I didn't realise quite how much the posture is different on + runs until I watched your video there. I've played so little gaming lately . Need to get back on it! Will have some more me time soon now kids back tomorrow. My son is currently on BSB in Bloodborne after I beat Gascoigne for him. He was losing the will to live so I reluctantly did it for him. He's gone Kirk hammer.

BSB might go better with a serration type weapon. I think the Saw Cleaver is the best weapon in the game
You’ve got to love that hidden damage

I'd leave him with the hammer. Let him express himself, crushing things with a big slab of metal

Other way around. Spear loses serration and gains thrust. Cleaver is just serrated.

Not that I don't trust you - mainly I just wanted to find out why I thought differently - but my quick research says Spear is all serrated attacks, Cleaver only serrated in Saw form

Just watched the boy murder the demon of hatred and then Isshin. I'm pretty bloody impressed. He had a couple of days practicing on both but looks like it paid off. Isshin he killed the first time after getting to his final stage but he was nailing the lightning reversals and killed him with no healing left. Did well.

Well... Wasn't as bad as I feared. Demon of Hatred went down second go, albeit in a bit of a sloppy fashion:
Isshin took about 45 mins after that and after a good first couple of phases, everything went to shit in quite a spectacular fashion as I'm really not used to his final two phases. Talk about by the skin of my teeth:
Overall though, I'm pretty chuffed. I messed up an absolute shit load and would have had it down better with more goes but I'm happy that I bested him actually fighting him this time, instead of running around him for 25 minutes solid.
Got the ending as well due to killing Owl Father so just two more endings to go.
I may do the gauntlets but I'm more likely to just move into ng+ now.
My opinion of this game has improved quite a lot.

I've no idea how any of you can prefer ds2 over any of their other titles . Still a great game in its own right though. Well done W. finally beat the game properly. Whoop whoop. Think I'll start my BB run today but it pains me to think about turning the ps4 on. That boot up and load times

How come you got an Xbox? Availability, Doom?

How come you got an Xbox? Availability, Doom? I had a ps5 ordered but cancelled it when I realised sony wanted £70 per game and on Xbox I could have game pass for £5 per month. Loved my PS4 but I'm not happy getting ripped off so jumped over. Don't even slightly regret the decision seeing how many amazing games I've played on game pass so far and how many are due to be released over the next 12+ months. I haven't bought a game since 2077 released and the only one I thought I'd have to buy (back4blood) ended up being put on game pass.

bichii Yeah, it felt nice to play it properly this time I must admit. Just needed a change to my mindset. Much more satisfied after this playthrough. I'm not going to say I was nailing deflections and counters left right and centre but I was nailing a hell of a lot more than I did. Yeah gamepass is staggeringly good. I'm still very much a PS fanboi alas (justified so far by Demon's Souls and Returnal alone, let alone the souped up Death Stranding and being able to play an even shinier Ghost of Tsushima), but I regularly install shit on my One X as I've still got a few months left of gamepass on that.

I haven't decided either way yet. Never had an Xbox though

Last night, I managed to get to the third phase of Genichiro for the first time ever, not even got one deathblow before yet alone two... Even though I was expecting his opening thrust attack on the third phase, I missed the mikiri counter and he annihilated me instantly but, at least, I now know I can do it, thanks for the inspiration guys and gals

Thanks wunty, this thread is certainly an inspiration to persist with this, it's the first From game that I actually thought of giving up
Edit: The biggest block for me is the need to unlearn everything years of playing Dark Souls games have taught me and learning a different mindset; even the fact that blocking accelerates posture damage reversal (while blocking in DS limits stamina regeneration speed) is such a huge difference that messes muscle memory...

I'm still on Genichiro, didn't get too much time on this over the weekend. I've had him down to a sliver of Posture in the final phase about half a dozen times now but I just can't get the fucker over the line. Must be on 30 or 40 attempts now, I don't know why I'm seesawing so much. One attempt I'll get to the final phase without taking a hit. The very next attempt I won't even get the first deathblow in.
I think the common feature in my successful runs is that he does a lot of thrusts that can be Mikiri countered and ends up backed into a corner. When that doesn't happen I get reamed - so it's almost RNG for me in that my humble skills *need* him to only do thrust attacks and get backed into a corner.
I've still (mostly) enjoyed those 30-40 attempts, but if this is the shape of the game for my skill level I think I'm probably going to have to hang up my Firecrackers after this fight.

Phattso: I'm certainly no expert on him, but if you have Ichimonji available, you can get some hits across with that...

Phattso Genichiro is very much a spike in difficulty at this point in the game, but bear in mind if you tire of him, there's a lot of other parts of the game world you can explore, obtaining some beads in the process to up your posture / vitality a little more. Just if you feel you need a break.

Phattso : I'm certainly no expert on him, but if you have Ichimonji available, you can get some hits across with that... Yeah, I have that - upgraded with the additional strike at the end - and it's what I usually follow up with when he's staggered from a Mikiri Counter. Boy if you foul up the timing on Ichimonji does he make you regret it though! I think where I'm falling down is not using Ako's Sugar (or whichever one increases Posture damage dealing). I'd have been done 20 attempts ago with that, but trouble is I only have three of 'em and I'm never sure how an attempt is going to go! Actually, thinking of it, I stopped using Firecrackers a dozen attempts back. I probably need to use that some more in the final phase. Hmmm... maybe a cheeky lunchtime bash is in order.

@wuntyate : where would you suggest interested parties go instead of Genichiro? Well... You can actually go all the way to Mibu Village past the Ashina Depths, you can go through the abandoned dungeon all the way through Senpou temple, as well as clearing half of sunken valley. There's one big boss you can fight which will make a few subtle changes to the later game, if you do it pre Genichiro instead of post Genichiro. More details:
None of this is particularly easy mind you. To get to the depths you'll either have to kill a Shichimen Warrior via the hidden waterway idol after the abandoned dungeon idol (this is also the route to Senpou - the path diverges here) or, if you want to sneak past him, kill a Loneshadow sub-boss to go via a different route. You're then stopped by one of the Snake Eyes. Like I say though, plenty of bead opportunities and it gives you other stuff to do. There's sub-bosses (a snake eyes and a centipede) on the way through sunken valley (accessable over the Ashina Moat, down through the trees and past the snake shrine) as well up until the gunfort (which you'll need a post genichiro key in order to proceed past). There's also sub bosses (armourerd warrior and another centipede) in senpou, as well as a new combat art tree you can get from there. There's also the seven spears sub-boss in the reservoir (and it's from that area, via where you started the game that you can access the lone shadow and alternative way through the dungeon without having to fight the shichimen warrior, leading you to the depths and the forest then village beyond).

If you didn't find the text telling you so, you can throw his lighning back at him. Does a ton of damage
I know you can go down the path just to the left of the entrance to Ashina castle (jump from the bridge) before Genichiro. I did that first time, because going the way you're suppose to is for monkeys

I've been fortunate to only be caught in the lightning once - but yeah, I've been following the JUMP + BLOCK + LAND + ATTACK sequence just in case. I'll have another few goes at Genichiro, then go in search of more Prayer Beads as suggested. There are two ways I'm aware of that I haven't been yet for sure.

Yeah, dunno why I put land in there. I've not yet pulled one of because I'm so up in his grill he barely gets to use the lightning at all anyways.
