Amongst all this it's very apparent that PSVR2 is totally dead given what could be a key benefit doesn't warrant even a passing mention.

Crazy how Sony sent that out to die. Felt like they really wanted that VR crowd last gen.

Thing is, after 25 minutes of marvelling at the puddle or the extra two pixels in the tree in the distance, you'll soon not notice one iota of difference. Amazing post, but this is literally my reality as both a Series S and X owner. If I was playing both consoles side by side I would obviously see the difference. However, if I’m switching between the two on different days, I don’t notice thing. If I start messing around with performance settings I might, but I am not that kind of player.

To get the most out of it you need to buy the £1200 PC accessory kit

They didn’t mention it in the reveal stream but they have since, in the CNET article at least.

I play a lot of games with my son with the screens side by side and on nearly all games I notice almost no difference between the s and x. There are some like hunt showdown but most games like the new space marine 2 there are only small differences you have to look for.

Astro Bot is riding high so it's the perfect time to capitilse on that success, show they have a major title on the way in VR (even if it is a remaster, add a few new levels to make it unique). They have a bunch of PS5 grade assets already so a chunk o the work is easier, and it'd help help shift some VR sets.

They just don't want to heavily invest in first party games for it, much like how the Vita was dead in the water after a few years. I will defend the Portal though, as despite being a remote play device, it's very comfortable, works well in my house. And, there was no way Sony would do a PSP/Vita Portal, as like the above, they will not invest in first party titles longer than say.. a year.. two years.

That is genuinely braindead financial analysis, Jesus Christ.

It's a financial success, because scalpers made it sell out briefly!

That’s basically this forum isn’t it? And 99% of feedback here is “lol fuck that”.

I've teetered towards thinking "hmmm, maybe if I sold my launch PS5 now and just give up on my full CD wallet of PS4/5 games..." a couple of times. Then straight back to “lol fuck that”.
I've said it before but I'm exactly who this thing is aimed at, as I jumped straight for the PS4 Pro/One X, but this is just pointless. I might as well slum it out with the base model for the rest of this gen and put my money towards a holiday or something sensible like that.

Maybe I'm wrong but having been 'actively engaged' with the platform since day one, I've been there, done that. I want something new, not old stuff but slightly fancier.

It’s not like new games aren’t releasing monthly, all of which will utilise the Pro in some way. The question then is if you care about having those new games at their top performance, whatever that is, and if the answer is “no” then it isn’t for you. There are people whose answer is “yes”.
It’s the same as people who buy a 4070 or a 4090. For most the 70 is plenty good enough.

Thanks for paraphrasing what I just said, that's super helpful. But, yes, obviously people will buy this. People bought cybertrucks. I just find it a laughably uncompelling product. Yet quite an interesting one in a 'end days of capitalism' kind of way.

So what new stuff is coming out that will specifically 'utilise' the Pro in a sufficiently compelling way to make it worth the asking price?
Edit: forget it, you know as well as I do that nothing you say will make me say 'oh yeah, totally worth it'

I also jump in with both feet most of the time, but even my shiny-addicted brain can't see the point of this at all.

Edit: forget it, you know as well as I do that nothing you say will make me say 'oh yeah, totally worth it' I'd probably stump up for this if it were on the XBOX Series side of things. My PS5 is effectively an ornament at this stage. But I would love to be able to play all the things at 60fps with some of the more advanced raytracing stuff on by default. I find screen space reflections INCREDIBLY distracting, for example. See also unstable shadows. Easily the worst things that crept in during the PS4 generation. I'd pay a premium to leave that shit behind. But even if an XBOX Series XX arrived at £700 I'd have to have a long, hard, think about it. Especially vs. just jumping back to PC again.

Thing is, there was a time when the second half of a console lifetime meant that developers were able to squeeze every powerdrop they could from the damn thing and create great games. Nowadays, console-makers just throw more power at them, what's the point? Does anyone feel that the current gen consoles have offered all they had to offer?

Edit: forget it, you know as well as I do that nothing you say will make me say 'oh yeah, totally worth it' I’m not trying to convince you to buy one, it’s cool. It’s a really simple division for this: you look at it and either think “yeah, I want my games to have that stuff” or “nope, I don’t see the point”. It’s much more akin to Apple-style device/price distinctions, which has not been how the console market has ever really operated before. The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X offered a bump at a price that was still attractive to basically everyone. The PS5 ecosystem is doing it’s hardest to not do that, what with the prices of VR2 and the DualSense Edge, and now this.

I guess this is why people take offense by PS5 Pro's price, they do not want their hobby to turn into this niche, price-gated thing.

I'd pick up an Xbox series x pro at most prices... Question is whether I buy two! (I have one currently in living room, one in loft office).
