I dunno, this is more like the kind of console exclusives I like to see. If there's one thing that's become abundantly clear recently it's that massive super-budget games aren't working, and publishing/dev support is something that Sony should be going back to in order to enrich their system's game library - stuff like Bloodborne.

It's just a reminder how underwhelming this generation has been so far tbh. I'm still looking for something that gives me the Demon's Souls remake "wow" factor. Yep. That was such a strong start too, along with Returnal a few months later. Ratchet and Clank looks great but the game does nothing for me. Spiderman, Kena (greatest game of all time) and Final Fantasy 7 are impressive too, but that's a short list. I love my PS5, and I've probably never had access to so many great games overall, but I do miss the more regular bangers. Oh yeah, Returnal as well. I mean I know some of it is due to getting used to how good these games are looking but I don't think so. The fact that I can sometimes fire up a PS4 game and it looks just as good, if not better than a newer PS5 game by a similar calibre of studio means I'm not really blown away much by anything.

My current issue is that absolute lack of variety on Sony's end in 1st party terms, I think of Sony back in the day who did some stuff that wasn't always a million copy seller but it was different a bit experimental that sort of thing. Microsoft while not exactly setting the world on fire are quite broad and eclectic in their content but the quality has been somewhat lacking.

It was most egregious in Wild Hearts. Surely they must have made some money to sort their shit out in that regard. It had escaped me that Wild Hearts was developed my Team Ninja...
As for Rise of the Ronin, we have it on PSN pre-order, so that kind of settles the Ronin or Dogma 2 debate in our household for the time being; have no doubt that DD2 will be the better game (still have Arisen in the pile of shame), but chances are me and JuniorFE would play Ronin to the end first...
There's also mention on some accessibility options present in Ronin, in case it hasn't been mentioned (skipped over to the end).

It was Omega Force, but I guess that's academic in terms of the engine used - they're both Koei Tecmo subsidiaries, after all.

Maybe its not everyone's cup of tea but it is a very accomplished game which is fun. Demon's Souls was good, I enjoyed the upgraded stuff with the visuals and sounds but it really is an old game and to be honest, I wouldn't say it was visually mind blowing just a very good remaster. It's a bit like the music/film industry at the moment. Very hard to get a fresh new IP/Game/Band/Film these days.

I actually think that Stellar Blade has more validity (for want of a better term) than Ronin, in terms of buying third-party exclusivity - the developer is inexperienced when it comes to working with consoles, and could use Sony's help in that regard, plus the game fits into a genre that has all but vanished from the current AAA landscape. Ronin, by contrast, is coming from a well-established developer; moreover, as an open-world RPG, it's about as generic as AAA games come nowadays.
Of course, this is purely hypothetical! Maybe Stellar Blade will have nothing more to offer than jiggle physics, and Ronin will prove to be the better game when all is said and done.

Speaking of Stellar Blade, I'm assuming the demo will be reuploaded sometime this week - it'd be pretty weird of Sony to put it out next week, when they're supposed to be hyping up Rise of the Ronin.

I'm with you there - I loved the combat in Wo Long (more so than the Niohs, to be honest), but everything else about it was a step backwards. The mission-based structure of those games was a big plus for me, so I was always somewhat put off by Ronin's move to an open-world format; combined with everything we learned yesterday, I reckon it's gonna be 'deep sale' territory for me. I’m the opposite. I hate the mission structure of the Nioh games. I want a big land to explore. I want an RPG with good combat, not an action game with stats.

Fair enough, good sir.
I'm just burned out on open-world games in general, so having a more linear experience made for a great change of pace.

And I can agree with that generally, but if it’s going to be a linear action game, I feel like it’s better to go full Ninja Gaiden in its depth rather than the current Souls-lite they’ve been doing. If it’s Souls vs Way of the Samurai, I want WotS.

Probably wishful thinking on my part, but I'd love a new Ninja Gaiden game.
That's why I can't help but be excited for Stellar Blade, despite 95% of the discourse around it involving boobs and butts - most of the AAA heavy hitters in the hack and slash genre have been abandoned (Ninja Gaiden), are resting (Devil May Cry), are stuck on one platform (Bayonetta), or have been retooled as RPGs (God of War). I just want a straight-up 'character action' game, dammit!

i think the only reason you’re reading that (in regards to Stellar Blade) is because you read push square, tbh. The game looks great. Like NieR Automata with good graphics.

Does it actually look decent then? I thought it looked a bit shit when I first saw it revealed, have I been a bit too fast to judge it?

As someone who was in the firmware beta and pretty much noticed nothing much that's really changed as I don't use the controller's microphone and speaker for voice chat it's all a bit meh really.
However as someone who does have the controller speaker on in games as I quite like it for some things I suggest everyone who updates today and also uses it, is to go straight to the sound settings on the dashboard and cut the controller speaker volume in half.
I hadn't realised how much louder it can be now and fired up Resogun soon after installing the beta, I think everyone in my road was given the order to "SAVE THE LAST HUMANS" as it was fucking loud.

It definitely looks like it has potential to be good. Very strong Nier Automata vibes from any gameplay I've seen.
100% a case of wait for reviews though (preferably from somewhere other than Push Square...)

I wonder when the Stellar Blade demo is properly going to be released? Those who managed to get it early by accident seemed to be positive about it. Nice to see Eve can wear more sensible clothes too.

Any new hack and slash game that gets announced will immediately pique my interest, so in that sense I'm somewhat biased.
I think it looks good, though (and the gameplay footage from last week's demo made me more excited, rather than less).

Most of the posters on the game's subreddit seem to think it'll come out in early April.
I'm still holding out hope for this week, though - even if they'd originally planned to put the demo out next month, the premature release might make them change their plans. (I assume they'd rather have eager PS5 owners play it for themselves than watch footage on YouTube!)
If it doesn't happen this week, I reckon we can forget about it until April... unless Sony cares so little about Rise of the Ronin that they'd be willing to undercut it further still, by putting out the Stellar Blade demo during Ronin's release window.

Probably wishful thinking on my part, but I'd love a new Ninja Gaiden game. Normally I would agree with you, however, in this case, I'd be onboard if Tomonobu Itagaki was at the helm of this new NG game, as I don't really enjoyed the games that were not directed by him.
I realise he's a troubling figure and has not directed anything of value since leaving Team Ninja, but, what can I say, NG is not the same without him, IMHO...

Did you like NG2 (I think he directed it didn't he)? I completed it but didn't love it. NG is one of my absolute favourites: a game I came so close to giving up and am so glad I didn't. Of course we don't speak about NG3.

I'm certain most people believe that NG picked with Black and I'm one of them as well. As for NG3, well, let's just say, not good is an understatement...

NG2 had an incredible combat engine trapped in a so-so game.
