Ah, motherfuckers. Didn't think about the portal. Assume that doesn't support BT natively either?! Nope. Just PS Link. I’m fairly sure the tech will soon be integrated into the next gen of 3rd party headphones so might be worth hanging on a bit.

It might not be a big deal but the vanilla Pulse don’t have PlayStation Link, which is the tech the Portal uses. Only the newer Elite and Explore ones have it. It’s quite likely this will be the tech future PlayStations have so there’s a minor future proofing issue with the OG Pulse. And also they don’t work with the Portal if that’s on your radar. I use the Inzone's (connected to the PS5 as usual) with the Portal. I think there may be a distance limitation but it works fine for me within the apartment.

That’s not a great solution. It’ll be quite limited in range and you’ll get sound lag. I attempted this when I got my Portal and it’s a no go.

It is around 4 hours later. I am stuck in an endless rabbit hole of insane audiophile wired headphone recommendations, very close to blowing far more money than I was originally going to on those Pulse things. Send help. The amp in the controller isn't great, and won't properly power any high impedance headphones. It's a lot better than the PS4 controller in that regard, and something with a lower impedance will work and give a decent result, but you won't be getting the best out of expensive headphones going that route.

Forgot there is a 3.5mm jack on my Anker Soundcore set, so crisis averted, I can just use those...phew.

Then you've also got the problem of your partner going mental, because the adaptive triggers are making a noise. CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK.

Quite shitty of Sony to do that and then release more PS5 tech they don’t work with. The Elite and Explore should really have been the day one options.

I'm actually using the OG pulse with the Portal as I'm never far enough away from the PS5 to lose the link from the Pulse's dongle. So I just mute the sound on the Portal when using the headset and it's absolutely fine. No discernable sound lag as far as my pea brain can comprehend.

Ah see that was my original plan as I'll be close enough to the PS5 most of the time. will double check how that goes later, but at least if I want to go elsewhere in the house I have a wired option too, so all good.

You can test the lag by just having the TV on as well. You’ll hear the sound lag.

Yeah I've tried and it's pretty much spot on. I always notice on lip syncing too usually but if there is a delay it's so negligible I can't pick it up.

Ugh - Cowboy was not impressed.
- Dated open-world design, lifeless setting - Mediocre graphics, bland aesthetic - Not as good as the games that inspired it (Ghost of Tsushima, Sekiro, Elden Ring) - Watered-down combat compared to the Niohs and Wo Long - Same loot system as previous Team Ninja titles - Doesn't feel like a PS5 exclusive - Restrictive co-op

From a visual and artistic perspective it always looked like a PS4 game, a drab one at that too.

Yup, I agree (although Nioh 2 was *actually* a PS4 game, and I think it looked much prettier than Ronin does).
Other outlets were a bit more positive than FightinCowboy, but only slightly.
Minor caveat: this is all based upon the first two hours of the game. Probably a forlorn hope that it leaps up in quality thereafter!

(Caveat: I didn't actually watch the video, I wanna go in as blind as possible) Tbh if I was basing my opinion of, say, Nioh on just the first two hours or so, I dunno how positive I'd be either... They're still pretty good, but a lot of the mechanics and equipment/skill options are mostly locked away, the rest can still feel complicated because you're still getting used to them, most of the annoying roadblock bosses (Yatsu, Umi-bozu, even Hino-Enma and Enenra) are early on, and they are that bad in part because you don't have that many options... They're a tougher sell than you'd expect looking back after you've done at least one NG, even if they're awesome games on the whole. Based on my experiences, an "only decent" Team Ninja game is basically like an only decent [insert your favourite food here] for me for the most part; I'd still pick it over a good few other choices. Fingers crossed this doesn't turn into a case of famous last words

I don’t like From games or Tsushima, I do like Team Ninja games. I’m already in without needing any videos.

I hope you're right, Junior, but I'm still a tad deflated by what I've seen and read this evening.
Oh, well!
Not long to wait until full reviews come out, followed in short order by the game itself - we'll soon know what's what.

Yeah just watched cowboys video and… yeah. I’m still going dragons dogma over this. Like him, Nioh 2 is my favourite non From souls like. There’s just nothing new here. Everything it does looks to have been done better in other games. I’m not a graphics whore either but, well, it’s not that nice looking is it. Check the horrendous tiled textures visible in the glider parts of the video. The world looks lifeless.
Nioh 3 and I would have jumped right in. Instead we get the inferior Wo Long and now this ☹️

I'm definitely going with Dragon's Dogma first; whether or not I get Ronin afterwards will depend upon how the latter looks to me once it's out, but I'd be lying if I claimed to felt positive after everything Cowboy had to say. (Okay, it's just one guy's opinion, but said guy really knows his stuff when it comes to Soulslikes and Team Ninja games.)

Thing is, I still think Ronin will be getting down the line at some point as despite everything, I think the combat will feel great. It just doesn’t look like a must buy just now, which is a shame.

The person from vg24/7 (who is a huge nioh fan) really wasn't keen. Said it felt more like a far cry icon bloat box ticking game. Said the combat is as good as ever but gets quite lost in all the unnecessary crap.
