When GTA6 inevitably releases in 2026, because reasons, we'll see how things are going then. Also, haven't Sony got the marketing tied up for that? Slap "Plays better on Pro" across a couple of images and that will shift a fair few units I imagine.

Monster Hunter next year too. I can see that being big enough to sell a few extra units.

I'd pick up an Xbox series x pro at most prices... Question is whether I buy two! (I have one currently in living room, one in loft office). Are they not doing a mid gen refresh as they want to get the jump on Sony with the biggest generational leap ever seen (their words)? Would love to see something like the jump from PS1 to PS2 or Xbox to 360 but doubt we ever will again.

I was specifically not talking about old games, but you’re welcome. But their marketing pitch specifically covers old games only; their value proposition at this point is literally some car reflections and extra pixels in the background crowd in Ratchet and Clank. They dropped the ball majorly by not hanging something new like Astro Bot in 120fps off this.

I want a 2nd machine to go in my office. I have the VR2, Portal, 2x DualSense Edge, and I’ll probably by a 3rd for the second machine to split between that and the PC in there. I am the target audience, and I would like one for what it offers, but it is crazy expensive and I’m actually not sure I can justify it because it fundamentally doesn’t offer anything that I’m not already getting.

I dunno, this is all very much a case of incredibly diminishing returns and yeah it will shift units to people who think that small return is worth that asking price. I don't think it's going to lead to an explosion of ps5 pro consoles, it will most likely lead to an explosion in base PS5 consoles being sold.

They dropped the ball majorly by not hanging something new like Astro Bot in 120fps off this. They showed Ass Creed Shadows and The Last Descendant (?), but yeah, the reveal is poor for a few reasons. They announced earlier this year that they basically weren’t releasing games this year, and there obviously isn’t much 3rd party ready to show. Not that it matters much, as you can’t see the differences well in a YouTube stream regardless. Astro at 120, while technically cool, isn’t a selling point as it still wouldn’t show on stream. Most people won’t tell the difference over 60fps anyway and there’s no competitive reason like in MP shooters. As I said in convo with Jambo a page or so back, I think we’ll see cool stuff from it once it’s out and there are more real-world examples but the reveal was a damp squib followed by a niche price mark.

I suppose the good thing is that its actually even more annoying when a company releases a V2 that is everything the V1 should have been whereas, apart from arguably the storage, they did hit the target first time with the PS5.
I don't suppose its a terrible thing that the pro looks like a waste of time next to an already good product.

Yeah it was a damp squib when they zoomed in on the crowd shot in Ratchet and Clank, on a shitty YouTube stream. I do wonder who was in charge of that part of marketing and signed off on that thinking this will get them going. So odd.

Microsoft actually told Digital Foundry in their big Series console deep dive at the start of this gen that they didn't think there was scope for mid gen pro versions as there wasn't a pathway that wouldn't make them just really expensive for not much improvement, given where costs and innovation was going. Memory was increasing in price... Smaller silicon not providing same improvements, etc. Which is being proven here...

Is the £700 tag really a surprise, the evidence that people will pay more has been staring us in the face for ages.
Everyone was gobsmacked at the £200 price tag of the DualSense Edge controller, but they’ve flogged 800 in the last month on Amazon, so there are obviously people able and happy to pay for a higher level product.

I do think people are going to be shocked at how much the Switch 2 will cost.

That's probably within my own acceptable price range.
I wonder if Switch 2 will actually have any kind of gimmick this time around or if it'll just be a simple upgrade.

Launch PS4 Pro was a £100 premium over the base console and didn't lose any features. PS5 Pro is £230 and doesn't have the UHD drive. Personally, it was that precedent that shocked me about the Pro price. Until the price reveal of the presentation I was absolutely planning on upgrading but noped out, especially as it doesn't have a drive.

Not to make arguments for or against but purely for perspective Good to see the numbers I pulled out of arse of £900-1000 to build an equivalent PC were about right. Actually a bit over, as he manages to get the better system in that bracket (assuming parity with £/$, which they normally are with PC components). In reality, you are likely better creeping over the grand and getting a x3D processor and an SSD that is a little more future proofed, along with a slightly better motherboard. Good video and very much agree with the conclusion. I'm a PC first player though, so probably biased. If you really didn't like using a PC and you really wanted that couch gaming experience (which you can organise on PC, but it really isn't the same), and you also want those extra frame and shinies then maybe you could justify the £700 on a PS5 Pro. It is definitely really expensive though and certainly not a precedent I would want to have set in the console space.

Yeah, I would think they would want to keep it under the £400 mark. I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason why it seems to be taking forever to be released is because they have been holding off until it can be a bit cheaper to manufacture (plus, the original Switch is still doing well, so why bother?)

Every first party release gets a boost, but you have to buy it again at £59.99. You can play the OG release, with no enhancements. Please understand.

Digital Foundry mentioned recently that the Switch 2 was rumoured to cost $500. Using the magical conversion rate that most companies seem to use, that equals £500.
I'm not saying I believe it'll be that much, but I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if it's £450.

Everyone's talking about GTA6 on the PS6, but none of us have even bought the PS5Pro reissue of GTAV yet.
Do you even capitalism, bro?

I'm not saying I believe it'll be that much, but I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if it's £450. If it is that much, then I could see them wanting to make sure they get a lite version out at launch as well. The Switch is seen as either the family console or the console gamers get as their second system. If it costs as much as the other consoles than it would be a harder sell to those groups. Even the original Switch got a lot of flak for apparently being too expensive (which I always thought was pretty silly).

Something that I think is getting overlooked in the PS5 Pro vs. PC Gaming Rig conversation are things you can't calculate like the stigma of being associated with sweaty virgin PC gamers.
