The moral in the story in that one did always confuse me. It seems to be 'other people are cunts' which I can fully get behind, just strange how it is so popular / cherished etc.

The Tiger Who Came To Tea thing is interesting in that if you actually read her comments in the context of her overall view (that books with somewhat outdated viewpoints can be used to spur conversation) it’s really not that bad.

We have a Tiger Came to Tea - it's alright, but I do agree it is basically presenting a world that doesn't exist. The target age (toddlers basically) lap stuff up and might not have the capacity to understand this is not how things are.
Being a parent to a girl and getting this stuff much better, loads of old stuff has been tainted by outdated and casual sexism (not to mention toxic masculinity and imperialism for both the boy and girl).b

This phenomenon (very similar to McCarthyism in some respects) originates from the USA (and partly from the UK) but unfortunately it is also expanding in the rest of Europe. Still in Italy we have not witnessed certain follies, as with you, such as demolishing statues, forcing every screenwriter to include "strong and brave women" as protagonists, etc ... But we are almost there.
In italian language an adjective needs to be declined in two form called simply "male" and "female" (but generally it isn't about gender, apple is female, wall is male, but apple and wall have a sexual identity?).
If I watch a male I say: "tu sei molto bello" (you are very beautiful).
If I watch a goup of males I say: "voi siete molto belli"
If I watch a female I say: "tu sei molto bella" with the a in the end .
If I watch a goup of females I say: "voi siete molto belle"
If I watch a mixed goup of males and females I say: "voi siete molto belli" with the i at the ending, as for male plural.
Some frustrated people would like to introduce schwa (a fake letter).
So, in case of mixed group I should say: "voi siete molto bellə"
