Yeah, £450 for the Switch 2 would be insane (at least for a base model). I like to think they'll have learnt their lessons for relatively high launch prices for Wii U and 3DS (when they had to force a price cut to actually get the console to sell, which seems so crazy in hindsight). But this is probably also a part of the reason why it's been delayed so much, they don't want to lose all the Switch momentum by somehow messing up badly yet again.

Something that I think is getting overlooked in the PS5 Pro vs. PC Gaming Rig conversation are things you can't calculate like the stigma of being associated with sweaty virgin PC gamers. I guess with this being the norm You can barely make them out being sweaty virgins.

I'm thinking there's going to be a bunch of generously discounted Switch bundles for Black Friday and into the holiday season to try to sell as much stock as possible (and I don't think Nintendo have given up on the dream of outselling PS2 just yet, either). I don't think we'll see a Switch 2 announcement until very early next year because they're not going to want their new hardware to overshadow potential sales of the Switch's last Christmas.

I'm loving my OLED Switch more and more these days. I'm probably most exicted about a Switch 2 compared to any more playstation stuff. To be honest I'm still disappointed with the PS5 anyway. There just hasn't ever been that proper feeling of making a true generational leap. Not like it's felt every generation prior. This Pro announcement just compounds it. It's more and more like a PC situation really isn't it. It's not console generations any more, you're just gradually buying more powerful consoles to run the same games better, and the odd new one that comes out that's specced higher than the rest.

Stuff like the SSD and higher fps on a majority of titles has felt quite transformative to me this gen, I know PC have had that for a while but as a console only kind of person it all feels refreshing to me.
But graphically I would agree we haven't seen the huge leap we all used to associate with generations.

It's all diminishing returns at this point innit. The days of the jump from SNES to PS1 or PS2 to 360 are gone.

That’s in the same ball park as a steam deck, and judging by rumours that’s around the power levels we’re looking at with the SW 2. It may seems a lot but I don’t think companies can keep or want to keep releasing hardware at severely reduced mark ups. I think consumers are going to have to adjust what a console costs these days. Still, I’m expecting £379.99 - through to £449

They could potentially sweeten the deal with a pack-in of some variety. First 50 orders don't have to pay £50 to upgrade their Switch 1 games to the new hotness.

I genuinely think everything that's released in the last ten years or so still looks bloody amazing anyway. I've peaked. My son gets so pissed off with me playing anything because I'm forever just standing gawping at the graphics. That's why 9 games out of 10 in Hunt I get shot in the head after 5 minutes as I'm gazing at the swamp.

But graphically I would agree we haven't seen the huge leap we all used to associate with generations. Which is a large part of why I’m not that interested. Both PS4 and XO were underpowered on launch and by the mid gen both were struggling to keep up with anything so the upgrades felt necessary. I’ve had XSX and PS5 since launch, both still feel snappy on the UI, loading is fine, frame rates are fine. Unlike last gen I haven’t at any point thought they desperately needed a performance boost. The only time I notice a massive issue is the ten minute load time on Flight Simulator, but I don’t think any amount of GPU boost would fix that.

I don't think the ps4 was that bad tbh, now the OG xbox one is a true underpowered piece of shit that routinely was unable to hit 1080p in most 3rd party games.

This is a genuine question/thought as I have not had a gaming PC since 2020 and that was a pre-build (from 2015). When these 'PS5 Pro' killers (or similar) discuss builds that cost less than a console, why is the purchase of a Windows licence not included? I was pricing up a PC and knew I needed around £110 - £120 for the operating system. What am I doing wrong when I price up a system, or why is it never included in these discussions?

Get a key from a third party for a tenner.
Or buy a legit copy of Windows 10 for £25 and get a free upgrade.
