A school I was at when I was about five required boys to wear shorts all year round, including winter. It was fucking freezing but made me the man I am today.
Toughen up, snowflakes.

I sent the kids to school today wearing thermal vests, and their ski jackets and gloves I mean it is about as cold as it would be on the slopes, just above zero. But UK damp makes it feel colder. I'm sitting at my desk in an old gvt building with long johns and a vest under my trousers & shirt. Also managed to find a desk next to a radiator, which was set to zero, now at MAXXX.

Saw one of these on my neighbour's car this morning, and am a bit annoyed that I found it 8 years too late! Will have to have a word with the missus...

My little one played his last U8 football match yesterday in his current division, as his team have been promoted. All the boys on both teams did well, particularly given the high winds and driving rain. I was slightly astonished it wasn’t cancelled. Anyway, ultimately the boys won 3-0 with my boy scoring two and keeping a clean sheet with a great sliding goal line clearance.
Not sure this is the right thread, so any guidance appreciated.

Keep him away from the beer and fags until at least U13?

That’s the plan.
Not quite the guidance I was after, but appreciated all the same.

You could post that here or the ‘positive things that just happened’ thread without any fear or faux pas. You can also use this thread to ask for/get perspective/advice for when things worry you or don’t feel they are going right, for which it’s a wonderful tool with wonderful folks.

As drakeypoos said, this place is great as a support for the harder times but hearing the great times from people is also a bulwark against those difficult periods. Love to hear it.

So my 6yo has speech therapy at school and the therapist sends a written report after each session to me & my wife, copied to his class teacher. So this morning's report starts: 'G told me about how he is ill but has to go to school and if they send him home grandma will have to pick up but not until lunchtime', also 'G also told me how mummy overslept so he was late this morning'
I mean (a) thanks a lot you little snitch and (b) really Ms Therapist?? You're just dobbing us in to the school like that??

What the fuck does that have do with the outcomes I assume the therapist is trying to reach?
Time for a new therapist, if that’s an option?

She's illustrating his progress/issues by quoting him verbatim, which I guess is useful, and it's hilarious that by so doing she dobbed us in for sending him with a temperature, but yeah.

Ach, who hasn't whacked some calpol in them and sent them into school? The economy would collapse if we all let the little cherubs stay home when they're not feeling 100%.

The only reason I didn't go to school with chicken pox is because it was visible and school would kick me back home.

We're waiting for a visit from the social services, after reading an essay my youngest wrote for his Higher English portfolio, on the subject of in app/game purchases and DLC. After telling the tale of his big brother spending hundreds of pounds on "fish points" for an app (we got it back), then his FIFA addiction and related anger issues, he anounced he was free of such impulses, and had only purchased limited DLC for a game he had put over 2000 hours into..... I like reading his stuff, he has the same style I had at that age before science knocked it out of me

I have just spent silly(ish) money on two tickets to see spurs vs wolves for the sake of my spurs loving lad.
I expect a 'Dad of the Year' award imminently.
And hope to god that live football tickets are legit. The reviews and shite on reddit hopefully suggests so...

Fingers crossed mate. Personally I'd always recommend avoiding such sites but I understand why people do given the demand these days. I think it's lovely that you've done it though.
I have hopefully earned my good Samaritan badge by sorting out my wife's friends' 17 year old a ticket for the Arsenal in 2 weeks. He's from Norn Iron and I did the same when he was 13 so delighted to help again. They looked at all avenues before my wife reminded her that I have 2 season tickets!

I was all set to get us legit tickets for Fulham v Bournemouth having gone there before. Then he asked 'can we not see spurs?'.
Going legit would be v. unlikely to get two beside each other if we got at all. I would sooner not do it this way, but for a one off, it's tough not to.
He wants to pay to join the ballot once he's older & properly working.

I'm off to Forest v Ipswich for my boys first 'big' football match - Got this game as didn't think I'd get tickets for Forest v Villa (He's a villa fan - breaks my heart), but scooped them up too - 2 games in a 2 weeks - Can't wait! Enjoy

Last time we went to see Fulham it was Fulham v Villa, since I am a closet Villa fan for my "south of the border" team due to being solihull born, but raised north of the wall. It was the death knell game for Gerard, so despite seeing them lose, it was really win-win.
