I've been tempted to get Doom Eternal in the current PSN sale, but I keep seeing such mixed reactions to it which is disappointing. I loved Doom 2016, it was great fun and a brilliant take on an old formula. For those that have played it, what is it that is so disliked about Eternal? Plus, is the DLC worth paying extra for if I do get it?
Also in the current sale that interest me are the Dishonored games, at only a few quid each. I haven't properly played any of them before, other than a few hours of the original years ago on the 360. Any recommendations for these? I enjoyed Arkane's take on Prey if that helps. The only downside is they don't appear to be 60fps on the PS5, unlike the Series X.

It's mainly the stupid platforming parts they shoe horned in. Some are incredibly frustrating and it ruins the flow of the game.

It's a more stripped back pure shooter. I still probably prefer Doom 16 but in the end I did really enjoy Eternal, so much so I ran through it again on Nightmare. It's got a lot of new systems that you need to be familiar with to play it well, and things don't really click properly until you get all the weapons. The platforming is annoying and one of the new enemies tends to annoy people, but I didn't find him as hateful as a lot of people did. Also the DLC is 90s-esque "let's just make this as hard as possible lol" so if you don't like the main game it's absolutely not worth it. I'm glad I played it but I probably wouldn't play the DLC again.

Ah cheers Ork (and addy), that's some useful info. Seems weird they'd add a lot of platforming elements to a Doom game.
Gonna have to think about that one then, as I did love the purity of the punchy fps action of Doom '16.

The story bits, platforming and a certain enemy type are the main critiscims. I didn't mind the first 2 and found it as satisfying as Doom 16 at the shoot bits.
It's a good game.

Rodderz, the Dishonored games are fantastic. If you like that Deus Ex type game design where you have a large contained level with a lot of multiple paths and options then you will probably enjoy them. The consequence system is one of the best I’ve experienced in a game, you really see your impact on the world. Worth a punt In my opinion.

I don't know how these passed me by, I must have been playing other stuff at the time they were released and whoosh, years go by. Is the Death of the Outsider one worth it, or just the first two main games? Many thanks for the input Lionheart.

Rodderz No worries! I’d say if you enjoy the main games the DLCs are worth playing. The two for the original Dishonored are very good and provide a decent complement to the main game and story. I’ve not played the Death of the Outsider (ashamedly!) but I think it will be similar to the DLC for the first game in being a decent expansion that mixes things up a bit.

Any tips for getting hold of the damn thing? Google just throws up the usual Express links and whatnot, and preorders don't seem to be a thing

Already completed HZD on the PS4 and then got the complete edition as part of Sonys stay at home giveaway.
Obviously a long time has past since I last played it and just couldn't click with the DLC. Felt like I needed to replay the whole thing from the beginning as some sort of training session and unfortunately I don't have the time for that.

Yeah, I've loaded up HZD a few times with the intention of playing through the DLC, but just give up after a few minutes. I might just start a new game and play until I'm a bit more familiar with the controls, then load up my old save and jump into the DLC.

So I guess Uncharted 4 is now the only major first-party PS4 game not to get a 60fps patch? Surely it will get one at some point.

A disc got stuck in my PS5 drive earlier; kept spinning, rattling and clicking until I finally shut it down. Had to follow the instructions on Sony's support page to manually eject it.
Tried a different disc and it seems to be working fine again now. Doesn't fill me with confidence though!

Is this a good place to talk about PSN sales?
I may have gone a little bit overboard, but this has been a really good month for sales i think... especially when Artifex Mundi games are something of a guilty pleasure of yours. I must have bought ten of them, and most for under £2.50!
I also picked up Caveman Warriors for about £2, Bit Trip Runner2 and Runner3, Out of the Box (which is a bit like Paper's Please, only you're deciding who to let into a gangster-owned night club), and a few more.

This is probably controversial, but I preferred Lost Legacy anyway.

Well, it's markedly different in tone to the other Uncharteds, a lot more story-heavy with the multiple flashbacks and it all basically being homage/wrap up/flesh out/look back/I'm running out of descriptives here. I haven't played Lost Legacy, I will sometime, but I gather it's more regular Uncharted with the bants and the offhand murder left uncommented.

Lost Legacy is structured differently to all the other games. It's more open world and works really well.

I also think it's paced better, because it's shorter. I find that with a lot of Naughty Dog games when they release dlc/expansions

I played Lost Legacy and I can barely remember a thing about it, other than who the two main characters are.
