Yes, that's awful. I'm sorry to hear that. That's going to be very difficult for the family. I wish them all the best. Fucking cancer.

It was my son's mate, they've got a big group (he's in the "cool crowd", my other 2 are introvert nerds, more of chips off the old block ).

Ah, your son in that case. Apologies I just presumed. Either way, the sentiment is the same. So sad.

Oh man, that's horrendous. The poor parents, as well as your son and his friends. I don't know how I'd ever get over that.

fucking hell, that's grim - poor family
often the problem with kidney cancer, it can go undetected for so long, or be misinterpreted as stones/gallstones...my wife's went undetected by anyone, including herself, for nigh on ten years
such a fucking young age, fuck cancer hard...

Uncle in his 50s got diagnosed with lung cancer a few months ago.
Had an operation to remove the tumour they found - went successful but turns out they'd missed something on the initial scan and it's spread - now needs to go for intense chemo.
The man no luck at all - my aunt absolutely fucked him over by having an affair and then taking most of the money (including the house and half his pension) a few years ago and now this.
As ever, fuck cancer.

So sorry to hear that, rhaegyr - what a shitty run of luck your uncle's having. Hope the chemo goes as well as that awful process possibly can. Fuck cancer in its eye sockets.

So my dad has just messaged to say that they found his psa levels had gone up a couple of weeks ago, looks like the cancer in his prostate and left side of his pelvis has grown. He's just seen the oncologist who has recommended a week course of radiotherapy to try and knock the shit out of it before he can then resume the hormone therapy (which until this point has been managing it well). Suffice to say not feeling great about it right now (obviously trying to stay positive for him though) and just needed to write it down somewhere. Fucking fuck the shit out of cancer.

Have had someone at work who has just had his prostate removed because of cancer. He was up and about in a week and feels as good as ever now. Hopefully your dad's case will be similar.

Thanks both - I know it's a hard subject for everyone venturing into this thread, but it's cathartic for me to come and get my thoughts down so appreciate it.

It is a hard subject, but that's exactly why we have this thread in the first place, to vent, commiserate and support each other. Every little bit helps. As ever, FCUTA. Best wishes to you and yours and hopefully your dad gets past this mikeck

Fuck, Kal - that's awful. I'm so sorry. Thanks. It’s been a year of pretty rapid decline so not unexpected. All sorts of mixed emotions as I imagine is normal. But yeah, fuck cancer indeed.

Sorry to hear that kal - would have been my usual Dad's birthday bash this weekend. From finding out he had pancreatic cancer to losing him (this was last May) was around 8 weeks. He'd opted for no chemo/radio but even so, it was rapid. Hope you get some more time together - every minute is precious.

Sorry to hear about your father, kal. Hospices are wonderful places, imo. I realise this sounds strange, but I’ve never been anywhere else where everybody works with such a shared belief in what they’re doing, and be so focused on the wellbeing of their patients. There’s always all kinds of mixed emotions, like you say. But if there’s one thing I know, if he’s in a hospice, he’s getting the best care he can.
