Yep. I’m really conflicted about it. I might go back at some point, but I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a game getting in its own way to such a degree.

I had a really good time with it. It's essentially Marvel does Fire Emblem which so if you don't like the aspect of turn based battles interspersed with building relationships with your teammates then it won't be for you. I can't believe I didn't notice the similarities between it and Fire Emblem, it truly is the same game.

I imagine if you're in to that kind of thing and/or are really into Marvel, its great. They just all come off as massive fannies to me.

Had a Portal update the other day, and seems to have resolved some sort of lag I was receiving before. Also Dougs is anyone hammering your network whilst you're playing? Nope. Bar maybe streaming but no massive downloads etc. Not fired it up in a day it two as been away with work.

I have some basic Vodafone broadband and the portal has been smooth on it. The picture quality is nice and I can't see any lag. Though, I have never tried it out of my house.

The actual gameplay in Midnight Suns is so good that it’s one of the few games I’ve actually bothered to finish even in spite of having to spend time taking Wolverine on picnics.

I hate routers/meshes that won't let you split the wireless bands into separate SSID's.
The piece of shit router BT gave us with our 1gbps line is like it. It shouldn't *really* matter of course, the router should intelligently assign the most appropriate band, but half the time it never does.
It permanently assigns the 2.4ghz band to our PC, even though 5ghz is totally viable in that room. Fortunately with Windows you can force the 5ghz band to select in the adapter properties and boom, massively improved network speed. That's not necessarily always an option with every device sadly.

Even with it connected to a 5ghz node in the same room, it's not great. Quite common according to Reddit it seems.

Has anyone actually played immortals of whatever? If so, does it actually have a remotely satisfying story/ending or does it just set up a sequel that will never happen? Sitrep: it does have a fully formed story and conclusion but it’s a bit shit. Every single character is an absolute dickhead. The game itself is also a bit toss. It runs like crap, the controls are terrible and the gunplay is pretty weak. I finished it but it would be an avoid from me, kids.

Dave the diver however is magnificent. Adds stuff at a pace that keeps things interesting the whole way through (as far as I have gotten anyway).
Recommended.

New Metroidvania added today as well that looks interesting. Tales of Kenzera.
Might wait a bit as I've just finished the excellent PoP.

Fair play for actually finishing it, I played some last week or so, the framerate was up and down as you say and it always felt like that game that's a "next gen" game and everyone will forget about it as everyone seemed to do when it was released. I thought the gunplay was actually alright but it just felt a bit messy at times and i couldn't get over the stupid right arm floating on the screen.

It was pretty bad by the end. All the particle effects mean you often couldn’t see what you were doing, you lurch forward when you melee and lose track of where you are and strafing doesn’t work so, all in all, you’re better off standing still and just firing blindly into a crowd.
And with everything being colour coded by the end you have to kill waves of fast moving, shielded enemies with your ‘sniper rifle’ which is as tedious as it sounds.
At some point, someone will try and convince you this is an unfairly overlooked classic but they will be talking bullshit.
All that said….. something got me through the campaign.

Oh, and fuck whoever bound ‘interact with object’ to the same button as the ‘consume finite resource’.

I found the need to have a reload function on a magic spell very irritating. I understand why it was done from the perspective of having your spells function as different gun types but it should have never been implemented I ended up continually pressing reload as the UI was quite poor in relating that information to you.
It's a curious game as it is truly one of the milquetoast games I've played in a while with all the trappings of modern gaming: skill tree, boxes to smash open to collect resources, wearable loot. I applaud it for being a rare single player game but there was nothing in there that would have convinced me to part money to play it, let alone 70 quid.

I can't believe I didn't notice the similarities between it and Fire Emblem, it truly is the same game. Fire Emblem is what I was thinking of when playing it too. I would say that the social game compares closer to FE then the battles do to X-Com, which really are just (very well done) standard card game affairs, just in a fancy 3D engine and some limited positioning elements. I would agree the social stuff does get bogged down in a fair amount of busy work and the parts that are basically mandatory after each battle could all be done in a menu. The balance of time spent with the game should have leaned more towards the battles too, as they were really fun. I like the concept of the Hogwarts bits, but think the execution could have been a lot better. Should really get back to it at some point, as I really was enjoying it.

I finished it but didn't actually do anything on the island other than the mandatory Friendship Is Magic stuff. I only had that one word of power, no secret areas unlocked, none of that content because the main fucking about mechanics are so oppressive I could never be bothered exploring.

One of my pads has stick drift so bad you basically spin around I circles. Before I order another one, are the third party ones worth looking at? Not adverse to spending scuf money if it’s actually worth it.

Don’t think there are any Hall effect sticks on PS5 pads, unless 8bitdo have one? For Scuf money it’d be the dualsense Edge, as the sticks can be replaced if they get really bad, and you get to keep all the features.

The bacon revolution 5 has HE sticks, no idea if it's any good as I haven't read the reviews.

I would definitely buy a bacon pad.
I think I’m going to just get the dualsense. I play a lot of fighting games and a lot of the extra shit is for FPS games. I was uhming and ahing about the Victrix BFG but I would miss the haptics. I’m such a fussy bitch.

Not adverse to spending scuf money if it’s actually worth it. Recently, I got the Razor Wolverine V2 Pro (in black) because I wanted a PS5 pad with Xbox stick placement:
It's been great for me so far -I even regretted getting the Edge Controller beforehand- but my specific requirement for choosing it may not work for you...

I’m kind of done with razer. Everything I’ve had from then has been made out of paper. I’m definitely not dropping 200 quid on a pad just to have it die the day after the warranty expires.

Well, I do hope it doesn't happen to me as well, because the stick placement suits me just fine.
