How many of the teams left are from the champions league? A quick look and I think it's half. We had to play Barca to even get to the knockouts, it's pretty crazy. Will be some achievement to win it this year. |

It's an annoyingly strong competition this year. Would have like to rotate a lot more but won't have the opportunity with the teams left. Literally just made the same point re: Arsenal. I think if we were in your league position it might be more tempting to go for it though. You're pretty safe in third and could definitely win it playing the first XI. We do need those coefficient points now that we have a 'big 7'. |

They need to stop dropping Champions League teams into it, not because it's affecting us this year just because it's wrong. I would be delighted if they did it next year even if it meant we got hurt by finishing 3rd in our group (assuming we are even there). I understand it makes the competition more glamorous but it's a kick in the teeth for teams that fought their way through the group phases.
It's all about money though, I think our game Vs Barca was the most watched European game this year.

It's a tricky one, because the group stages are trivial for 'big' clubs to the extent that they are almost pointless. Zero jeopardy, I can barely even remember who we played in our group. It's good for trying youngsters and giving minutes to players but otherwise it's totally forgettable.
Then the knock outs are actually pretty good and worthwhile sporting contests, but yes the CL teams dropping in represent a fairly ridiculous jump in quality.
I think the ideal would be for it to just be a straight two leg knock out tournament right through like the FA Cup with teams dropping into certain rounds based on league coefficients. Maybe the CL dropouts play a mini tournament themselves and only one or two come in rather than 8. Might be more balanced then.
Obviously wouldn't happen because fewer games = less money.

They are basically the Europa League gods though. Admittedly, yes, when reaching finals, but this season they do seem to be struggling so, um, I guess I'm kind of channeling superbob. Basically, It could go either way. |

Does ETH see Bruno as more of a central player? Certainly last few matches been playing a more deeper role with Sabitzer or McTominay playing in front of him. Maybe just thinks Sabitzer and McTominay can't play there I suppose. Not sure it's Bruno's strongest position either though. Edit: And the both combine for the goal  |
