Playstation store and PSplus section down for anyone else? Fine for me on the app.

Ah didn't even think of the app, cheers. Both just aren't loading whereas everything internet based works. Leave it long enough I can at least use the search for store. Was curious if it was just a "me" issue.

Trying Horizon Remaster and I forgot why I found this difficult to get into, it looks really fucking nice maybe not as nice as Forbidden West but it's still the same janky ass combat and platforming of the OG version and it's forever wanting. Human combat is also pretty bad. They really did improve a lot of it for the sequel. The hilarious thing is how it really does force you down the combat route.

I found the combat really enjoyable once mastered
Was very slick and tactical

I don't think i could describe the human vs human combat as that. There are some sloppy bugs like out of sync audio to lip syncing. Bit surprised tbh for a 1st party production.

I loved those bandit camps, they were always incredibly fun
I loved all of it though, in some games you groan when there’s yet another enemy encounter but in HZD, I was continually looking for more things to kill

I missed that they'd done a remake, but weird. Bloody loved the first one though, the combat encounters with those T-Rex's were genuinely some of the most exciting fights I can recall! I bounced off the sequel but remember loving the first one. Tempting ..

It's more of a remaster than a remake. £10 to upgrade.

Yeah definitely not a remake.

It's absolutely not for me as it's too soon for a replay but I'm surprised at how much of an upgrade it has had graphically, it looks amazing.

Pro unboxing are now online. A little smaller than the OG model, and a bit nicer looking. Obviously larger than the slim.

Just watched the DF one. They missed a nerdy trick by not complaining about the tearing. Richard just going to town on the box properly cracked me up.
Looks quite nice without the disc drive... I'm in two minds about adding one to mine now purely from an aesthetics standpoint.

I did enjoy the visible contempt for doing an unboxing video from DF.
Was surprised that the Pro was smaller than the OG, but really shouldn't be considering how fricking huge that thing is.

Rich obviously knows he has to play to the algorithm but yeah i enjoyed his barely restrained contempt at having to play the game as it were.

So it looks like the PS5Pro has an additional 2gb of DDR5. Interesting little change which I think might allow games to take a larger slice of the GDDR6 for games.

Yeah, sounds like it might be used purely for OS/system stuff, so that's no longer cordoning off a section of main memory. Nice little change

I don't like that they chicken out on answering the question of whether it is worth the asking price. They know the hardware it contains and the rough equivalents, which have known RRPs. They can see the performance gains and although image quality can be somewhat an objective opinion as to how worthwhile improvements might be they can still quantify much of it.
There is no doubt that Sony are setting a new precedent with their pricing, but if it is good value for the level of tech that it is outputting then they should say so. Otherwise, they should be calling out Sony for over-inflating the price tag.

I'm not so sure about that, they have said what is negative about the package in terms of no stand or blu ray drive and they have maintained that the OG is still a great product. At the end of the day it's an enthusiasts device and the price is what it is, they provide all the data about what it does and what it doesn't do. It really is upto you if you think the results are worth the asking price as they say at the end.

PS5 Pro may be targeted at enthusiasts at the moment, but it surely is paving the PS6's way for the masses, especially if MS/Xbox don't get their shit together.

Interestingly I learned yesterday that series x does have a small machine learning block in that MS have never bothered with. It's nowhere near the ps5 pro block for significant upscaling but could be used for their Auto SR software but they've just forgotten about. Classic.

If they released it for £6k I would still be able to decide if it was worth my money, but I would expect reviews to say it is piss poor value for money. I'm sure if it came out at £400 they would be openly saying in their review that it was fantastic value for money.
I'm assuming that they don't think it is good value for money, but don't want to outright say it, as you can read between the lines of those opening paragraphs. As you say, they mention the sparse box that doesn't scream premium.
The product itself does sound great though.

I'm assuming that they don't think it is good value for money, but don't want to outright say it, as you can read between the lines of those opening paragraphs. They have an hour-plus YT review on it if you want the full breakdown. Rich continues to state the obvious about premium electronics - the PS5 is good, the Pro is better but you have to pay for it - John says that it's the console he'd want as he plays a lot of console games, and Oli thinks it's good hardware and if you can pony up the cost you'll likely have compelling experiences over the next few years. Realistically though, it's not good good value if you have a PS5 already, that's doing 70% of what the Pro is doing, and only a small amount of the new stuff is stuff you'll regularly notice (and some folk literally won't be able to tell any difference). But the nature of premium electronics isn't about being the good value, it's about being good enough value for the interested individual or power user. It's the same across smartphones, graphics cards, every product range by Apple... I want one. I'll get one. It's not good value when I already have a PS5 but I'll get enough use out of it over the next 4-5 years to justify the outlay (primary platform, a large backlog, new stuff coming, I play exclusively in performance so will some a benefit in most titles, large tv at a relatively close viewing distance). YMMV.

You can't really blame them for not directly answering it, as the answer is different for everybody. If you want the best possible version of console games for the next few years, then yeah it's probably worth it. It is undeniably expensive, and it's a pisstake that they charge extra for the stand and drive on top of that and didn't bundle in a dual sense edge at least to take away some of the sting. Fuck it though, guess I'm part of the problem now.
Disappointed that Dragon Age seems to have a pretty poor pro patch, as that was next on my list after FF7R

Thought the DF review was fine. They'd have definitely been more emphatic with a recommendation if it was half the price obviously, but at £700-800 that's for the user to decide.
There was a great quote in one of the Eurogamer pieces a while back discussing the price, basically something to the effect of the PS5 being "priced to extract as much money as possible from the people who were always going to buy it anyway", which is pretty much high end consumer electronics in a nutshell.
Absolutely no disrespect to anyone buying one either, I'd join you if it was my main machine.

Sony tax for their most faithful fans. Still waiting for the anti competitive challenge for the Sony digital store, a wait in vain probably. This will add more people to the disgruntled, especially if they don't pay another tax for the disc drive. (they will)

I think this would have been an easier sell, if we didn't have so much cross generation support. They should have bookended the PS4 and gone this is now exclusive to PS5. Then you can move onto PS5 Pro enhanced games. I've always been sold on exclusive games when I buy a console. This generation has been pretty crap for that.

I would usually jump on something that improves games. The PS4pro was a no-brainer for me, mainly as the patches made 60fps realistically achievable. But with performance mode on most releases 60fps on the OG5 is reliable and it seems that PS5pro just ups the visuals a bit. I want it because its new but I can't justify the price to myself.
