridge we were planning on has just shot up in price...

It's borderline icky (door from toilet straight to the dining room) in my book. I'd avoid that if at all possible.

Every house I've ever lived in before has toilets off a corridor, or an en suite at most. But if you're all sat there having dinner, why wouldn't you use the other toilet, that's all you'd do. You don't have to use that toilet but it sounds like it would serve as a useful addition when you're not all sat there having dinner. Anyway maybe upload a plan of your house, there might be another way ....
