Not sure what data Epic have gained for the 300+ games they've given me. It's more of an alternative way to spend the marketing budget and draw people to your storefront. I think short term is mind share and user draw but maybe the long term vision now is to eventually get over the perception of 'but all my games are on steam'. At some point, unless buying loads the reality is that most of your games might be on EGS. Now, the quality will vary because your steam library is something you've curated over time Vs any old shit that they throw out on EGS.

I agree on Epic. I apparently have 474 on Steam and 422 on Epic, so it is catching up. The quality distribution probably isn't actually that far off, as I have a bunch of stuff on steam that I only picked up as freebies or in bundles, and EGS has given away some pretty good games. I don't *think* I've ever bought anything there though, although I wouldn't be averse to doing so. TBH, I rarely buy anything directly on Steam either, but get keys through other stores or bundles.
People like GOG mainly give away games during Sales though, so it's mainly a way to get people browsing the site in the hope they might buy.

Apr 04 -11 we will have Outer Worlds : Spacers Choice edition which has been given away before. Interestingly though, Thief is also up for giveaway in the same period. Never played any of the thief games so i'm up for this

Thief is newest, rebooted Thief which by all accounts didn't do the original classics justice.
I've not played the originals tbh. I found the reboot a serviceable but fairly uninspired stealth game, though it had a nice sense of style.

A game called Islets is apparently free on Epic, but in a first for me, it's region locked so I can't get it. You lovely fellows in the west should be ok though.
Next week is the newest Thief game, along with something else I forget. I know it's supposed to be rubbish compared to the old ones, but at the price of free I might give it a go, just for some rough approximation of old-school Th3ifiness with shinier graphics.

Would using a VPN (even a free one like Proton VPN) allow you to get it?

Would using a VPN (even a free one like Proton VPN) allow you to get it? Probably, but I can't really be bothered for that one. Just noting it as a weird first (and hopefully only) occurrence.

"The Outer Worlds - Spacer's Choice Edition" is free again over at Epic. Thief 4 as well.
Edit: Forgot that it had already been mentioned. But anyway, treat it as a reminder if interested.

Last chance to get them today (until they are given away free again in about 6 months time). GhostRunner is going to drop today at some point.

I know what you mean. Half of the time I forget which games I actually own on Epic as I barely engage with it. Still, it was nice being able to play some games that I would otherwise not have bought and that I ended up liking.

I tried Ghostrunner on PS5 when it was a PS+ freebie. It has some lovely ideas and plays slickly, but is horribly, maddeningly, frustratingly difficult. I think I died over 100 times on one section before overcoming it, and finally gave up when I hit another brick wall and couldn’t muster the will to keep trying for the 161st time…
Such a shame.

One day I will actually play a free game downloaded from Epic...one day I've actually played quite a few of them, at least relative to the number of Steam Sale / Humble Bundle games I've played
That said, the Epic storefront has devolved into so many cheap looking junk games. Remember for a while when they were talking about being this tightly curated selection of high quality games? It seemed like they kept that up for about a year, and now half the games on the store look like freebie-asset dodgy anime games. *shrug*

One day I will actually play a free game downloaded from Epic...one day Any time I open EGS on PC (or GoG Galaxy come to think of it as that's linked to Epic), I'm amazed at how many games I own on it, then promptly close it again and forget about it for another couple of months.

Fallout 76 is free on Prime Gaming for both Xbox and PC. Went and redeemed the PC version, and the store told me I already own it. Weird, can't even remember when that happened. Still had to get it for Xbox though.

Any time I open the Epic Launcher it immediately starts downloading a 90Gb Fortnite update before inevitably failing because I don't have enough free space. See last night.

Not really free per se, but as it turns out there are some non-obvious physical copies that can be added to the steam account through "Games" - "Activate a product on steam...".
I found a list, but I don't think it's complete. The ones I was able to add were:
- Revenge of the Titans - Dark Souls - Prepare to die edition - Prey (2006) - Medieval II - Total War
Sadly no luck with Cryostasis and some others.

Industria and Lisa - Definitive Edition will be free on Epic Games Store starting in a few days.
Industria was merely ok. Short FPS with some interesting story presentation, but nothing much to write home about.

Circus looks nice but apparently is just crappier version of darkest dungeon I actually quite enjoyed it and finished the game which is more than I can say of Darkest Dungeon. Paid a sale price for it and free is a no-brainer IMO.
