I liked how Adam Armstrong celebrated a yellow card by thinking it was the final whistle, ripping off his shirt and running at the crowd. Embarrassing.

As Portsmouth get promoted into the Championship, Southampton get promoted out. Hampshire police glad they don't have to deal with the derbies.

Meh. Once again, an impossibly comprehensive bottle job as soon as the real pressure came about. Congrats Saints. Took their chance. Someone needs to tell Farke that passing the ball the full width of the opposition box and back does count towards the result.

Hope the internet points were worth the dangerous driving charges for those two drivers.

Doubt it, you get closer to other cars on the M27 at the moment as lane 2 is barely wide enough for a car where the roadworks are. Proper squeaky bum time if there is a 16 wheeler in lane 1.

Had a bit of time to process it all now. I’m disappointed, but it’s not at all unexpected so hard to be too outraged. We’ve now been in six playoffs, and four finals, and never been promoted through them which is a new record. Yay.
In any normal season 90 points gets you up so it’s hard to be too mad at Farke. Also, Southampton are really good, and had already comfortably beaten us twice this season so not exactly a shock result. We seem to have an hour of attacking possession without ever creating a clear cut chance, but one well executed ball in behind is enough to undo us. It’s happened repeatedly all season. We can’t break a low block, and a well executed counter is our weakness. We dominated possession for the first 15 minutes, Southampton’s back 5 was solid and impenetrable, then one Smallbone ball through the big gap to Armstrong and it was game over. Never felt we were going to score after that.
Saints came with a plan to nullify and exploit us, and for the third time this season it worked a charm. Better team on the day won.
Hopefully next season the competition is a bit less fierce at the top. None of the three teams just relegated from the PL should be as good as Leicester or Southampton were this season.
Unrelatedly, on the way back a bunch of Leicester fans had congregated on the bridge over the M1 at Leicester Forest East services flying their promotion flags at Leeds fans heading home. It got a good laugh from me, that’s some top tier shithousing.

On the plus side, the pool of likely promotion teams could be getting a bit shorter.

Hit the bar three times in the first six minutes of the season. That’s a bit silly.

Rooney off to a cracking start at Plymouth

Rooney off to a cracking start at Plymouth I semi follow Plymouth as they are the closest league side to me living down here in Cornwall. I can't see him lasting 6 games. It was a truly insipid performance to a team that only finished two points above them last season. Barely had any shots and touches in the opposition box (and what they did have came in the last 10 minutes) and Sheff Wednesday played through them like they were walking cones. As bad as I have seen and if they lost Whittaker, it's going to be a very long season. Feel a bit for him, for his sake and Plymouths I want him to do well, but it's such an odd decision to bring him in. Goes against all the astute decisions the club has made over the last 5-6 years.

Much as it’s funny when he fucks up so much, I do have a lot of respect for him. Despite being a legend of the game here he’s taking shit jobs at low level clubs, failing, and coming back and trying again without making a big deal about it. Compared to Lampard and, to a lesser extent, Gerrard, who get jobs they’re clearly not qualified for based on name alone, then look to blame anyone else when it’s clear they’re out of their depth, I think Rooney handles himself pretty well. Genuinely seems to be doing it for the love of the game rather than the love of the attention like most of his international teammates of that era. But also he’s clearly very bad at it and owners of Championship clubs should really stop hiring him.

Yep Rooney takes the worst jobs.
He seems a decent football guy, but the EFL is not the place the take these shite jobs.
He should cut his teeth in the SPL less pressure but less chance to get the boot after 10 games

At least I will have someone to relate to all season, QPR will race you to the bottom SPL has some standards, not taking melonhead till he gets a job on merit rather than name. Even Warnock got sacked from Aberdeen and that dude could get a pub team to the Prem I am sure Rooney has applied for big jobs but who in their right mind would put him in charge of the amount of money those club squads waste.
