"We're dudes and we want games about dudes. And we want games about male transformation and identity and a man who is actually going through something, who is actually a man." Can't be real It would be pretty gay if a game had men and women in it. Why can’t things just stay the same like when a man could play FF7 and Tomb Raider and stick Aliens on without everything having to have women in it like now. I thought this lot were against exploring themes of male transformation and identity
Shame there isn't a way to watch it without adding to their views as it is actually very funny. They even list prisons and domination as things that appeal to men

I see Russell Brand has turned full on evangelical Christian now. You know he's hiding some dark shit.

Shame he didn't turn up at the riots. They could have got a twofer! 🤣

Might...but he's been this way for a long time of jumping from one thing to another. With this one it all seems so calculated. He wasn't getting spectacular views with his original milquetoast spiritual content, he hit on something when he had Jordan Petersen on his podcast then went on Joe Rogan, things grew from there when covid hit when he saw how much interaction he was getting when just asking questions about covid. Getting the nod about the sexual assault allegations just pushed him quicker to where he is now. Lets not even discuss the fact that his social media feed is purely about American politics, he doesn't live there but talks about as if he's a citizen. He's a fucking grifting cunt who's always been an addict for attention.

That's fair. I don't have the stomach for that though. It is but I do find some of this stuff interesting from a psychological point of view, seeing what makes people tick. For Brand it's more I'd seen his stuff when he was popular back in the day and I'd found him funny but his whole schtick always came across as incredibly surface level and disingenuous. For me it's interesting that subject matter is different but the package is still the same.

The generic World politics one is over 200 so is bigger than the US one as well.

Never trust anyone who goes on about American politics more than their own nation's politics. /stares at US Politics thread I don’t really get the fascination with US politics, I rank people who are overly invested in it only slightly above British NFL fans, so this last term has been a merciful relief. It’s just a shame that the election cycle is ten years long to allow maximum amounts of money to be extracted from people. I really don’t know how anyone puts up with it.

Although, in slight mitigation, it seems quite similar here. I involuntarily knew most of the cast of idiots who passed through Trumps administration in a similar way to how I knew most of the tories.
You can tell when a government is doing an OK job as they should be completely anonymous. In a just world I would not* know who Jonathan Gullis or Mike Flynn are.
*correct

Don't disagree, I kind of have to pay some attention to UK politics and have largely ignored the US for 4 years. But such is Trump's cuntiness, it just seeps through. Definitely can't get as invested as I did 2016 though

In the case if US politics, I do understand why people might want to at least keep up to date. What happens in America can have a real influence on what happens elsewhere in the world, culturally and economically, not too mention it's defence strategy.
Other countries can also influence our own politics but not always to the same scale as the US.
Personally I try to avoid politics and news, but a morbid curiosity keeps pulling me back.

For better or worse, what happens in the US can have significant consequences for the rest of us (especially in the "free world"), so I understand people getting invested in American politics to a certain extent.
Nobody outside of the UK gives a damn what happens here in terms of politics, insofar as I can tell; that said, the American press totally lost its shit when the Queen died, so they do pay attention to our poky little island now and then.

I don't even follow US politics much anymore, but for example I'm very concerned about Russia and the war. What government we have here in Germany is far less important for that than if a Putin puppet becomes US president again.

It's ok, we import most of our culture war from America anyway, so it's good to keep up with new developments from the woke mobs.

Luckily, our thread is a comprehensive, well-researched overview, so i don't need anything else.

I've watched that "Pussification of video games" vid and had to laugh that the metric of quality isn't on the gameplay but by the descriptions of the game and how manly and gritty they sound. Also laughing at the fact that the 6 games plucked at random from the woke list are some of the most targeted games from this year and his 6 random games from the early 2000's included Modern Warfare 2 and Deus Ex Human Revolution, those unknown small games. Totally comparable. Also Ride to Hell is one of the examples of a good game in his eyes because it has bikers and sex (penetration without the nudity, look up the sex scenes in the game if you don't believe me). Game is sitting at around 1-1.5 on metacritic in critic and user ratings...but it's not a pussy game I guess so it gets a pass...
Also wanting to look at buff men doing men things and have that be the only thing you want out of a game? Sounds pretty gay bro.

If that video is indeed real (as I'm still not sure it's not just a brilliant piece of satire), I'd wager they are the type who previously argued reviews shouldn't talk about anything but gameplay and that any politics should be totally disregarded.
I've read and heard a number of people over the years espouse that games (or anything) should not be read critically and that the only things that matter is the gameplay. In their view, if there's a seam of misogyny or homophobia in the game it shouldn't matter if the gameplay is good.
But somehow this view doesn't apply if there's a non-sexualised female protagonist or gay character. Then all of a sudden the politics become the overarching thing.
