Digital needs to always be cheaper, tho thirds the cost at absolute maximum. Why? Because you do not permanently own the item you are purchasing? It’s like leasing a property rather than buying it? Freehold please!

I wonder how the cost/benefit analysis looked for Sony.
Given the affected content, I can't imagine it would have been a huge issue for Sony to pay up and take a small hit to keep the licenses for their customers. Now they're in a situation where they've said to all future customers that you can lose access at a moments notice to the shows you paid for. Who would buy TV shows from Sony knowing that?
It also seems absurd that they didn't negotiate longer licences.
If Google did this for the small number of movies I bought from them, I wouldn't buy from them ever again.

If you want to get into the nitty gritty of it you don’t actually own physical media either from a legal point of view - you own a physical product that has a digital copy you’re licensed to use, and that license could be revoked at any time (albeit very rarely actually enforceable.) I know that’s mostly semantics, but the distinction is whether you care about the letter of the law or the moral stance. Download a cracked ISO or an mp4 and store copies wherever you’d like, it’s not really a big deal.

Always wondered how a studio would enforce home use copyright on an oil rig.

To be fair I fully get that it’s a sucky thing and that digital preservation is important in the grand scheme, but I also find it really hard to care. If I were to lose access to season 6 of Ice Road Truckers I bought for a tenner seven years ago and can only watch specifically on a PlayStation, my level of care would be the same of giving a shit about what ecosse is up to nowadays.

First they came for Gary Fuckface and I said nothing then they came for game preservation...

Everyone else missed it, but, indeed- the physical item has value over and above the content, digital none whatsoever. Used to regularly play a game and get somewhere between a quarter and half of its cost back selling it when finished.

Remember when they said they'd give us a way to trade digital games second hand and then they just... didn't?

Sorry can’t take that. There’s a scratch on your digital content.

They just couldn't work out an effective way for a single pube to be included with a second-hand digital copy.

For me, thats why I always felt digital should be cheaper than physical. Youre stuck with digital and has no inherent value once youve bought it other than to sell your whole account. Not their problem but it always *felt* digital was less valuable.

Managed to download Mafia II last night with minutes to spare and my 50 star points popped.
It was edge of the seat stuff, I can tell you.

Apposite, ten years ago I could still chuck a disc in. That game was more valuable.

Looks like select accounts are being offered a discount on PS Extra/Premium. £69.99 for Extra. £83.99 for Premium.

This is in regards to the PS5 Pro, which is to be unveiled around September 24 apparently. Seen some of the leaked specs, it's definitely a smaller jump than the PS4 to the Pro.
I still don't know if this is the right move really but I guess Sony know what they're doing. This is going to be a lot of work for Devs who aren't first party making 4 versions as well as making you wonder just how much is this going to retail for.

Yeah, seems a bit nuts. Last gen it made sense as both consoles were underspecced from the start. This gen devs are just getting into the stride of what they can get out of them, and series S aside, just don't have the kind of bottlenecks we had before.
I'll be hanging onto my money, and that's coming from someone who had a PS4 Pro and a One X.

I basically only use my PS5 to play rocket league, Worms WMD and poker every Thursday night with a group of old friends. So of course I'll upgrade day one :-)

My suspicion is that because there was so much difficulty in getting enough PS5s made until fairly recently, they’ve realised this is their first big Christmas, and so it probably makes sense to get the Pro out now so that first time buyers have the option, otherwise they will be unlikely to upgrade for another 2/3 years.

I don't know, graphics tech is pretty scalable, if it's third party, it's probably being developed for PC as well so higher settings will already have been catered too. If it's just a case of tweaking graphics settings I can't see it being too much of a hardship for developers.

It's not about just tweaking it's the extra work involved in making sure all of them work, especially when you factor in Series S already being a lot of work its not just a case of changing some switches.

I doubt this will be a problem though, as it wasn’t last gen. The problem will remain the Series S.

I'll happily part exchange my PS5 for the Pro, I did something similar last time with the PS4 and paid about £150 on top I think. Could be wrong about that price though.

It's my go-to method as realistically will only use one console so may as well do the part exchange which makes the purchase feel more like a digestible"upgrade fee". PS3>4>Pro>5>Pro. Especially great in the era of digital back compatibility too. Plus, can't be sat around thinking I could be using a (slightly) faster machine.
