SkillUp wasn't particularly enamored with Ronin.
If Sony thinks it's good enough to be PS5 exclusive, it may as well have its own thread

Leave me alone guys. I just want to objectify the female form.
I wonder if these guys (and let's face it, they're all guys) are actually able to play games which have female protagonists?
It must be tough to complete, say, the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy when you get uncontrollably aroused every time Lara Croft is onscreen.

Hey, give them a break, it's tough playing a game with only one hand on the controller /s

Sadly, I don't think the '/s' was needed.

Did you like NG2 (I think he directed it didn't he)? I completed it but didn't love it. NG is one of my absolute favourites: a game I came so close to giving up and am so glad I didn't. Of course we don't speak about NG3. Same here, NG2 (yes it was Itagaki's) was a good game but not a great one. They did try to up the ante, but fell a bit short. I'm certain most people believe that NG picked with Black and I'm one of them as well. As for NG3, well, let's just say, not good is an understatement... I thought the combat in II was the absolute best a game has ever had, but it got there at the expense of the first game’s interconnected world and Prince of Persia-esque ninja parkour. 1 was the complete package, but 2 had the best moment to moment combat. 3 was terrible on release, but it improved a bit with the Scott Hall Razor’s Edge update. At least mechanically.

It didn't really even work until Sigma. It was pretty janky and the frame rate was absolutely atrocious. The combat was the best of the series, for sure, but only when the game let you do it.

Still can't fathom who thought releasing Ronin on the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2 was a good idea.

Whizzo Same here. The only thing of which I can think is that Sony lacks confidence in the game and is effectively burying it. (Prior to this week, I might've speculated that they believed they had a banger on their hands, and figured it could go toe-to-toe with anything out there; given the tepid previews Ronin has received, though, I sort of doubt that's the case.) I started out the year fully expecting them to delay Rise of the Ronin into April, but it became apparent during the last State of Play that they had no intention of doing so - why announce a late-April release date for Stellar Blade if delaying Ronin, in order to get it out of the way of DD2, is a consideration?

Is DD2 that big a release? I don’t feel like the first one was a particularly mainstream hit. Although maybe I’m wrong.

I don't think it is that big a release off the back of the first but it has a lot of good press on the way in so I think it will outperform the first quite easily and snowball a bit from there.

It also has the goodwill of Capcom just smashing it out of the park for the last 7 years so just seeing Capcom on the box as is were will do a lot of heavy lifting.

The first game fell somewhere between 'cult classic' and 'regular classic' from what I can tell (aided by a last-gen remaster, a Switch port, an MMORPG that only released in Japan, and a Netflix anime series).
Plus, as Jambo said, Capcom haven't released a bad game since... uh, anyone?
It's not nearly as big a release as FF7 Rebirth, say, but I still reckon it's sizeable enough to call into question Sony's decision to release Rise of the Ronin on the exact same day.

Well the vanilla release of SFV was a proper trainwreck, MvCI being super disappointing and their awkward transition in the 360 generation.

I didn’t like Street Fighter 6, personally. 👀
I do think you’re overstating what a juggernaut it is though. There is a chance it hits big due to positive previews and the like, but the first game was absolutely a cult classic that go word of mouth buys much later. I think it only hit 5 or 6 million total over the man rereleases and 12 years since it debuted.
I’m not saying I want it to do poorly because I loved the first and am excited for it, but I don’t think it’s the nail in the coffin for Rise of the Ronin as it’s being depicted.

All I will say is that Monster Hunter was not a mainstream Western series. MHW became their biggest selling game ever.

While I don't see DD2 doing MHW numbers, I'd love it if that happened! What a comeback arc for the Little RPG That Could.

I don't think it will either but it's had way more mainstream exposure than the OG ever had.

Tried a few games on the portal, it’s a nice bit of kit.
Only game with noticeable lag was FC24. Demons souls, Talos principle, Astro’s playroom all seemed ok.

I had a little lag with TLoU Part 2 as well as FC24, but everything else so far has been good.

I’ve been playing through RDR1 via Portal so I don’t have to get up from my desk in between frenetic bursts of ADD med productivity at work, and it’s been flawless. Really saving those burnt calories for me.

Is there a way to switch accounts on portal? My son wanted to play on his account, but even if I log into his account on the ps5 first, it brings me back to mine when I go to remote play. A quick google suggests you need to log out on the portal then reconnect. That’s a stupid way of doing it if it’s the only way.

I'm guessing the increased difficulty will be academic to 99% of the people who choose to equip that outfit - after all, even Dark Souls is a walk in the park if you spend all your time climbing up and down ladders

All masturbation jokes aside, I really hope Stellar Blade turns out to be something more than Fanservice: The Video Game.
If the devs have put as much effort into the combat system as they have the jiggle physics, it could be something special.

insider-gaming.com/ps5-pro-specs-2024/PS5 Pro leaks Coupled with the rumour that the CPU and RAM are barely improved, the extra Ray-tracing capabilities and PSSR have to be very good to produce noticably different results to the base PS5. As someone who doesn't have a PS5 I'd be tempted to get it if it's less than £500 on release.

This is going to be the Pro/X again, a bump in resolution with some extra graphical features and and a more stable 60fps/30fps for games that don't have a tight lock. There are people on Reddit who think it's going to lead from a jump from 30 to 60fps. There can't be a substantial CPU upgrade just because of compatibility reasons with the PS5.
The upscaling solution won't be anywhere near as good as DLSS but I imagine better than FSR. Also why are they still bandying 8K around when no one is using that. It just feels like an advert for GTA 6 when it comes around.

It'll possibly have similar pricing to what happened when the PS4 Pro came out, it comes out for the PS5 launch price. However that also had the PS4 have some permanent price cuts before then while we just keep getting the temporary PS5 ones every few weeks so who really knows.
One thing I can guarantee though, Tesco Direct won't accidentally misprice the PS5 Pro like they did the PS4 Pro when they put it on their website at £299.99 rather than £349.99 that I snagged as soon as it went live, Tesco Direct doesn't exist any more.
