The only mini-boss I'm conscious of missing was back in Hirata - the Ninja fellow guarding something in a temple. But good call - I wanna get 'em all anyways, jsut don't wanna spoil the game at the same time. Not that I think it'll help. I've more health now than when I killed Genichiro, so I think this one's down to ability rather than gear or stats. I'll dedicate and evening to it and see how it goes sometime this coming week. I'm actually quite looking forward to it, which is a definite change from the earl portion of the game. Don't worry the Ninja chap isn't a miniboss.

Since getting the underwater breathing I've gone back through pretty much the whole game looking for places to swim, and grinded plenty of cash. Also blasted past Great Shinobi Owl, and then straight through Fountainhead Palace. Back to Ashina, found some more mini bosses including a Seven Spears Samurai with a spear. I was stuck on this guy for ages earlier in the game, but now I've got the hang of blocking/deflecting he seemed dead easy. I've now hit the Demon of Hatred who seems pretty tough - he's on fire, I'm on fire, everything's on fire.

Wow - a little glimpse of the horror hopefully ahead for me. Guardian Ape first phase in the locker now. It turns out that Mortal Draw was the fit for my play style. Wait for an opportunity, and use that to whittle down the health. It takes a big lump off while I still have Spirit Emblems, but thankfully still a useful amount after they've run out. Phase two is... interesting! Feels doable - just need to understand when he's lunging and when he's swinging so I can get my deflect on. Oh, and not to mis the parry on that biiiiiig overhead swing he does as that way insta-death lies for me.

Nice one Phattso, good progress! Now get your parry on in that second phase and you've got his number so it's: GOODBYE, CHEEKY MONKEY!

Also, the grabbing spear prosthetic can be super helpful to pull the worm out for some pummeling in Phase 2.

If you have the purple gourd, remember to chug that every now and then to resist the terror attack in case you can't get out of the way.
If you don't have it it's sold by the mibu village merchant
You can fight this phase way more head on like you would another, so put those deflect skillz to the test.

You can do it Phattso. I never thought I'd be able to get a handle on his phase 2 but once it clicks it's so easy. You'll get it.

Thanks, folks. Oddly Phase 2 seems more doable than the first which I can’t bloody get out of again. It’s Genichiro all over again, but this hairy dirtbag is definitely getting his, mark my words.

Just stand still on phase two for the most part. Be ready to run on the scream, jump on the lunge and dodge forward once on his jump roll at the last second as in the video. With using mortal draw as well his health with drop quicker than with the whirlwind slash! You can do it.

The Ape is definitely tricky - a lot of his attacks have a really long windup before you actually need to deflect which takes a little getting used to. Also be ready to run as soon as he picks his head up to avoid the terror.
I got two of the three deathblow markers off Demon of Hatred this morning, then got trapped in a small fire enclosed area he created and stomped all over. Getting closer!

I managed to rattle through many hundreds of Spirit Emblems in my various Ape Phase 1 attempts, so I've had to go grinding to restock. In doing so I beat O'rin of the Water and made my way to the Corrupted Monk, who doesn't seem so complicated after all the other so far. Baby steps anyways, and I'll go back to the Ape once I've restocked.

Started this yesterday evening. Been putting it off for a while as I was a little bit burntout out on souls after DS3 and whilst i completed Demon souls remake it didn’t tick all my boxes. But enjoyed the little I have played. Literally only got my arm and messed around a little with the trainer dude. Have To say after playing DS remake it does have a ps2 charm to it. One of those games where you realise how much graphics have improved with the new systems. Still looks nice though.
Seems different enough from souls/borne that I think I’m going to enjoy it (I loved souls and BB, just that I feel I had my share from the formula) . It’s extremely satisfying parrying and fucking people up in this. The sounds of the swords clashing! . It’s made meI smile like a lunatic. I made need help.

Well, calling is a PS2 game is a bit harsh but for sure From aren't noted for particularly pushing the boat out on tech. All their PS4 era stuff looked to me like PS3 era stuff in higher res with some extra bling in places. Anyways, what the hell am I missing with Corrupted Monk? I'm gonna start using spoiler tags seeing as Ook! has just started the game. It had one vitality bar, and didn't do a "SURPRISE! I ACTUALLY HAVE TEN!" like other bosses have. I genuinely though it was another mini-boss, as O'ren was about 20 times harder. Down on the third attempt.
So I'm kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop... did I miss something?

Any luck with the ape yet Phattso? Nope, still stalled - but mainly because all of my strategies rely on Spirit Emblems and they now cost THIRTY SEN EACH!!!!! I'm basically a Sen farmer at this point. However, with the new skill I got from Corrupted Monk I'm going back and exploring lots of previously inaccessible places in the world. I've done three mini-bosses and a (very easy) main boss since Ape though, so forward progress is at least happening.

Demon of Hatred down! I found that fight very nerve wracking and different to most of the other bosses - hes more like a Bloodborne boss. Onto Genichiro Way of Tomoe - he's dead easy, and now Isshin Sword Saint who is not easy

Demon of Hatred I actually didn't have too much trouble with. He wasn't a walk in the park by any means, but as you say he was more of a Bloodborne style boss and the tactics to fight him were a little different.

Demon of Hatred did seem a bit out of place. I don't think I'd want to do that again. By far the hardest thing in the game
Isshin's first phase was a bit tricky to start with but found the second and (especially) the third much easier

Nah, Bloodborne doesn't suck. What was it specifically that you didn't like about DoH Duff? Other than just hating him, which perhaps explains his name 😀 It's interesting to read Aunt Alison's post above finding DoH to be the most difficult boss, where for me Isshin rogered me seven ways of Sunday and then some. In the early game when I first played it was Seven Spears, absolute git that one.

I don't think you can parry DoH, or at least I didn't feel confident doing so (can't remember much other than it being a pain) and it definitely felt more akin to a BB boss due to how mobile he is. The thing that made it hard for me was dodging those massive fire balls - took me a while to get it down I found Isshin's first phase quite easy to control in the end, you can almost lock him into a cycle of attacks. Second phase is mostly big sweeping attacks which aren't bad and the last phase is just lobbing the lightning back at him

I can now do it with relative ease but final boss isshin is the hardest from software boss for me. I've no idea how many attempts I've gone through before getting to this point where I can win pretty easy.
I'm trying to think through the various games now and there are many bastard bosses like nameless king and the o&s or the ds1 last boss before you realise he was easy when you discovered you can kill him with ease by just pressing parry.

Darkeater Midir took me so long. One of those that felt completely unfair and impossible until he wasn't.

Sulyvahn is hard until you realise you stick so close to him that 90% of his attacks go over your head. I'll never be comfortable fighting Midir. Killed him twice and won't ever fight him again.
