In my recent Sekiro woes, my sweet and caring Father Owl drunk his last cup with some humble pie, while the lovely Demon of Hatred got served a fat slice of feta (I am Greek after all).
Does this mean my 4-year long journey could actually come to an end?

bichii2 I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you missed the feta (Greek cheese) part of my post... Demon of Hatred fell to his doom not by my sword but of his own accord

Ah yes I did my usual and didn't read the post properly. A nice attack boost for you though for the four phase end boss.

So, uh... Apparently Father Owl didn't take too kindly to patricide... Since beating him last night, DadFE has 1) spent half the night vomiting on and off for some reason (even after emptying out his stomach) 2) cut his hand trying to peel an orange after lunch and 3) managed to somehow make the LB button on our (Elite!) controller unresponsive, so he's currently deflect-less (at least until he remaps deflect and retrains his muscle memory on a different button...or we figure out wtf happened)... Talk about a sore loser, aye? Edit: well the LB part we fixed at least. Turns out you had to blow on it as if it were an old Nintendo cartridge

Does anyone know a good spot in which to farm XP? (I'm thinking of the three cannon bros near the Poison Pool idol, but I'm open to suggestions.)

The village place full of those things that are easy to kill. Depends where in the game you are obviously. There are a few enemies late on that are good.

Fighting the purple Interior Ministry Ninjas in Ashina Castle (in the main tower) was a good spot for me.

Thanks, both.
I'm at Senpou Temple at the moment, although I seem to have done things in a weird order this time around.
Because I'm going for the Shura ending, some of the late-game areas for XP farming aren't on the table.

My best option so far seems to involve repeatedly killing the cannon guy who's located just above the Poison Pool idol - you get something like 1263 XP each time, and it's quicker to keep resetting him than to zip around the area to get his two friends.
The ninja guys at Senpou Temple are worth 1300-something apiece, but they're a pain in the ass to kill.

Ulythium It depends on where you are in the story. A great very late game farm spot I'm currently using (even though I don't get as much xp as he does) is this one:
while a couple of earlier farms spots can be found in this video:
EDIT: Just read that you're going for Shura, so my first suggestion is off the table, sorry. Perhaps this one could do:

JonFEThanks, dude! Much appreciated. I've just defeated the Folding Screen Monkeys, so I'm not quite at the stage shown in your final video, but I'll certainly bear it in mind for when I am (although I'm not as good at the game as that person is!). Grinding nine skill points' worth of XP in order to unlock the last ability I need isn't ideal, but needs must and all that jazz.

Ulythium I hear ya! Between preparing and eventually beating Father Owl and during my -so far fruitless- attempts on Isshin Sword Saint, I've farmed those poor bastards in that first video so hard, that all that's left on the table is a mere 10 skill points and I'm on my first playthrough!!!

I managed to grind out four skills points within the space of 50 minutes last night. This evening, I'm going to put a rugby match on the iPad, mute the in-game sound, and try to finish the job. JonFE Kudos on beating Owl during his prime! That guy doesn't mess around. How far have you got with Isshin?

It's been ages since I played Sekiro, what is the XP for, as I'm pretty sure you don't level? Just buying new moves? I didn't think any of that stuff was really necessary, certainly not worth grinding just to finish the game (not needed) and your progress carries over to plus games anyway so you can just carry on that way if it's for the sake of completion

XP is used to acquire new skills, and acquiring all skills is necessary in order to get the platinum trophy.
Unless I'm much mistaken, each new skill point requires more XP than the one before it, and it takes forever to earn points while playing the game normally on NG+2; then there's the risk of losing half your progress towards your next skill point each time you die, which is a 70% probability (unless one or more NPCs has Dragonrot, in which case your chances of getting Unseen Aid are lower still).
Hence the grind - I don't think it's realistically avoidable, although I'm happy to be told otherwise!

Ulythium I easily beat Genichiro phase, most times without even using healing items, and I can patiently get Isshin first deathblow. After than that, I struggle at his next phase (he is so unpredictable for me) and I only got once on his last phase but the old fucker didn't give me any lighting to reverse (not that I had a chance, having no healing items at the time). I am trying to lock down beating Isshin first phase without using any karma spirits (by using deflects/Double Ichi/High Monk) and have them available for phases 2 and 3 to use on the umbrella prosthetic (which according to some YT guides can be very helpful there), but Mortal Draw seems so far my only reliable attack to drain his health/posture... maybe I should stick to it until the end...
EDIT1: Yes, necessary XP for each skill point is increased as you level up; I think I currently need 80K+ for my next skill point and the requirements get pretty crazy after that...
EDIT2: You may also exchange 5 skill points for +1 attack power, once you have completed the dragon mask (got to admit I grinded for that also)...

I never collect trophies/achievements but the platinum for Sekiro is the only one I've ever gotten. I played the game three times in quick succession as I was enjoying it so much and felt completely 'in the zone'. I honestly don't think I've ever felt as badass in a game as I did in my third playthrough of Sekiro where my sword was cutting through enemies like soft butter whilst I barely received a scratch. At the end of the third playthrough (after seeing all endings) I was only a couple of trophies away from the Platinum so I thought "why not?". Ulythium Even after three playthroughs I had to do some grinding to get the necessary xp for the skills I'd not unlocked. I didn't mind as I was happy to keep playing it. Never picked it up again after getting the platinum though. Hmmm...

Think I tried to play it again since but the stealth was a bit tedious when you just want to get to the action and resulted in deaths due to impatience
A recent few playthroughs of DMC5 did make me wonder if another Sekiro playthrough might be an idea though

JonFE It sounds as though you're making good progress, mate. Keep at it! Isshin's second phase is the hardest part of the entire fight for me - the spear/pistol combination is a real pain in the ass, and I always seem to misread his spear sweep for some reason. (Nothing like dashing into it, attempting a Mikiri Counter, and eating a load of damage.) You've probably seen it already, but this is the video that helped me to beat Glock Saint first time around:
Do let me know how you're getting on.
rhaegyr I'm by no means a 'trophy hunter' - according to the PlayStation App, my trophy collection progress ranges from 7% (The Last of Us) to 78% (Ghost of Tsushima) - but, like you, I feel differently about Sekiro.
It's my favourite game ever, and I'd like it to be my first (and almost certainly last!) platinum.

Ulythium Thanks! FightinCowboy is my go-to source for SoulsBorne games anyway, I've studied all of his Sekiro git-gud guides - not that I'm capable of following them, mind you. The difficult part though, is that many guides are 3-4 years old and most bosses have been beefed-up or many player strategies have been nerfed in patches, so won't work as demonstrated anymore. But, fret not, Isshin will go down eventually, I didn't give up on Genichiro after all these years, I won't give up on Isshin now...

Good man!
A close friend of mine got up to Isshin a year or so ago and gave up after trying over a few days.
We've never let him live it down.

Grinding done; skill points earned; trophy acquired. Phew!
My "sense of pride and accomplishment" (© Electronic Arts, 2017. All rights reserved) has been adversely affected by the realisation that I now have to fight Mr. and Mrs. Headless Ape, an encounter I've always found to be really bloody annoying.
Oh, well! Onwards and upwards.

JonFEYes and no - they *are* optional if you reach the Hidden Forest before beating the Guardian Ape in the Sunken Valley, as you can then bypass this boss arena via fast travel. If you're an idiot like me, and forgot that interesting tidbit until it was too late, you'll have to beat them in order to access the Hidden Forest (and therefore Mibu Village).
