Ulythium Hmm, that's the thing I got wrong. See, I was unable to get past the ape for ages, so at some point I must have reached the hidden forest/mibu village before the ape, therefore before the couple as well... Thank you for clarifying and good luck beating them

I've beaten the Corrupted Monk, revisited all the Sculptor's Idols at Ashina Castle, and killed the mini-bosses that spawn there after the initial invasion...
... And now I'm getting slapped around by Emma. ('Gentle Blade' my ass.)

JonFEAll wrapped up, I'm pleased to say - the 'successful' Emma/Isshin fight was pretty sloppy on my part, but exhilarating as well, and I was glad to get it done. I'll be back for the fourth and final ending in due course; for the time being, though, I'm headed to Yharnam! Now, where'd I put that top hat...

You got this, JonFE! I dread to think how many times I tried to beat Sword Saint back when I first played the game. It's a seriously tough fight... ... But I got there eventually, and you will too (and when that happens, I'll be delighted to hear all about it!). |

I'm so cool that I now have sekiro, BB and dark souls t shirts. Yes that's right. I found a from software clothes shop in Shibuya, Tokyo and they had so many great designs. Also Bloodborne jewellery and elden ring mugs and toys. Accidentally found it when I was going to check out the Nintendo shop. torchtorch.jp/The website shows lots of different things from various games but the shop I found was purely from software products. |

Danno I am the last person to tell you how to play Sekiro, as I've been stuck in this game since release, making veeeeerrryyyyy slow progress every few months, but if you are trying to beat Genichiro, try using the Ichimonji (or Double Ichimonji) skill on him, if you have it. It could help you shave chunks of his health and posture, but it's easier said than done...

As I'm so off gaming lately maybe I should just play this again.
Pretty much the only time I game in the last three+ months is with my son. I never thought I'd see the day when I lost interest. I must have been playing for well over 30 years now.

I must have been playing for well over 30 years now. Do it. It's glorious (except I suck at it). Nostalgia gaming always sucks me back into it when my appetite drops. Usually via Streets of Rage II for some reason, but also Dark Souls. You'll never lose interest entirely, but sometimes you can't be arsed and nothing is really trying to grab you. Gaming is another lovelife hah. I've gone for a restart, which is what I do about halfway through any Soulsborne to solidify what I've learned and gee me up a bit by killing stuff in half the time it originally took. |

Be more aggressive. You can beat almost everything just by learning the parry/deflect button. The only two red dodges are either the sweep or the lunge. Genichiro is the perfect example. On my first playthrough I nearly binned the game, now he is the best battle and also one of the easier fight if you stay aggressive and get those parries right. Generally he will attack after he deflects you. So for example if you do a 3 hit combo on him his 3rd defensive move is the deflect. It's the same noise and animation as your own deflection. So just watch what he does and listen, if he does a deflect he will likely launch one of his combos.
Same for lady butterfly (which I think you've already beaten). She is way easier when you stay super aggressive and in her face. On normal mode the game has a pretty generous deflect window and once you get in the mindset that you can beat most bosses without moving much it becomes so much easier.
I'll try and re post my old boss fight against ape and I think I only moved when it did certain moves where you had to run or jump.
