This is the first year that my wife isn't doing a scavenger hunt in the house and Gary. Usually she spends hours coming up with clues etc, but there's always arguments (normally the boy having to win/find everything first) so she told the kids to stick it. A random scattering of eggs it is. Bet Gary’s happy for the break

“Oh you found another egg! Well done darling! Where was it?” “In Gary” "Gary, who's Gary?". Niche film quote for you there.

This year, the eleven year old has taken over the egg-hiding duties, issuing strict instructions last night for us to not get up until she says we can. As Mrs. M. has just pointed out, the “Easter Elephant” has been stomping around the house since about 07:00. For a dancer and gymnast, whose forenames literally mean “delicate and graceful”, she, well, isn’t. Well, she did a great job! A couple of the clues were real belters: it's almost like she's actually listening to me and learning something! In related news, Mrs. M. then arranged a new hunt with the remaining eggs via the Alexa Skill, which also worked really well, although a little clunky to set up, and slightly confusing that it asks you for your "eight digit secret code" to start the game, and only gave us a five digit code. Still worked though. And not a Gary in sight!

Well I've hidden all the eggs etc throughout our usual jaunt around the woods route, not really clues to follow as such more of there's a clue hanging in a tree then they have to hunt around for them, now if I can just get the eldest out of bed we can get on with it.

Speaking of Gary's.
There's not many Gary's about these days is there. That's definitely a name that's died a death in the popularity stakes.

Baby shark is 3 months old now. I’m tired as fuck. No end in sight.
Please tell me there’s a magic point where it gets much easier.

What’s tiring you out man? Is it not sleeping or always being sick or stuff?
Rhythm is essential. Get in one and it should be easier.

There's always something else though. Once they start sleeping properly, then comes the "into everything" phase where you can't take your eyes off them, and the tantrums. Then you lose the daytime naps, so you get no time at all...and then, and then etc...

Exactly that. We are in the "always there" phase, especially in the evening. Eldest isn't quite old enough to watch everything we want to, but can watch some stuff that the youngest can't. So have to constantly juggle.

I found that after a few months I just got used to the lack of sleep. It’s not great, but I can function on a few hours sleep now. Your body just kind of gets used it. At least mine did anyway. Still sucks to be tired all the time though. But then I’ve got 3 so am clearly a glutton for punishment It does get easier though, hang in there!

Our kids started to sleep thro’ the night from around 6-8 months and that was the first main blessing.
But as Dougs says, as one worry or strife goes away, a new one (or two) replace it.
Lucky kids are mostly cute.

My special skill was always falling asleep really quickly- so if I had to get up and sort a baby out at 2am I'd be back asleep again by 2:30. But even with that skill, I just had to get used to surviving on 4-6 hours of sleep some nights and then catching up whenever I could (afternoon naps are also a thing I never used to need and now look forward to whenever possible). Even when my kids stopped waking up through the night, by then I'd got so used to it that my evenings got later and later, and now 9pm til 11-12ish is TV/gaming time most nights, once the kids are either in bed or at least banished to their rooms.

Chicken Pox has finally arrived. After weeks of warnings from nursery before the Easter holidays and clear skin right through March and the two weeks off he’s broken out in spots over night.
Mood and activity level seem unaffected so far and he’s not scratching yet so maybe it’ll be a mild dose.
Bit of a shame to cancel our plans to go to the aquarium as its all he’s talked about for the entire Easter break.

Ah no! Better to get it out of the way now though. Nightmare for childcare though, what is it, when the spots have crusted over? Can't remember now, long time ago for my 2.

Yeah gotta stay home until he gets crusty. Will miss the first couple of days of nursery unless they’re really persistent or he gets really sick with it.
I expect there is a lot of Cbeebies in my near future.

We’re safe in that regard at least. I think the biggest issue will be him climbing the walls as he gets sick of indoor activities. His nursery has its own soft play so he’s usually super active every day.

My 4yo daughter just paid me the best compliment. "You're very smart daddy, I think you're almost as smart as me. Just today though."

My four year old boy just had his school eye test and we got one of those “Your child couldn’t read some/all of the letters using his right eye” messages back.
I’m hoping it’s a lazy eye or similar but I have a very strong family history of glaucoma, including me, and I’m not-very-quietly shitting myself in case he has a childhood incidence of that. Very, very rare to get it at his age but still can’t stop worrying.
Opticians on Saturday but opticians are shit.

Nah, it’s all good, bro. We had the same when the girl went from foundation to primary at 4. It’s just a no child left behind measure.
A few sessions at the pediatric opticians and she got some rad sleeping beauty glasses, becoming the envy of the class.
If you’ve ever spent 10 minutes pointing at a bush, trying to get him to see an insect or something it suddenly makes sense when they get glasses.

Opticians picked up my first signs of glaucoma, never would have noticed had it not been for them.

I think you’re likely right - I’m just being a wet paranoid Dad. We’ve talked about it and he’s pretty keen to get glasses. He’s going thro’ a big Daddy’s Boy phase and wants to look like me (bad choice!). @freddy My optician missed my glaucoma - despite me being high risk - for about six years. I lost 40% vision because some cunt didn’t know how to measure eye pressure or run a field test properly.

This was a large chain opticians and they proved themselves worse than useless.
