The cheapest non-deal way of getting it is credit from somewhere like shopto. They sell (or at least used to) the exact amount needed for a year for like a tenner less or something.

Just realised both my PS plus and game pass both expire in the next couple of weeks. Need to think "How much do I care?"

I never got on with the Resistance games either. Remember buying a PS3 at launch with a copy of the original and booting it up expecting big things and well... Didn't help that the 360 had been out for about 17 months at that stage and we'd already seen the likes of Gears of War etc. PS3 launch in a nutshell for me. I had the exact same experience with that game. A mate brought his launch PS3 round to show me. I know it's a bit of a trope of the misinformed to say "this could have been done on last gen" during the launch window, but that was my genuine reaction. Having just gone back to a YouTube gameplay video it goes without saying there's no way a PS2 could handle it, but my God where is all the colour. What was everyone's big problem with colour at this time?! By the way. If you want to feel old. The main YouTube gameplay video's comment section is full of people saying "I remember this game from when I was a kid!"

It did take them until the third game to resolve a lot of issues. The story, gameplay was immense. But those could be rose tinted..I did platinum it, so it must have been somewhat good.

That was still the era of PlayStation desperately trying to have an equivalent to Halo. And mostly failing.

I remember playing Haze at some games show and seriously wondering how PlayStation and Free Radical could think it was a competitor to Halo. I guess they're both four letter words beginning with "H" so there is that but the game itself was clearly not on the same level.
The concept of it was interesting though, with soldiers being dosed up on drugs so what they think they're seeing and what is really happening are quite different. Bit "Spec Ops: The Line" but years earlier.

Speaking of Free Radical. Did anyone play TimeSplitters 2 on Homefront: The Revolution?

The central idea is an absolute cracker. Standard FPS grunt drugged up to make everything look like a video game and make him fine with killing innocent people. It’s just a shame it was executed in the most half arsed way possible.

I've been working out how not to pay 70 nicker for Rise of the Ronin - I normally would get the Japanese version as the price works out to about 50 pounds right now but it's rated Z so I'd need a local credit card, and I nearly bought it on disc but you've saved me from having to deal with that. Thanks!

If buying PSN from Currys they can take a couple of hours to actually turn up, worth it for the odd bargain they do on it though but if you're in a hurry (say a sale is about to expire) you're probably better off with ShopTo as they deliver in a few minutes.

I'm used to that - Amazon Japan usually hang about for a couple of hours too. The game's not out for another month so I've got plenty of time!

Thanks! I'm sure you already know but with the Z rating is it likely to also have cut content? I picked up Baldurs Gate 3 whilst on a recent trip to Japan as I'd not seen it on disc before other than an expensive limited edition one and then read that some of the death animations have been cut.

The Z rated version is confirmed by Sony on the PS Blog as having the same content/visuals as the overseas version, but it doesn't say what they're cutting back in the D rated version. I'm guessing it's dismemberment of people since it's a game about fighting people with sharp swords.
Nioh 2 was a game by the same team published by Sony and that had the Japanese text in all versions so I'm fairly confident I can get it on my UK account and still be able to play fully in Japanese.

Question for the Portal users. Do you set the PS5 to 1080p mode manually?

It's "weird" how all the statements that get released from senior management about layoffs never seem to talk about how said senior management whose decision making led them into this position in the first place are going to be held accountable.
"Dear employees, because I'm an epic, overpaid fuckup, I made a lot of really shit decisions that any moron could have told you were stupid during Covid, such as assuming the growth that we saw during that period would be completely infinite. Oopsie! Looks like you're all of a job because otherwise I won't be able to afford a new Ferrari, and it's not like you can get rid of me, the problem".

What's funny as well about this Sony lay off, is that my mate went to a send off for Jim Ryan on Friday. He sent me a photo of him next to him... yeah surely he knew what was coming. Fucking execs man.

Yeah, I mentioned this to my colleagues as well as we always take notice of other redundancies. I said it was particularly galling to see people sharing photos of him a few days ago where he's all smirking when he knows he's about to put them all out of a fucking job.

Yeah really sticks the knife in that does. My mate said he'd know more by about half 4 apparently. He's not on the game dev department.

Do you think this was also a planned closure regardless of the typical reason of overhiring during Covid? I mean closing an entire studio is something else.
