I would pre-order one if valve had Half Life: Alyx ported or Sony made the PSVR2 PC compatible, but the first is just a potential possibility and the later is probably not in Sony's best interest (due to no share from games sold on PC) or even possible (due to USB-C).

Anyone on here ordered one? I pre ordered and cancelled a couple of times but can’t quite commit to it. As someone newish to VR, the launch line up and tech seems really cool. A lot to mess around with.. Just got concerns about Vr long term and reports like that don’t really help confidence in purchasing one. Vr seems to be in a make or break moment right now. Browsing resetera just now and Sony have denied the report. Which i guess they would do, but it’s a lot of money to put on something that might have meagre support.

I have one ordered. I enjoyed the first enough to go in on this one but I know what I’m getting into. A console headset will always have a shorter lifespan that a PC equiv due to the nature of console cycles but the PS5 is my main platform so I’m fine with it. And it’ll be supported by dev teams because it expands their market reach. The only real question is how much Sony put into it long term - I imagine that short term they have a handful of things on the way that will see release regardless.
I do think it’ll likely be the last one I get though, I think if I buy another it’ll be a PC set-up.

I think not having backwards compatibility didn't help.

Looks like they've just halfed the shipments due to poor preorder numbers. There is no way I could be a marketing whizz kid at anywhere near the level of the entire departments Sony has dedicated to it, but, and hear me out, please, I think perhaps Sony should have talked about it???

Lack of BC was the killer for me with PSVR2. Was all in on PSVR1 and spent a small fortune on mostly digital games. All of which I lose access to with PSVR2, other than a couple which I would have to re buy at full price. I'd use my PSVR more on my pS5 but again, it only works with a Dualshock 4 which I no longer own as I sold my PS4 to buy my PS5.
If even half my library ported over I think I'd be getting a PSVR2 day one but as it is they can get fucked, don't want to risk another few hundred quid of software being no longer supported when and if PSVR3 comes out.

I don’t think BC will be much of an issue going forward. PSVR was massively behind the curve in terms of input devices, and that’s all rectified this time around. I reckon 3 will be wireless and everything will carry forward.

Yeah I’ve ordered one. Gt7 twisted my arm so I hope that’s good. I had the first one and it became just a thing to show off to guests before selling it . I hope the clarity of this one is better and better games rather than just short experiences

Cost as sale from me and many others who would have otherwise invested. Halving their sales projections may be an indicator that there'll be no PSVR3 anyway.

Sony have denied the Bloomberg report. Which you would expect them to do as it’s quite a damaging headline. Truth probably lies halfway between.

Can’t help but feel it’s going to be an underwhelming flop, and I say that as someone who likes VR. They haven’t exactly gone out on a limb with their PR campaign for it.

Was there much hype with the first one?

I think the difference is that Sony didn't act like the product they were selling didn't exist.

It’s just way too expensive. I never imagined it would be more than the console itself. Has there ever been a peripheral that cost more than the console launch price before?
PS5 launched at $750 here. PSVR2 is $880, though the console is now $800 iirc.

I pre-ordered. Had a Oculus Rift CV1 and have seen nothing that really says 'next gen'other than the PSVR2. It's a good price given the tech and the software lineup looks solid.

What marketing is missing from this one? I know about it through websites, obv., but I don't have tv channels or anything so I don't know what they are/aren't doing. Same situ with the first one too, so I've no idea how good it was/wasn't last time.

If it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't know it existed let alone being out soon.

I think its also partly them being a japanese company and bad at the internet/business generally. If you could buy hardware through the PS Store, they could have put it front and center on the main page every day since it was announced.

I feel as though I've been reading about this for a while and there have been quite a few features on gaming sites regards some of the games (Horizon for example) but even so, I don't think I knew it was out soon. Then again, I don't think I've been paying attention. It looks good for what it is but I just don't think I really have any interest in VR even if I had the cash for one. I've tried a few games on the boy's Oculus and I just don't get on with it. It's fun for 10-15 minutes but any more than that and I'd rather just be sitting in front of the telly. Something about the sensory deprivation that comes with playing it. I don't like to be that immersed in something. It freaks me out.

I still think there's time for a broader mass market push. I don't recall seeing many TV ads for anything in the gaming space that's still weeks off launch.

There have been loads of YT previews of the headset itself and more recently Horizon. EG have multiple videos on upcoming games in dev. There's definitely content out there, I just don't know if they've done any tv or print marketing.

The new "Live from PS5" campaign started in the last couple of days and makes no mention of VR.

It felt like there was a bit of buzz initially when it was announced and then again at some trade show about 4 months or so ago, but it really has gotten quieter and quieter the closer we have come to the release.
Which is a shame as it seems like a really great bit of kit. I have original Vive and this is the first headset that has appeared to give a meaningful upgrade. Plus, I could be wrong, but isn't it the first commercial headset with foveated rendering? That could be huge for the potential image quality of VR environments.
It is something that feels like there should be much more excitement around it and I don't think it is just the price that is the problem. They could definitely be getting it in the hands of journalists and doing lots of spots on their State of Plays, but Sony just haven't done much to build that excitement. Maybe they are looking at this from a long term perspective and want to build up the hype over time, but it feels more like they are just sending it out to die.

Haha thanks guys , I’ve now gone from being excited to having my doubts . I’m now thinking I could have a weekend away with the family for the same cost or buy 2 new 42 inch tvs for my boys bedrooms ! I preordered Stadia and cancelled that due to the negativity on here and you were right then.
I’m worried that after the initial wow factor has gone will I use it much? I had the same with psvr 1 and the first quest. I was hoping it’s going to be a massive step up from them. I’ll keep my order for now and hope so decent reviews come out before . If gt7 gets great reviews I think that will decide it
