Any recommendations for a lightweight pair of walking trainers?... Mainly for long dog walks (90% on paths) in drier weather plus a bit of pavement action on my office days (45 mins each way) Don't necessarily need to be waterproof. Good air circulation would be more of a priority. I got a pair of Columbia Men's Woodburn 2 but ended up sending them back as the colour didn't match the images at all. Felt nice and comfy mind you so I might try a different colour of those. I've never worn a pair of sneakers more comfortable than a pair of Ultraboosts. www.adidas.com/us/ultraboost-22-shoes/GZ0127.html

Now that's interesting @spooky, Ultraboosts have always been my choice for running shoes and (when they look ok) my everyday shoe too but lately the newer versions of the Ultraboosts haven't been so good, I had one pair where the tongue wasn't separate to the main body and it was just way too tight across the top of my foot and then another transmogrification where the material above the toe wore through in literally about 2 months so they went in the bin and, as you know, they ain't cheap.

Boost is old hat now so they’ve relagated it to their shopping mall shit collections mostly. Lightstrike is the new tech, which is shame as it’s their response to the current thick cushion trend

I've been fortunate with my pairs, but I really miss the laceless varieties. Especially since the laces don't serve any real purpose with the primeknit material.

In fairness I don't think I've ever spent over £100 on a pair of non dressy shoes until now. Got the Meindl ones from the last page and love them so far.

Anyone done anything recently? We are going away for a couple of nights staying in a yurt and leaving the little one with grandma. On the way intend to walk upto Pots and pans in Saddleworth and then travel to find a water fall known as Folly Folly Falls. Saturday will involve plenty of walking Gorpley Clough and Stoodley Pike and then time depending a stop at Hebden Bridge I'm looking at a pair of these MH150 boots for the weekend which have come recommend to me and I've got a voucher to use. www.decathlon.co.uk/p/men-s-waterproof-walking-boots-nh150-mid/_/R-p-308079?mc=8554620&c=BLACK

Does walking up mountains count as walking? Or has it changed into hiking.

Does walking up mountains count as walking? Or has it changed into hiking. I think you can call it whatever you like, tbh. Generally, hikes are considered to longer walks on more demanding terrain. If you're wearing a pair of expensive boots for your walk, you might be hiking.

All the same to me. Did a nice walk up Llyn y Fan Fach with girlfriend (who hates mountains but enjoyed this) in the Brecon Beacons. I wish it was a bit closer for us, Brecon Beacons is over 4 hours away. A future trip away I guess. Got those NH150 boots I previously mentioned yesterday and so did the Mrs. Feel far more comfortable than the Karrimor boots we have. Owned by Sports Direct and are now shite

The UK has great walks wherever you are. Was in Suffolk last month - flat as a pancake but the coast is nice (if you can ignore Sizewell B).

Nice take on the traditional walking guides. May give it a gander - I love me some ancient routes/places. I have a collection of Pathfinder books which really got me into walking as they use OS map data and the walks vary from easy to challenging.

Just having breakfast before a 13 mile walk in The Peaks starting in Hartington. Never done such a long one (10/11 miles max). Part of a group who are going with Team Walking headed by Mark Reid. If anyone is interested in guided stuff plus map reading courses well worth checking out. Mainly in Yorkshire/Lakes but occasionally drops down to the Peaks. I've done the map reading intro in the Dales which was fab. Not affiliated, honest.

Well reading an OS map (contours/landmarks/borders etc), navigating and knowing how long a walk will take as well as reading the landscape in good and poor weather was useful for me initially. The other courses go into more detail. Because of the over reliance on apps which can run out of battery, poor signal or if a phone breaks map reading is pretty vital especially of you are in the middle of nowhere. I only did the intro but could do the silver/gold if I wanted. However it is the guided stuff with Mark which is what I enjoy. He is an amiable down to earth guy who has a wealth of knowledge/experience so walks with him are pretty entertaining. I may do the wild camping in to the Lakes next year. Also you meet some great people from all walks of life.

Here you go. I'm the crazy blonde guy doing a silly dance (Mark asked us all to do something energetic - I was the only one that did which made me look a right tit). :-)

That looks like a fantastic walk. Nice moves too I've been inspired to order one of the pathfinder books mentioned above for my local area, as there's loads pretty much on my doorstep that I could do with exploring.
