So I guess I should have seen it coming, but I was hoping PSVR2 would be backwards compatible with the PSVR library. It’s not. I nabbed a bunch of them when they were free. Doubt they’ll rework them for the new gear. Hopefully RE7, although I don’t cope with that game anyway. www.kotaku.com.au/2022/09/psvr-1-games-wont-work-on-your-psvr-2/

I imagine it would be a fuck on if not impossible to get them working with the completely different tracking technique.

Are there any PSVR games that were so amazing that you'd want to replay them? I'd hope that we'll see a generational leap for PSVR2 games that will make the PSVR versions (which had to run on an underpowered PS4) all seem like tech demos.
I say this as someone who probably spent £200 on VR software whilst getting overexcited in the first month of ownership before the novelty wore off and it sat in a cupboard for a year. The moves were rubbish, and really held things back. I also had the gun thing and that was similarly underwhelming in practice. My favourite games were ones that used the pad (Astrobot and Statik) and actually you're probably missing half the VR experience by not being able to use your hands in a natural way.

Blood and Whatever wasn’t bad, I wouldn’t mind a port of that.

The only games I even recall people talking about were Astrobot and Resident Evil 7. I can’t cope with the regular version of RE7 and Sony will surely port or otherwise update their own properties.
Maybe they added VR to No Man’s Sky, too? They’ll surely update that as well. Hello Games will never stop apologising for that game.

Valkyrie Elysium demo is pretty fun, if you want wacky hack and slashes with anime valkyries.

Valkyrie Elysium demo is pretty fun, if you want wacky hack and slashes with anime valkyries. I had a go last night after playing Wo Long... That's not the order to do it. I played it for about 2 hours, 1:55 of it thinking "why am I bothering with this?" The combat is boring and simplistic, the loot is just different coloured gems (even in the chests for the most part), it's just rock/paper/scissors with the enemies and their weaknesses - there's no hook. There will have to be a hell of a lot more to the full game than this.

Wo Long is definitely the better designed game, but sometimes you're in the mood for mindless combos rather than "methodical" combat.

I have a handful of VR titles that I haven't played that I was hoping would get some kind of support because I can't be bothered setting up the breakout box. Looking forward to a simple plug and play solution.

I would have hoped Sony developed some kind of interpreter for psvr2 to run vr1 games. First uses lights for tracking position in 3D space whereas the new one doesn't, so surely a talented dev could map the position of the new controllers/headset to act as the "light" it passes to the vr1 game. Much in the same way that emulators map the mouse to a light gun game. But this is Sony so I'm not actually surprised they half arsed it and didn't look into "emulation" since they can't even be bothered to do PS3 right.

Blood and Whatever wasn’t bad, I wouldn’t mind a port of that. Blood and Truth was a really fun game, port that with full movement controls rather than the points you travelled between and it'd be great.
Maybe they added VR to No Man’s Sky, too? They’ll surely update that as well. Hello Games will never stop apologising for that game. No Man's Sky PS5 getting an update to handle PSVR2 is already announced, it works pretty well with the PS4 version now (it's enhanced running it on PS5) already but with better hardware it should be a lot better, especially with the new controllers.

I'd be surprised if they don't do PS5 versions of Beat Saber and Pistol Whip too.

Beat Saber is ripe for an upgrade. It's very good but tracking can be a bit off.

Facebook bought the Beat Saber developer, quite possible it'll not be ported to anything other than their headsets now.

They need to make money from somewhere, I reckon it will be ported day 1 or close to.

I expect it would be cheaper, and have better results, for Sony to give support to devs wanting to port the games into the new unit, than to write an emulator that will poorly translate the Move to the… whatever the new controllers are called. Before you even look at any other aspect of comparability, of which there seem to be many. They may also have a minimum image quality demand for games on the new unit, which a straight up emulated game wouldn’t meet. I’d sooner they supported ports if anything on PSVR is actually good.

Yeah, I'm one to call out Sony but I think it's a bit much to call them lazy here with the work probably involved.

I dunno, strikes me as a bit of a “can’t use dual shocks on ps5 games because of reasons” thing.

I reckon they’ll port Beat Saber. Meta buying them hasn’t stopped them churning out DLC for other platforms.

This new Avatar movie coming reminded me of the 3D fad. I MIGHT have one 3D Blu-Ray somewhere (never watched) but it made me wonder if PSVR2 is going to be compatible with all that, given the fad faded out years ago. Technologically, obviously, but they might not want to pay the rights for compatibility, like how consoles can’t play CDs anymore.

Trying to think of psvr1 games that I'd miss.
Hopefully, they'll do a Rez on psvr2? Bloody hope so anyway. I'm sure they'll do the 'big ones, but apart from those, it's the small indie ones that might not make it -
Blood and truth Polybius Thumper Persistence Until Dawn: Rush of blood Wipeout
Things like those would be good to see on the new one
