But your expectation was that there was “no way” it could be less than £600. It's a bit cheaper than I was expecting? Not sure what you want me to say, I'm not trying to win an argument here? I guess it was just you posting an “I was right” type comment when you weren’t kind of tickled me. No biggie.

Nice that Pistol Whip is getting a new version but I still want Beat Saber. The gf will go nuts for the Jurassic World game. Ragnarock is the best VR rhythm game. Personally, Beat Saber and Pistol Whip are good, but I much prefer the music in Ragnarock.

It’s a bit steep. Can’t justify that after the steam deck. I’m in.

I’ve been holding off on VR for years now so very much in. Better start saving now though.

If they managed to do something decent for gt7 it could tempt me.

It looks awesome but I'm not spending that kind of money on something that's going to make me sweat out my eyes before tripping over the couch and breaking my spine on the fireplace.

My PS5 has sat looking balefully at me for weeks now. Toyed with getting rid but this would be my 1st VR experience and it does look well engineered and decently specced. Certainly cheaper than a full fat PC upgrade and headset combo.
Lack of wide support is my worry. Hopefully some PC stuff will come over.

So the AU price is $880. The launch price of PS5 was AU$750.
I’m now wondering if Sony have done this knowing production will be scarce, to scupper scalpers. Why not sell it at the price scalpers would have charged if they could afford it? Sony can always bring the price down after mad early adopters have leapt on it.

If you have never tried VR then you should give it some serious consideration. The library of games currently looks like a mix of Quest 2 ports and exclusives. The exclusives are what interest me at the moment. It is well engineered and specced - certainly worth the cash IMO. VR really is something to experience - it's the closest we have to a holodeck. Scale and immersion really cannot be conveyed in video or words. It would be good to see PC titles come over - can't see why not (the foveated rendering will really help on any demanding games). Have you checked out the impressions people have had recently - worth a look.

Yeah, VR is amazing. I was reminded of its ability to still wow when I recently showed Star Wars Squadrons off to a friend. I think he had played a racing game in VR before and maybe a couple of other bits (although on an underspecced PC and it made him want to heave). Forgotten how fun it is to watch other people have their minds blown by the tech. It really is something you have to try yourself to really get it.

I found the more I used it the more my subconscious saw through the illusion and the wow factor seriously declined. Doubt I'll pick the second one up unless some top tier games start coming out.

It's something that I can't really see past the novelty factor with. Used my boy's Oculus a couple of times and never really had a massive urge to get back to it. I don't like my gaming to deprive my senses of everything else completely. I'm too much of a couch gamer.

Oh I absolutely loved it for a good while. But then the more the wow factor wore off the less I could be fucked with the mess on and feeling mildly shitty after using it.
I'm sure once the emergerd it's amazing posts start I'll end up buying it though.

Did you play RE7 on it? I seem to recall you did. To be honest it might be something like that that pushes me over the edge. RE7 and 8 rendered in a beautiful high-res VR setting might just be too tempting to pass up.

Half Life Alyx probably did more damage to VR for me than anything else. It was incredible and exactly what I bought into the tech for. I wanted to get lost in a world and to be fully engrossed in a narrative.
Everything else paled in comparison though. The vast majority of games besides Alyx seemed to just be gimmick games that are fun for a few moments or multiplayer games. Single player story driven games were few and far between, as well as not having the money to do the format justice or were very short.
The rhythm games are probably the ones I return to most, but that is mostly because they aren't bad as a bit of exercise.

Yeah. Almost gave me a fucking heart attack. To the point where I couldn't get through it. There was a Dead Space clone on their too which was similarly absolutely awful.

See. I can see me folding like a cheap deckchair at the thought of playing something so intense that my heart could give out.

I'm sure once the emergerd it's amazing posts start I'll end up buying it though. Ian Higton's piece about the new tech does seem to suggest it is a significant step up in quality and the controllers are obviously much better, tracking all round is excellent. I wasn't really bothered about it until I watched his video. The price is obviously quite steep but it is over half the price of valve index with similar levels of resolution. I am very tempted to pre-order, a new astrobot game would have sold it completely. Even if you use it just for a year, you could get most of your money back on resale.

So accepting I am thick as pig shite, how do I get fast resume (is it even called that) ? or whatever it is called to work on PS5 AND does it only work on PS5 games and/or games only on internal hd. I have been playing some digital PS4 games and even using "swapper" the games all load up as if the first time ? This sort of issue/reason is why I should know my place and stick with my beloved GearsofWarBox only

Resume Activity is the thing to use. Apparently it;s per title and PS4 games won’t work - there’s no system level software upgrade like on Xbox.

Realised this morning that I get a bonus of sorts in Feb, so I can grab VR2 without worrying about impact on wages for the month. I barely use VR1 atm (though I do want to blast through some unplayed stuff soon) but I genuinely think the ease of set-up and controller charging will change that completely for the 2nd version. Everything about VR1 is a ball-ache to get read to play.

I'm 90% sure we'll see Half Life: Alyx on PSVR2. Probably as a launch title.
If you've not played it already, I guarantee it's worth your time and money. I'll probably rebuy it myself, as I can't be fucked arsing around with the Index lighthouses every time I want a quick blast on something on the PC and would welcome a more simple high end VR solution.
