I think the whole thing needs a reboot and I adore the series.
The original was an effortless classic, from new gameplay ideas to creating a sense of wonder with the incredible graphics and detail. Above all else, you felt like a space marine going to task on aliens.
Problem was/is since Bungie dissappeared, nobody seemed to have a firm grasp of what made the original great, so they clung onto that original "30 seconds of fun" so hard we're playing the same scenario's against the same enemies with incredibly similar movement and animations to the original game.
Thow in a story that dissappeared up its arse a decade or more ago and you somehow have a tentpole release about a hulking great space marine smashing aliens with all the resources and funds of mircosoft behind it.. somehow become a little forgettable and irrelevant.
Dial the graphics and realism up to 11 again, make the aliens alien.. imposing, something to fear. Give it all a new sense of weight and place.

Well I thought infinite was excellent. Obviously the campaign had been stripped back somewhat but was still amazing fun and the best mp in halo for a long time that was so much fun and I still play it regularly with the kids and bots on high difficulty which are also fun to fight. Now that forge is here as well the amount of great maps are in the dozens. If co op was there from the start it would have easily be my goty then, even without it was one of the best games of that year.

Infinite has a strong foundation with its fun campaign and fantastic core gameplay, it's a shame that the ongoing support we all expected has crumbled away Hopefully they still have enough staff left to support forge

All reports say it's just multiplayer stuff and getting Forge out of the door.

New community playlist is out - it's for 4 4v4 forge maps.
I've managed to play 4 games of Perilous, a game of Starboard (Inspired by Midship) and a game of Salvation (Damnation remake).
I'm already fond of Salvation, it rewards learning the shortcuts around the map and good grenade use to let you get the jump on an opponent, the Sniper and Skewer that spawn on the map are a bit unwieldy to use as there's very few long sight lines, but I like that. It makes a change of pace from the three-lane MLG philosophy to map making where the team that wins is the one that can win the most fights down the lanes with the default weapons.
Salvation feels good too, classic Halo map that rewards map and power weapon control.
Starboard's okay, feels like a more open Midship, great if you love BR duels.
The other map is Absolution which we've played on Halo Monday's which I rather enjoyed, it's probably good for 4v4.
4 thumbs up out of 5

I’ve just downloaded this again, having dropped it after the first few months. It’s so much fun to play and a breath of fresh air after being full-on with CoD and Battlefield for the last few months.
I’m not sure I can bothered to download the campaign though. It felt like I’d seen all it had to offer after a few hours. Does it get any better? Oh, and did they ever end up adding online coop?

Yeah they added online co-op only as they couldn't be arsed to officially implement couch coop even though it's there and it works. I don't think it gets better honestly, it's great gunplay let down by a weak ass campaign with some terrible bosses.

I recently forced myself to finish the campaign. I wouldn't really recommend it. It was ok i guess, but 3/odst/reach it ain't.
Combat was fun, story was bobbins. It got stale pretty quickly.
I did hoover up some of the ubi-itis, but certainly not all.

The new maps are fun, bandit rifle is enjoyable to use without making other weapons redundant, the shroud screen is pretty good and the new playlists have been pretty moreish.
I give this update three thumbs up

EMP grenades getting nerfed next season, Spike grenade getting a narrower cone of higher damage makes it work more like Halo 3. Disruptor losing its damage over time ability and some of its area control ability in favour of giving it more damage.
Spike grenade gains a niche use case but Disruptor loses its niche use case in favour of it being made a competitor with the standard pistol. Completely inconsistent game design, Disruptor was fine as it was.
If I was making changes to weapons I would nerf the Assault rifle and Sidearm slightly so they're not so oppressive to the rest of the sandbox. It would make games more about map control than winning 1v1 duels as soon as you spawn. It's pretty much the reason I still enjoy Halo 3 more in spite of all of Infinite's improvements.

Good week to jump back in for a few games if you'vw not played for a while
The weekly mode is the enjoyable stuff that Infinite MP does best, Combat Workshop, big team battle with lots of vehicle and heavy spawns, Everyone dying in vehicle explosion ragdoll mayhem while mostly ignoring the capture objectives.

Also, can we play a game on this map?

It's worth dipping in this week to play the featured Husky Raid maps. CTF Fiesta on corridor of death maps, utter madness.

For others who may have tried it…
We fancied going through a legendary split screen campaign again but sadly it’s been patched - I guess due to the campaign menu now getting split from the multiplayer in the last update, shame really as it was a lot of fun. Really missed looking up to my partners screen and using it as a spotting scope, the re-play campaign was still fun just not as fun, oh well, it was a nice glitch while it lasted... for the 10 people who probably used it!

I’m trying to like the Campaign but at about 5hrs in the Ubi style peppered busy work map is putting me off a fair bit. Is it advisable to ignore the clutter and mainline the story missions to avoid burnout?
Spacey Duck Hunt needs some story bru!

Do the main story and all the Spartan cores..ignore the rest if you aren't interested..I really enjoyed the main campaign and only did maybe half the side stuff.

I don't remember the iconage being that bad in Infinite. I took a break from it but that was in large part to go back and play through the other games in the series to make sense of everything
Planning to go back to it soon (probably after I've played Reach) and looking forward to it

Yeah I don't recall the open world map clutter being that bad to be honest. Just about every other open world title I've played recently is infinitely (wink wink!) worse in that regard, or better depending on your disposition I suppose.

Yeah just to add my voice to the chorus. I fired it up for the first time in forever a couple of nights ago and there's not too much. The odd patrol or other wee thing to do but not overwhelming. I was reminded how much I liked it. it has it's shortcomings but it stinks of Halo through and through, and really evokes those early ring-fall moments of the first game.

I have the urge to play through reach again after seeing that they decided to do the fall of reach in one episode of the tv show. ONE! SMH.
I think it might be by favourite halo game. That or 3 are my clear favourites.
Reach 3 CE Infinite ODST 2 4 5

Fired up the multiplayer last night and was excited to see a clutch of Halo3 maps, which I had no idea they'd added. Nice!
Still plays really well, and it's so easy to just pick up where you left off and have a decent round or 7. Unlike Battlefield, for instance, where it seems to take half a day of playing to get your eye in!

Finished the fight (campaign) this weekend, and had more fun with it in the second half compared to the first. I’m not sure if that’s because it was slower than normal to get going or because it’s been polished up a lot more since I started it in 2021 (??) Either way, I’m certainly glad I played through it, and being able to have my son coop with me certainly helped the later stage bosses. I think I might have lost a controller or 2 if we hadn’t been doing it together.
As it turned out, it was probably the most fun I’ve had coop since we played the Witch King Destiny campaign together. Good times!
