Did you find any shed skin? Might be aliens. Sheds have wooden siding not skin, silly

Get in pest control, they will put down proper poison (that doesn't make them smell), and check for entry points into the house. If you can hear them and find droppings you probably have at least half a dozen of them already, and they will multiply every couple weeks

If you head over to fontsqueak.io, you can probably read them all talking about it. Superb

Probably the wrong thread, was looking for the manly achievements one, but I just had to tell someone.
I just replaced the drive belt in my tumble dryer.
I'm really impressed with myself, it wasn't as easy as the YouTube video made it look, and it was touch and go when the whole thing practically fell apart, but I kept my cool, and managed to figure it all out. Thanks to all the PCs I've built and all the lego and technic kits no doubt!
It's the kind of thing that probably has loads of tumble dryers heading for the tip, but for 6 quid and about 2 hours of faff, the thing is working brilliantly again.
On a side note, the amount of fluff build up inside the machine is terrifying, no wonder they have problems with these things catching fire.

Good work, whilst not as impressive, I fixed my hoover a few months ago and it was massively satisfying. Especially not having to pay for a new one.
In other news, after catching that mouse I had a few days of silence and no sign of any others. Until tonight. I can hear them in the walls again.
Might be time to call in the big guns (pest control).

Get a cat, seriously. Cats are great and dead easy to look after.
Edit: although I will say that despite having 2, they still let the odd one loose. Usually when they've brought one in as a gift and don't really want to murder there and then.

I'd love a cat, but it's against my tenancy sadly. I am looking to buy next year though and that's one of the biggest motivators 😄

I fixed our fancy steam iron when the sole plate started falling off and the satisfaction was immense. Especially as it was just a matter of doing up a screw when I managed to work out how to get the thing open.

We've got a Dyson cordless vacuum and it's ridiculous how much of an impact completely stripping it down and cleaning makes (plus having a spare filter you can swap out and clean) Legit thought it was done for, but it was as good as new after that.
Battery is still utterly shit, though.

Plus, being a Dyson, it's noisy and inefficient as fuck.

I’ve tried pest control companies for mice, fucking useless. Couple of hundred quid for them to put “industrial strength” poison boxes down, did fuck all and wasn’t tempted to call them back for another invoice. The absolute best traps are the incredibly inhumane glue traps, do the decent thing and be prepared to get up in the middle of the night to put the squealing fucker out of its misery asap with a hammer

Only realised a couple days after he was dead... I have had pest control fairly consistently over past year. Just impossible to close up our old house - I think they come thru from neighbour somewhere between walls/floors. The last time, none of the bait was touched for two visits. On the third they had eaten it all out of like 7 boxes around the house. He reckoned it was 4 or 5 for each box, so that is maybe 35 mice!!!!

What's up with it? The flush you can fix (you can buy the complete kit) and anything else is usually a blockage.

The sceptic in me thinks it's in the pest control guys' best interests to overstate the amount of mice you might have. Their websites are full of worse case scenario calculations that assume some kind of perfect mouse Eutopia under your floorboards. *Famous last words* Anyway, I found a potential entry point and shoved some wood in it earlier (what?) as a temporary fix.

Possibly not the perfect thread for this, but I’ll give it a go.
Vacuum cleaner recommendations? UK- available, please.
Mrs. EMM has pretty much fallen out with my old Henry completely. Even though it’s me that does most of the cleaning (the joys of freelancing from home!), she’s had enough.
The house is living upstairs (all hard floors), beds and shower, etc. downstairs. Mixture of hard and carpet. Stairs carpeted.
Probably prefer something that’s easy to carry up and down the stairs. I’ve had Miele, Dyson and Hoover in the past. Not desperate for cordless.
Are Dysons more reliable now than they used to be? The V15 keeps coming up in searches.
Any long term recommendations much appreciated!
