I am in desperate need of some new podcasts to listen to, and would really like a gaming one to have on while at work. I am currently listening to 10 year old episodes of the GamesRadar TalkRadar UK podcast, but I think it's about time I tried something more contemporary. So are there any good gaming podcasts that are currently running?

Someone suggested The Computer Game Show at the other place and it's got me listening regularly.

Nextlander- Vinny, Brad and Alex formerly of Giant Bomb- is decent. Fire Escape Cast is also good, so long as you don't mind them veering wildly off topic.

I discovered the wonderful Cane & Rinse podcast from the previous thread, have listened to about a hundred episodes so far. Filthy Casuals is also good for some irreverent banter.

I always pimp Cane and Rinse in these threads. My favourite gaming podcast for 5 years now. UK based too.

The only one I listen to is Crate & Crowbar. It's nominally PC only, but you get some Switch / PS4(?) / Cross platform stuff thrown in. The mood has changed slightly over the pandemic, as they couldn't often meet in person. But that's also meant a few remote people could come back. The best episodes were always the ones where they slowly got wasted and ended up arguing about weird little things, but these days they're more likely to be drinking tea. The Rock Paper Shotgun podcast is also PC only. I don't listen often, but it seemed ok. The members have changed a few times since I last listened though, so I don't know what the vibe is now.

I listen to a few.
Retronauts has been going for ages and ages, and they remain great.
Watch Out For Fireballs is kind of like a book club for games, they've been on for 10 years now and I love the format. And the hosts.
And a couple of GAMER NETWORK/Reedpop ones too. Axe of the Blood God is an RPG-focused one that used to be part of US Gamer, but is now independent.
And the RPS Electronic Wireless Show. Which is a lot higher on the bants than anything else I listen to, but imo they're pretty good bants. Matthew Castle is a neurotic little gem.

Videogamer podcast is the one. Well established simple formula with lots of tangents. Covers the latest games but with lots of throwbacks.

I used to enjoy the Giant Beastcast/Bombcast, but I've not been feeling the low energy vibe of the remaining team members. Danny is also quite irritating in my opinion.

Videogamer podcast is the one. Well established simple formula with lots of tangents. Covers the latest games but with lots of throwbacks. It's on my weekly rotation and I generally enjoy it, but Josh's frequent lapses into free-form word association do get on my nerves. He's also a terrible facilitator, but that only really comes into play on the rare occasion that there's more than two of them chatting. The quiz is good fun though. Aside from that, Nextlander, Giant Bomb, and RPS Electronic Wireless Show are my weekly listens. I definitely wouldn't recommend the latter for anything remotely like news or current affairs though. Will have to give Cane and Rinse a listen.

The Computer Game Show is great, probably my favourite gaming podcast.
I listen to a lot of the others already mentioned but just to add a new suggestion to the mix I also really like Filthy Casuals. It's hosted by three Australian comedians and it's well worth a listen.

Shamus Young's Diecast is one option, but I used to like it more back when it was a whole group of friends discussing all kinds of topics. Nowadays it's just two people for the most part. It can seem a bit stale sometimes.
Then there's also the "Eh! Steve!"-podcast, which is usually two friends discussing various topics, though sometimes with various guests.
"Triple Click" is also worth mentionnig. That's Jason Schreier and two friends on all kinds of topics. Usually varied and fun and three people are perhaps a bit more reliable in providing a spectrum of opinions.
Then there are few for people who understand German:
"Stay Forever" is a podcast on retro games. They also have a youtube-channel.
"Auf ein Bier", which is usually about games that have just come out and more general gaming discussions.
and the "Spieleveteranen"-podcast, which seems to be more of a mix of topics, though apparently also a good amount of retro. Haven't listened to it myself though.

I'll also throw my recommendation behind Crate and Crowbar. I also like Brendan Caldwell's Hey, Lesson! where he uses video games as jumping off points for various topics and has interviews with academics and chats with other game journos.
In a somewhat similar vein, History Respawned uses video games to talk about history. It's a YouTube channel but some of their stuff can be listened to as a podcast without missing much. The quality varies a lot though, so I wouldn't hesistate to move on to another episode if it seems a bit crap.

I've recently been listening to The Video Game History Hour, which is done by the Video Game History Foundation. Very well researched discussions, with each episode focused normally on a specific game, but sometimes a system or general topic. Low on the bants, if that is what you are after, but really informative and interesting.
Also really like The Back Page. Features Matthew Castle (who is on RPS's Electronic Wireless Show/The Weekspot) and Samuel Roberts. Its set up is that it is the two of them talking about their time writing for games magazines, but they deviate from that theme quite regularly. They do the occasional competition against each other, such as "you are making a mega publishing company, which dev studios do you buy?" or "your ultimate PS2 mini lineup" which are always fun.
I have AIAS Game Maker's Notebook on my list of one's to listen to, but not listened to much of it yet.

Another vote for Cane & Rinse here. I discovered it after posting a similar thread on the old board, and it was exactly what I needed. I love the ‘deep dive into a single game’ format - much prefer it to random chatter. The only issue is that I will run out of episodes eventually!

No way- really? It managed to stay basically the same after Brad left to form Nextlander, but subtract Jeff too and it’s going to be basically a different show under the same banner

I always assumed giantbomb was his business.
Jan and Jeff can do a good enough job of the podcast though I think to take it over.

Nextlander have an exclusive podcast for the £8 a month tier that has the old Beastcast crew on it, Austin, Dan etc, add Jeff G and I'd probably sub to try it out sometime, one a month and it's just started.

Jeff Gerstman leaving giantbomb, wonder what podcast he will end up on. He probably saw how much Alex, Vinnie and Brad are making through Patreon alone and questioned why the fuck he'd be shackled to a corporate entity. Have no idea how much he earns as editor of Giant Bomb but I reckon the Nextlander guys are clearing £10k a month EACH just from Patreon. Factor in merch, YouTube and freelance work and that's a higher salary than what I'd expect for a gaming journalist.

Is it almost a year after the other guys left? Maybe in his contract after the company changed hands he had to stay on another year.

I really like the vibe of Nextlander. I always preferred the Beastcast anyway, and Brad is a good listen. I can't stand the edgy try hard humour that started (I think) with Ben Pack on the Bombcast. I'm kind of hoping Jeff doesn't end up on Nextlander to be honest, he's become a little bit too negative for me these days. Like Arthur Gies on Rebel FM - this week's RFM is like a breath of fresh air, just Anthony and Matt chatting away without all the nitpicking.

He wasn't able to leave when the others did and had just been waiting. The nextlander crew found out while streaming the latest episode of the Mass Effect Andromeda run so him joining them might not be on. Get the feeling Giantbomb and Gamespot are going to become one.

Not being able to leave, or maybe it’s just bad to leave right after an acquisition, in terms of future employment.

Also, seeing how this is the end of an era, post your favourite GB related content?
