I was considering a playthrough but I didn't want to burn myself out on the gameplay which from everything I read appears to the same, which is not a bad thing but the first game was like a conservative 15hrs long and I imagine the sequel must be around the same conservative estimates.

Any reviews of the PS4 version kicking about?
I can't wait for Ragnarok to arrive on Wednesday, not least because I haven't turned on the PS5 since I finished Dead Cells back in... August? I want to say August.
It looks like more of the same in many ways, but I'm actually fine with that in this particular instance.

Yeah, I've just fired mine up today to play the previous one and a layer of dust had collected on the controller. Probably longer than August since I've given it a decent go.

I think I'll fire mine up tomorrow and get all the downloading/installing stuff out of the way - I'm pretty sure there's at least one system software update to download, and chances are at least a couple of my games will have patches to install.

It'll only update games that you've played fairly recently, which has always annoyed me. Moved some stuff between internal and external storage which seems to trigger a check for updates that would've otherwise been ignored.
Would be nice to have a check all option for saddos like me who like to keep everything up to date, even if they're not going to play it.
I'll probably just ditch the external storage now in fairness. Doesn't really feel necessary with gigabit internet. GoW wasn't installed, but was ready to go by the time I'd made a cuppa and done a bit of washing up.

If I remember right, rebuilding the database from the safe menu would trigger an update for everything. It did in my experience on PS4 but I’ve never had enough installed at the same time on PS5 for it to be a thing.

Just watched a story recap of the 2018 Gof of War, which I played (and finished) around the time. I am occasionally shocked how little I remember from games I've played, my memories didn't go a lot further than "huge guy with beard and axe, his son, some trip somewhere with a boat, boss battle at the very beginning".

I was surprised by how short it was when I replayed it last year. When you know what youre doing and dont have to fanny about with resources or side quests, you can power through it pretty quickly.

Anyone have any experience of ordering from PlayStation Direct?
The refund from Amazon for my broken launch PS5 finally got processed (a bit slow, but they didn’t argue). Amazon are only selling PS5 consoles “by invitation” and despite asking nicely, they’ve not extended one to me yet.
Anyway, being completely impatient, I’ve ordered the God of War Ragnarok PS5 bundle from PlayStation direct.
Any chance it might arrive on release day??

May not be useful as I’m USA but I ordered my PS5 through PS Direct and it arrived on launch day.

I think Duff used them recently.

That wasn't too bad - I got the system software (including the DualSense) updated in short order, and only had a few games to patch. (There probably would've been more, but I can't seem to check for updates for the games stored on my external HD.) I was quite excited to create some folders - sorry, gamelists - and declutter my home screen in the process, as said feature was added to the PS5 in September and my console hasn't been switched on since. Unfortunately, it... kind of sucks.
Yes, you can create folders and add games to them, but a) the process is a bit fiddly, and b) they're only viewable when you go into your library; accordingly, the home screen is still as cluttered with icons as it was before, so the whole shebang was pretty much a waste of time.
Still, I'll be getting The Binding of Isaac tomorrow (hopefully), and Ragnarok on Wednesday (also hopefully). Exciting stuff!

The only update that would matter to me would be default alphabetical sorting in the Library tab.

There's an update on it that I just found by manually checking for update on the game tile. Might be worth checking you have the latest version of anyone is planning on firing it up at midnight tomorrow.

I’ve been hovering over it but can’t quite bring myself to pay PS5 prices for a slightly tarted up PS4 game.
It will be interesting to see he long that lasts…

If you have a modern TV the PS5 version is the only way you'll get a smooth framerate over 60...

The PS5 version is £62.99 at Amazon right now.
If you haven't done so already, sign into your Amazon account and go to amazon.co.uk/my-promotions to see whether they have any deals for which you're eligible. I got the '£5 off when you spend £15' promo recently, and that'd take Ragnarok down to £57.99.

I’m in the same boat actually. Came to the original quite late, so I’m happy to wait a while longer. Might rent it at Christmas. “We believe in generations” my arse.

Yeah, same. I'll play it if someone gifts it to me for my birthday or Christmas, but I'm in no rush. It doesn't look much improved over the first game from what I've seen, and I never even completed that one.

I don’t really understand why you’d bother at all in that case.

I don’t really understand why you’d bother at all in that case. It’s not rocket science is it? Looks decent, but not £70 decent. Happy to wait for a sale or a gift. See also: Ratchet & Clank. Horizon 2. GT7. All games I’ve enjoyed. All games I’ve paid well under RRP for. Ragnarok isn’t must play day one gaming for me by a long shot.

But play and finish the first first? I don’t see the point in jumping into the second, which is very much more of the same, if you can’t be arsed to play the first. That’s not the same situation that you’re in.

Didn't say I didn't like the first, just never completed it. It was fine. Good even. But the fact that I didn't complete it, and that it's expensive but looks not only like more of the same, but still very much of the PS4 era means I can wait. No need to rush for day one full price.
But to just go "why bother playing it at all?" is a huge stretch.

If you’re not going to give as much money as possible to daddy Sony then can you even call yourself a True Gamer?

But in my head, it's not as I know I won't get the time to play it so I might as well wait for a price drop. Still haven't completed Ghosts or finished GT7 menu cards etc. Stupid grown up life.

I'll be buying the shot out of it. Games like it are the reason I still bother with any of this shit.

Innit. I happily paid the premium for what will almost certainly be a special, special game and will be smashing Thor's stupid fat face in tonight when it drops.

I'm happily playing through the last game at the moment. I've never been one to play a game and then move straight on to a sequel, so I'll just sit this one out and let you Sony Ponies pay £70 for it.
