I don't think it's anything to do with priority. It's part of the Sony controller design DNA. It's recognisable, and there are as many fans as there are detractors.

Oh I absolutely agree, the design choice is intrinsic with the brand identity at this point. Unfortunately it was a design DNA choice made in the PS1 era when developers were getting to grips with 3d analogue controls. I remember the analogue Dual Shock launched alongside Gran Turismo.
Personal preference does factor in but so too does ergonomics. I find that if I grip any controller, my left thumb tends to naturally place where the analogue stick is on Nintendo/Xbox. It's objectively better.
If Sony change the placement priority then the DS would be absolutely undisputed.

It's not really an issue now the pad is a reasonable amount larger and more ergonomic.
The original PS1, 2, 3 model is fucking horrible for anything with dual analogue control though. Could never ever go back to that thing.

Don't think there's a whole lot of difference between them for me but one thing I hate about the Xbox controller are the plastic face buttons, they wreck the tip of the old thumb after a a decent gaming session.

Something about the angle of the ps5 controller causes some people to get quite severe wrist pain. I'm one of them unfortunately, there is quite a bit out there on the internet covering it. Never had the trouble with the PS4 pad. It's a shame as I think the sticks are better on the ps5 pad than the PS4 one.
I don't get any of the pain with the Xbox and Nintendo pads either.

I've definitely always preferred Xbox pads for comfort and the layout. Although the latest ones seem to be clacky as fuck. Whenever I play my son's Xbox it always annoys me how obnoxiously loud the pad is.

I get joint pain over longer sessions with the Dualshock due to the stick placement - if you put your hands in a sort of holding a controller position and let your fingers relax your thumbs are pretty close to your finger tips, which is why I think the asymmetry of the XBox controllers works better. I think the other aspect is the angle of the outer sides, which was too vertical with the Dualshock, but more angled in the Dualsense which makes it that bit more comfortable to grip for long periods.

It would be amazing if this is an emulator that would let me play my PS2 discs on my PS5. I would pay actual currency for that.

Hahahaha. Nice one centurion, nice one!
They will of course learn from Nintendo and give you an opportunity to buy games you already own of course! If not, I may scour the charity shops!

I don't hate any of the current pads. I really like the dualsense and the XBX pad. Switch Pro is probably my all over favourite for the feel in hand, but the 8bitdo Pro 2 isn't far off, either.
I recently dug out an XB One pad to use with my laptop and noticed that the L/R bumpers felt cheap and awful compared to the new pad. I honestly don't remember them feeling that bad.

Xbox One bumpers were a fucking crime, no idea how they went from being great on the 360 controller to those things.

If this is legit I'm buying all the Burnouts straight away. Maybe some Onimusha games.

Xbox One bumpers were a fucking crime, no idea how they went from being great on the 360 controller to those things. They do seem to be really cheaply made - I’ve had two pads rendered useless due to the R1 bumper breaking (one was replaced under warranty). Shame, as the actual design is good. Just made of awful cheap clacky plastic. Mind you, my launch model DualSense had to be replaced because of a dodgy R2 spring and my Switch joy-cons got terrible stick drift… quality control is definitely not what it used to be. FWIW, I do like the DualSense as a controller - the haptics, triggers and the feel of the thing is really good and comfortable. The DualShock 4 feels every bit the last gen model, and going farther back to a PS3 controller is like the bloody dark ages.

I decided to try and take in my hand placement whilst playing some Elden Ring earlier. I clearly don't use a controller like other people. I expect that it comes from growing up gaming on a PC and always having a hand on camera controls, but I have my right thumb resting on the right stick, not the face buttons.
So, although I can understand an argument for the thumb being nearer the forefinger being the most comfortable, that just means I would want to have both sticks at the top.
So, Wii U controller must be the best!

Wait, is the right thumb not meant to be resting on the right stick? That's where I always have it.

Same, and I've never played keyboard and mouse as far as I can recall (some GBA/DS emulation aside)

I mean, that is where I always thought it was meant to be, but someone above said it is "objectively" better to naturally rest your thumb nearer your forefinger at the top of the pad, hence the asymmetric layout out of the Xbox pad. Unless I'm misunderstanding...

To be fair I'm probably not the best judge for hand positioning as I can't use an xbox controller for more than half an hour without arthritic cramping.
I pretty much have thumbs on thumbsticks and index fingers on L2 and R2 and the other 6 fingers don't get used beyond holding the pad.

Poorly and expensively would be my guess.

There’s so many licensed games for PS2 though. I mean I’d love to play Enter The Matrix and Path of Neo on the service, but seems unlikely.

I would imagine a self contained emulator with the game would work well BUT it depends if they make the same stupid decision and give you the PAL versions like they did with PS1 classic and that was a proper shitshow.

Space Marine 2 just became available for pre-order: £59.99, which is a little surprising.

It having a 6v6 PvP mode is a surprise too. Also a surprise is there's still no bloody remaster of the original game, I've got it on PC but it's weird there's no version that you can currently play on a PS4/5.

I briefly played the original Space Marine’s multi, it was a lot of fun actually. Another way in which Relic nailed it first time around, Saber have a lot to live up to.

If the rumours of a PlayStation event being on the cards for May are accurate, they'll have to announce and hold it within the next week - hardly impossible, but I'm not feeling confident that it'll happen either.

Some rumours flying around about a possible PS5 Astrobot game to be announced soon.
I'd be well up for that, the 3D game and the one for the PS5 are two of the best showcases of their platforms tech.

They've got their answer to Mario with Astro. If they could make a full game to the quality and innovation of the free one it'll be an all-timer.

I’d like a VR2 upgrade for Rescue Mission too.
