It'll possibly have similar pricing to what happened when the PS4 Pro came out, it comes out for the PS5 launch price. However that also had the PS4 have some permanent price cuts before then while we just keep getting the temporary PS5 ones every few weeks so who really knows. One thing I can guarantee though, Tesco Direct won't accidentally misprice the PS5 Pro like they did the PS4 Pro when they put it on their website at £299.99 rather than £349.99 that I snagged as soon as it went live, Tesco Direct doesn't exist any more. The pricing is going to a weird one seeing as it's holiday 2024 for a release and as you say PS4 had price cuts way before the Pro came out and they just keep increasing the price of the PS5. Unless they are arrogant Sony of the bad old days and just say get a second job if you want a PS5 Pro.

Very happy to say my launch PS5 has been so quiet I sometimes don't realise it's on.

I have officially reached the point in my life where I no longer have any idea what console specs mean.
I’m sure it’s great.

insider-gaming.com/ps5-pro-specs-2024/PS5 Pro leaks Coupled with the rumour that the CPU and RAM are barely improved, the extra Ray-tracing capabilities and PSSR have to be very good to produce noticably different results to the base PS5. As someone who doesn't have a PS5 I'd be tempted to get it if it's less than £500 on release. Its Sony, more likely £799 or something. You know, for such a "premium" product It has PRO in its name and everything after all

Isn't 600 the mental cap for people, as in how much they would be willing to pay? I say this because a PS5 in Europe is like 550 euros I think.

Rat tracing abilities aside those specs are considerably more modest than I was expecting to be honest. Basic rasterisation performance increase is actually less than half what the PS4 Pro managed over the base model, in percentages at least.
Shouldn't be surprised mind you, Sony are already on record as saying that cost reducing the base PS5 is proving tricky so a genuine two to three times leap (or even 5x in the case of the One X) in pure GPU grunt over the base model would likely cost the earth.
Not that this will be cheap mind you, £549-£599 I reckon. Possibly £600+ if the base model prices remain static.

I jumped on the PS4 Pro the moment I got a 4k TV and base PS4 looked shit on it. PS5 Pro? Meh. I'm all about frame rate this gen. Slightly prettier visuals when stood still means fuck all when the image gives migraine due to running at piss poor frame rate during movement.
I flat out refuse to play any game at 30fps anymore. Performance with VRR that hits 50-60 FPS is just peachy for me. Certain games releasing on current gen locked at 30 max will not hit 60 on the Pro as chances are they are CPU bound due to shitty optimisation (looking at you Gotham Knights). Talks are that Dragons Dogma 2 is the same. Won't be touching that with a shitty stick if that has no 60 mode.

Rat tracing abilities aside... Looking forward to seeing the new A Plague Tale on this thing.

The Amiga had HAM so was obviously superior to the ST as it didn't, HAM isn't bacon but it's close.

33 TFLOPS sounds crazy coming from 10. That seems more like a new console generation than a Pro upgrade.

Put alongside the fact they say rendering is only 45% faster suggests (if these figures are accurate) that AMD have worked out a different way to calculate FLOPS in the same way that nvidia did not so long ago which basically doubled all their numbers.

Along with various architecture changes and the like, Nvidia, AMD and the industry in general have been fannying around with how TFLOPS are reported for a while now. The 33 being reported here are not the same as the 10 on the base model. The GPU is only about half as powerful again, not the 3x figure the 33 headline would have you believe.
The general brief here looks to have been enough extra grunt to lift base resolutions on more demanding games to a point where the machine learning shenanigans can do a decent job reconstructing.

As long as Jedi Survivor stops looking like 240p the moment you move the camera it’s a win, in my book.

Indeed people are commenting that it's going to allow for 4k30 games to go to 60. It ain't. A CPU limited game is still going to be CPU limited. At the least the improvement in ray tracing could hopefully lead to more than just RT shadows being the choice.

Does it have an EMOTION ENGINE? Yes, but only initially when you hand over the wad of money they are asking for it

Kind of makes sense really, release the new shiny with minor updates. Put the slim at around 350/380 permanently and offer new shiny for the same cost as the original RRP? 480ish?
Talks of a 600 quid console just ain't going to happen by sounds of it.
Won't piss off the early adopters too much, people on the fence have a choice and people that want the next new thing can trade in old consoles for it but it isn't a must have.

Different architectures so the tflops numbers aren't comparable, the gpu in the PS5 has more in common with the one in the PS4 than the PS5 Pro. The 45% more rendering number gives a better idea of the power difference.

I was considering this then spotted it still only has the shitty 1TB hard drive which equates to around 700GB after the PS5 has sucked a frankly absurd amount of it for the UI etc. Would it really have been that costly to stick a 2TB drive in it?
Fuck Sony

Yeah, seemed like an odd move for a pro model. In fairness mine has a 1TB SSD in there and both drives are only half full, so I could probably cope with just the default storage if it's not as stingy as the launch console's 825GB before the overhead.
Isn't it more like under 700GB for the launch model and 800GB+ for the slim?
