My boy won his sports day obstacle race this week. Let’s just say he’s not the most athletic child (no idea where gets that) but he always tries so hard and is desperate to win but never does.
He was walking air for the rest of the day. I was proper chuffed for him.

We have all our photos on rotation on the Chromecast on the kitchen telly, often get knocked sideways. How were they so small?!

Ha! Yes, they look so small and happy compared to the communicating by grunting, lumbering, moody teen I have now!
It'll change back, right?
Right???

Apparently so, when they hit their 20s they become functioning members of society that you can actually talk to.

To be fair the moody teenage years have their upsides. I have to work from home during half term next week. Kid 3 is in holiday club, kids 1 and 2 are at home- and I fully expect to not see either of them the entire time.
Kid 1 will be binge watching Stranger Things, and kid 2 just got the Breath of the Wild DLC, so that’s the next week of entertainment sorted.

What do you do when you have been clever / with the times, and got your littlest one started on a balance bike, but her friends have crap pink bikes with stabilisers. And now the time has come for a new bike she wants a shitty Barbie bike with stabilisers!!!!!
I know what I'm going to do and that's get the bike I was always gonna get her and maybe put pink ribbons on it.

I expect you're screwed with respect to some hideous bike but will say that typically any Barbie or similar themed bike will be a load of rubbish to ride compared with say a £50 S/H proper bike that once cost someone £200 new. But you probably know all that. Also the one thing that seemed very consistent with all advice was to never get stabilsers, they merely delay and actively discourage actually riding a bike.
My youngest nagged me to put stabilisers on his bike for about a year but I always refused being the mean dad that I am, then one day he actually said he wanted give it another go (having zoomed around on balance bikes for seemingly years) and was riding within about 20mins of me teaching him, proper proud dad day.

Wait a few years, there's always something new to annoy you. Like leaving the house at midnight to go to the gym.... there are cars involved now, as they and their friend group start to drive. Unfortunately we are still on hand and close enough to get phone calls at 3am when things have gone tits up when they are out clubbing.... Youngest is more into D&D than partying, long may that continue!

My daughter has turned 35 today, 35!
Blimey.
She is the kindest, most generous human being ever. Other than my eldest son, who is exactly the same. Both, literally, wouldn't hurt a fly.
My youngest is a law unto himself.
There are, of course, all perfect.

Just what we were saying above! Please tell me the eldest two used to fight like cat and dog? I am very low at the moment, my 2 can't go 5 mins without an argument or someone (my daughter) getting hurt. It's getting me down. Even a 10 min car ride is excruciating, how I've not crashed the car, heaven knows. I am told it's all very normal. Hmm.

My mum was still separating me and my brother into our 30s so I wouldn’t hold your breath.

It really feels like we have an 8 year old and a 6 year old, we actually have an 8 year old and a 12 year old. At least the Early Help lady agreed the eldest seems pretty immature for his age and that he's on the ADHD spectrum somewhere, even though we're probably years off a diagnosis.

Again, all sounds quite familiar. It's frustrating, went swimming yesterday and they spent an hour on their own, playing nicely and not fighting. Back in the car and chaos reigns again.

And, my youngest has turned 17 today.
He mostly grunts, burps and farts out loud (which he laughs at) and opens the fridge door every 10mins staring at the unchanged contents.
But, get him talking about history, gaming, film, TV, and technology and he turns into a walking talking intelligent human being.
He is, of course, perfect.

Just taught my 6yo to ride his bike! Well, he can pedal well enough to go in a straight line and he can stop without falling off.
Next step - starting himself off and going round corners.
Proud of the little monster.

Saul, that's more than a tad harsh. Might I suggest an edit when you are thinking more clearly. Or I'll delete the post.

Anyone watching Stranger Things with their kids?
Our 12 year old had been harassing us to watch it from series 1 and we finally let him (with us) a month or so back. It’s been fun rewatching it and we’d been excited to watch the new series this week. Sat down to watch it tonight and… bloody hell. It’s gone full on Nightmare on Elm Street! Anyone know if it continues like that for season 4? It’s so much worse than the previous episodes imo.
I guess we should have watched it first, but as we knew what went before we thought we’d be safe.

My 12 year old has watched it all with his mum and they both absolutely loved it but then we're probably a bit lapse on age restrictions in this household, it's not been my thing at all I could only get to about the third episode before I gave up.

Yeah, we're watching it with the 12 year old too. He's loving it - we're generally quite strict about such things (especially games) but he seems to be handling this ok. It's Pandora's Box though, he'll be hassling us to watch all manner of horror now, I am sure.

I just dropped my son to the nursery for his first full day...his crying is a whole new level of mental trauma we've never experienced before
