What’s the general forum consensus on the Pulse headset? Decent set of cans for the PS5? It’s my go to on the PS5, but I’d only rate it 6 or 7/10. Main issues for me are the slightly too small cans making it uncomfortable after 20 minutes, and the retrograde controls. I have a similarly priced pair on the Xbox where the right can can be twisted to control volume and the left to control balance between speech and game audio. That’s the gold standard for me. Ergonomics aside, the sound quality and 3D audio are both good. If the above doesn’t put you off, you’ll find ‘em fine.

There's a new version of them as well isn't there? If anyone has them I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I’m the opposite of phattso, where I think the sound is a 6 or 7 but find the comfort there. Much more comfortable than the Platinum headset I had for PS4, which always hurt the top of my head. But the sound on those was much better.

I have the Pulse Explore earbuds and they’re fantastic.

Woof. Just had a look at those, but 200 quid’s a fair old splash.
75 quid for the headset doesn’t seem too bad.

I had a pair but sent them back. My fault, really. They are fine for the price, I suppose but I have even fairly cheap headphones that beat the shit out of them just plugged into the pad. They weren’t super comfortable and the sound is barely average but you get what you pay for and I can’t imagine you’d get a better wireless set for the money.

I think that’s fair. I didn’t want to pay very much and I also wanted wireless. If that’s your criteria then they’re good. Build quality is good in my opinion, as others have said sound is fine.
You do indeed get what you pay for, and I’m happy with them.

I also find them pretty comfy but have a very small head.

Christ I’m simple. I’d never even thought of plugging in headphones to the controller. I was thinking I’d need to trail a wire across the living room.

I don’t like to kick a man while he’s down but you could do it on the PS4, too. And the Xbox if you have one, which makes them a better bet as 3.5mm jacks are obviously platform agnostic.

Even Roku remotes have a headphone socket as well.

I have my X4s plugged in but I swear they drain the battery on the controller 100x faster.

I have my X4s plugged in but I swear they drain the battery on the controller 100x faster. Yeah I use my xm4's too. Haven't noticed any greater drain. Still wish I could pair a Sony product with another Sony product.

It is around 4 hours later.
I am stuck in an endless rabbit hole of insane audiophile wired headphone recommendations, very close to blowing far more money than I was originally going to on those Pulse things.
Send help.

I have the Sony Inzone H7s. They look like workman ear protectors but I much prefer them to the Pulse. Sound good and really, really comfortable. And they have all the Sony compatibility so work well.

I got the pulse ones free. They’re fine but I wouldn’t bother when any other headphones you already have will be a lot better.
The controls are appalling too. It takes me far longer to find the on off button than it should every single time.

The on/off button is definitely not the finest bit of design. I like mine but having a big heed, I can't wear them for extended periods. I don't really need to either tbh, so all good for the price

Do you already own a pair of half decent headphones? Yes - do not buy pulse headset.
Do you want to spend more than £70 on a wireless headset? Yes - do not buy pulse headset.
Do you have a massive head and/or humungous sausage hands? Yes - do not buy a pulse headset.
I think I'll pick up the H7s as my second set. My partner and I like to watch loud movies with headphones and I was going to get another Pulse for that purpose, but her head is waaaaaay bigger than mine.
I would be interested to see what comparatively priced wireless headphones are better.

I have the Pulse headset, but I have to use it wired as I managed to break the dongle a few years back and you can't just buy a new one as they are uniquely tied to each headset :/

Its the connection though, right? That's where they get ya. I mean, for the same price you could pick up some Anker Soundcore that would batter the Sonys, you just wouldn't be able to connect them to the PS5 for some fuckheaded reason.

I've found the Pulse pretty much fine to be honest as a secondary sound source if I want to play but others are in the room. Played with it on for hours online without discomfort. Not sure if it would grate if I had to wear them all the time but I don't think I'd like using any headset to provide all of my sound.

I really shouldn't but that me snort in the barbers really loudly. I luckily don't have a giant head but having chemo enabled me to discover I have a peanut shaped head.

I like the Pulse headset, I wouldn't say it is good as something like a Bose but I find them very good for 360 sound compared to just stereo. They are fairly comfortable as well. The buttons do take a bit of getting used too but I certainly don't regret getting them.
I've been using the Discord app when playing with PC chums on Helldivers and it is crystal clear audio.

It might not be a big deal but the vanilla Pulse don’t have PlayStation Link, which is the tech the Portal uses. Only the newer Elite and Explore ones have it.
It’s quite likely this will be the tech future PlayStations have so there’s a minor future proofing issue with the OG Pulse. And also they don’t work with the Portal if that’s on your radar.

Ah, motherfuckers. Didn't think about the portal. Assume that doesn't support BT natively either?!
