Yeah, seemed like an odd move for a pro model. In fairness mine has a 1TB SSD in there and both drives are only half full, so I could probably cope with just the default storage if it's not as stingy as the launch console's 825GB before the overhead. Isn't it more like under 700GB for the launch model and 800GB+ for the slim? I've got a launch model and its around 700GB. Which is paltry if you have a few big hitters on your hard drive. A pro model should be geared towards people who want the best of everything, but then Sony love to charge top dollar for add ons...

Is anybody here 'upgrading' their ps5 to a pro model?
Early adopters and enthusiasts that already have a ps5 will probably jump in, maybe the ones that never got the 5 and they've now decided the time is right but Im not sure the masses will follow. I can't see Xbox owners suddenly jumping ship for this better hardware such that it'll grow the ps base.
Also, if they're unable to shave costs off the existing model then surely this is launching at a higher price?
Interesting to see how it all pans out.

Depends on how they price it really. I'm less keen on it than the PS4 Pro/One X, as they both felt necessary at the time. With the PS5 it feels like there's still plenty of untapped potential.

It feels like a much more unnecessary upgrade that the Pro / X that’s going to cost a lot more. Think I’ll probably be ok without.

Doubtful. Unless they start having actual exclusives that I can't play on any other platform, then it isn't a worthwhile purchase. My PS5 barely gets used as it is.
If there were a half dozen+ exclusive games that I want and the pro would be giving 60fps in them as opposed to 30fps of the non-Pro then I would consider it.

I'm a PS5 bumboy and even I'm not arsed about it. Apart from Yakuza and FFVII Rebirth I've been playing a backlog of older PS4/5 games for as long as I can remember, such is the total dearth of new interesting titles.

The return of a 'Pro' console is driving me hard towards returning to PC gaming. I like to have the latest machine as I'm a nerd and a 'collector' (read that as console hoarder) but really splashing out hundreds on a machine and then hundreds more on the mid-gen half step up (I know it's not compulsory to buy them) makes the idea of just going back to PC much more appealing. I see no need for this machine even with my own tendencies to buy each console when they are released and having just read Richard Leadbetter's article on the old place, I'm still not sure I really see the point of it.

Sony's insistence upon releasing 90% of its first-party PS5 games on PS4 as well means I don't feel I've had value for money from my PS5, despite having had it since launch.
I'll probably buy a PS6 when the time comes, but handing over another £500 or so for a mid-gen refresh between now and then? Fuck that.

Maybe it'll run Tloup2 at 120fps if they do a PS5pro patch for the remaster of the PS5 60fps patch.

It’s a much tougher request than PS4 Pro which came when both 4K output and PSVR hit alongside a bigger graphical specs bump. I’m sure Sony will make it work for them in terms of money but I’m not sure that developers will be as keen to latch onto it at the cost of some pretty lousy non-Pro versions as PS4 Pro.

Still feels like this gen hasn't really gotten going yet. Not sure a hardware revision will change that.

I personally feel we're at the stage of gaming where it's small incremental improvements that I barely notice now. Barring a few games mentioned already, there's nothing in the last two and a bit years that I've been "wow, this is next generation shit right here". A pro might get me a few more leaves on a tree or a duck casting a more convincing shadow but that's it as far as I'm concerned. No point for me and my crap eyes.

Looks like we can’t find a use case for the Pro.

Just watching DF's take on it. As usual it's very level headed more so than all these sites that keep saying we're getting GTA 6 at 60fps.

Of course if it launched with a Bloodborne remaster that wasn't available on the base model I'd sell my own penis and buy it immediately, regardless of any doubts.

Oh, man, I hadn't even thought of that!
If all games end up running on base PS5 like Control did on base PS4, 'cause they're all optimised for PS5 Pro, I'll be... well, mightily displeased is what I'll be.
Mightily.
Displeased.

They have half arsed this gen by elongating the PS4's life, never mind launching a PS5 Pro version. The PS5 gen hardly feels started, while it is on the down slope of its life as they described it recently.

For all those people with kids and not much money, the PS4 keeping going is a god send I would have thought and if a few man kids help subsidise that move by Sony by buying unnecessary overpriced top of the range stuff then it’s hard to see the issue.
Mind you, my ps5 is essentially just a fifa machine so it’s easy for me not to care.

They were never going to cut off a massive user base like that immediately. I'm quite happy with the bump the PS5 gave - although I am a bit of a part timer on the thing.

As nice as it would be to not have to spend half an hour pretending I can definitely see the difference between performance and resolution mode when I start a game, I’d only be getting one if mine blows up.

I've bought all of the pro versions of consoles so far but I only use my playstation for Sony exclusives. They have been so slow releasing them this gen that I'm really struggling to justify it.

I'd be somewhat less embittered by the fact that the PS4's ageing, decade-old hardware is still hamstringing PS5 games if Jim Ryan hadn't spouted all that, "we believe in [console] generations" guff back when the PS5 was announced.
